  1. I'd rather have Todd Collins back!
  2. I really do not think that the Bills are that devoid of talent, but what I can't understand is why they get hurt so much more than other teams. I think the defense is undersized, but there are quality players if they weren't hurt. The offense definitely have quality players. I think Evans would be a perenial all-star if he played for the Colts. I wonder how Trent would have done compared to Cassel if he played for New England.
  3. It seems to me that Dick Jauron's biggest issue as a coach has been that fact that he gets too conservative and the team goes into a shell during games. Just like Caughlin in NY, I think that the being on the hot seat has made him get out of his comfort zone. Hiring AVP as offensive coordinator has helped a lot. Hiring TO. Did you see him get emotional about 4th and short? They went for it on fourth down. Using the no-huddle will help them in two minute drills. The Bills look a lot better this year. Dick Jauron has always been good at getting his players to play at a high level. I definitely agree with Wilson that one of the biggest problems for the Bills has been a lack of talent. The whole thread about the early 90s teams versus the current team demonstrates that.
  4. I've taken another look at this year's schedule, and it doesn't seem that bad. KC, CLE, Tampa, Jax, Carolina all look bad. If the Bills can win some division games they should be able to have a better record than last year.
  5. 1st: Why is property tax relief something they spend money on? Why don't they not take it to begin with, unless they want to politize the process. 2nd: The core problem with government spending that creates a drag (as opposed to multiplier effect) is that the government does not run as efficiently as private companies. For example, I know this guy who is a lawyer working for the government in lower Manhatten. He plays softball four times a week. When he has a game, he gets to work at 9am and leaves work at 4pm. Normally, he gets to work at 10am and leaves at 5pm. He also likes to watch baseball on the internet when he is at work. The unions in this state, especially in New York are very powerful, which is why there have been absolutely no layoffs for government jobs even though a lot of my friends have lost their jobs. The Unions are the only entities that have not been affected by campaign finance reform, and we all get to pay for it. As far as health care, in my home town of Rochester, Strong Hospital bought Highland Hospital only to shut it down so they could charge more for the only existing Hospital. Gee, I wonder where the money is going. Lastly, I know this from my Mom, a retired teacher. The government provides great retirement benefits, which creates an incentive to keep the same people in office. How is possible that 95% of the Long Island Railroad workers, office workers at that, retire with disability benefits? Who are these people in the 5%? P.S. I'm glad the Bills kept Dick Jurion for at least one more year because it will help with Trent Edwards development. Alex Smith had 5 different OC in the last five years, and his career has been ruined by it.
  6. TE Travis McCall is 260 to 270 lb blocking tight end that will most likely be converted to FB per SI.
  7. Just like Whitner was such a great prospect for the Bills. The Bills need to trade down, get an additional pick in the second round, pick up more players. Having more draft choices and not reaching for players reduces the bust factor.
  8. What I don't understand is that Gross got paid $60 mil over 6 years, so Peters wants at least $61 mil over 6 years. Didn't they sign Dockery to a deal like that? Peters is a better player and has played better, so what's the issue with giving him the money. I understand why they didn't want to give him a new deal last year since he had just signed his original contract, and just like negotiating with terrorists, NFL teams do not like to negotiate with players with three years left on a contract. Wilson has spread money around before, and they are getting more money by playing games in Toronto. What's the point of playing in Toronto is the they aren't willing to keep their best players and at least pretend that they want to have a competitive team?
  9. What about trading him to Detroit? They need a left tackle, and he is a sure thing. The salaries are close.
  10. One of the problems with Eric Flowers is that he kept changing his weight. I think part of the issue was development by the Bills. I also think it was a bit of a slap in the face by Butler. Plus, Eric was expected to go in the third, and he dramatically rose up in the draft broads because he put on weight.
  11. There are three questions with regard to Babin: Over the course of the season, will he provide 5 sacks as a backup pass rush specialist, who will put pressure on Tom Brady so the Bills can go somewhere in this division? Is Babin willing to accept the money for that role? Are the Bills willing pay the going price for that role?
  12. I guess if the Bills had cut Kelsy instead of Royal and Dockery it would have been better. The Bills had no control over Lynch being an idiot. Seriously, I was in college, and I did some stupid things, but that was brilliantly stupid.
  13. How about the money Bloomberg was going to spend to build the Jets a stadium in Manhatten?
  14. vote republican, it will shake things up in Buffalo and in Albany
  15. It was one of the most depressing times to be a Bills fan. I was living in Miami that year, and McKinnie hadn't given up a sack in either High School or at the University of Miami. All I could think about was "Well, if the Bills suck hopefully they will have a chance at this guy." It was so weird because Done-a-ho was saying that McKinnie had an attitude problem because he was too arrogant. I know that he hasn't been Jonathan Ogdan, but he is definitely a starting left tackle in this league. I will never complain about Whitner since he is a starter in the league, and he is no Williams nor Flowers.
  16. Coles has been a very good wide receiver for the Jets and Redskins. This would be an excellent signing because he is a #1 receiver. Plus, it would mean that the Dolphins won't get him. The only risk is injury, but you have that with any player.
  17. Fire everybody, that's the answer. We start over. Cut all the players. Draft another quarterback or better yet trade away two first round draft picks. Blame the owner for not signing players like Dallas or Washington. How many Super Bowls did Cowher win in his many years in Pittsburg? How many Super Bowls has Jeff Fisher won? DJ does not get upset or emotion so the Bills should see if Jerry Glanvine is available. I agree with Ralph, this constant tearing down and rebuilding has hurt the quality of players on the Bills roster, and the Bills are not talented enough. DJ is not the general manager, and I do think that it has been good for the Bills to move away from the dictatorial style of Donahue. If the Bills can continue to add talent instead of losing talent or just replacing talent, the team will be in a lot better shape. As fans, I think we should be worried more about getting better players in, instead of complaining about some of the decisions that DJ has made in the games, which sounds a lot like second guessing. He's an idiot for letting Losman try to make a play, and he's an idiot for being too conservative in his play calling.
  18. I'm optimistic because I remember when the Tenessee Titans kept having 8-8 seasons before the beating the Bills in the playoffs. It took a while for them to develop a core set of players. They have been a much better team since then. Honestly, it all depends on Trent since Pittsburg struggled a lot before getting a franchise quarterback. The Bills are still hurting from the Donehue years, but they have been drafting better players. No more Eric Flowers.
  19. The Bills focus should be the following: 1st Veteran Quarterback through free-agency. Someone who won't lose games. 2nd Defensive End - first draft pick, maybe both first and second to create competition and ensure that at least one won't be a bust. 3rd Center through 2nd round pick or free agency 4th Legitimate FB through mid-round draft pick - big body who can block 5th Veteran wide receiver through free-agency. Someone on the downside of their career but is a known commodity like Marvin Harrison or like James Lofton. 6th Tight End through either the 2nd round draft pick if a center isn't available or a late round draft pick, who is strickly a pass-catching tight end like Jay Riemersma. 7th Playmaking outside linebacker - if a DE not available, the Bills could get a playmaking linebacker who can rush the quarterback with the first pick. Personally, I Crowell will be back. They could also get one through FA, but this is more of nice to have instead of must have, unless they can't get DEs. 8th Playmaking Strong Safety - draft round three or four. Someone good against the run and can hit, or a quality free safety. 9th Run stuffing Defensive Tackle - fifth draft pick. Basically, a player without pass rush ability, but is a wide body for running downs or the goal line.
  20. It was a frustrating year, but I remember the Titans being in the same situation. I clearly remember a failed field goal attempt because time ran out on Jeff Fisher. If the Bills keep blowing up the roster, they will continue to have horrible teams. We will wait another three years to fire the head coach after missing he playoffs for three years. Trent Edwards needs time to develop just like Eli Manning. I really believe he is going to be a good quarterback. I hope the Bills continue get good players, and hopefully, they will get a decent backup quarterback. How many games did JP lose. Frankly, everybody says it was a bad decision to let JP throw the ball vs. the Jets, but I feel that was all on JP. He looked like Rob Johnson in that game. They need more weapons on offense and more playmakers on defense.
  21. The Bills definitely have more talent then they did a couple of years ago. However, I have to agree with Wilson that they aren't that talented yet. The first priority this off-season has got to be to get a decent backup quarterback. I don't think JP is going to take another snap. They also have to get pressure on the quarterback. The offensive line is definitely better. They could probably use a better center, but if Lynch had run like he did against the Jets, the Bills would have won more games. Also, JP held onto the Ball way too long. It was really frustrating to watch. He's been playing too long. A tight end would be nice, but I think they still need a better option as a second wide receiver. After getting a decent backup quarterback, the Bills need to get a more talented defensive end. Lastly, the Bills are going in the right direction. I just feel that the rest of the division suddenly has gotten a lot tougher, mostly through free-agency. Tom Donahue set this team back a lot.
  22. Having lived in Miami during the Fiedler reign, I would have to say that JP Losman, as of right now, reminds me of Fiedler than Edwards. Edwards was a rookie, who made rookie mistakes. Fiedler was acquired from another team where he was a backup quarterback. He continued to look like a backup as a starter, and the offense was frustrating to watch. Honestly, I hope JP finds a way to get over the hump and live up to his first round draft status.
  23. 8.7% of the populationg are worth 1 million or more. On the one hand, it annoys me that someone who has basically won the lottery can keep their money and advantage, while I have to pay so much money out of my paycheck. I worked for a guy like that who said we need to educate the children of the rich more since they will take over everything. On the other hand, my dad owns a small manufacturing plant in Rochester, 40 employees. His retirement and his house are tied up in the business, and when I was going to college we couldn't get a student loan because he was considered wealthy even though the business almost went bankrupt. Certainly, there is no way that I could take over the business if he passed away because I would have to come up with an large amount of cash based on what a government beauracrat desides, which I guess is all right since New York hates manufacturing. The government definitely wastes too much money. Tax receipts have gone up incredibly, but government spending has gone up even more. As far as government waste, in my home town I could do without, the fast farry, the opera house on top of a bus station, and in NYC, most of Mayor Bloomberg's ideas are ways to increase taxes, such as his congession pricing scheme. I guess, I would also like to see less subsidies to farmers since the price of food has skyrocketed. Oh, ethonal was also a terrible idea, did anyone notice that oil has gone from $60 per barrel to $145 since the fall of 2006? I wonder what changed, anyway, I'm buying gold. I just hope that Tom G. buys the Bills. Go Paychex!!!!!
  24. It's also that our draft picks for offensive lineman haven't panned out. I think it was perfectly fine for them to sign free agents on the offensive line since it takes time for offensive lineman to develop, a lot more than any position than quarterback. The only reason that Chambers was the backup LT was because Whittle was injured. Also, who on this board really considered offensive lineman a high priority in this draft. It was weak for centers. I think they should have drafted Steve Justice in the sixth. There are only so many holes that can be filled in the draft, and most players in the sixth round don't become contributors so I doubt it will make much of a difference anyway.
  25. As far as Juron goes, I think it is difficult to judge him based on his time in Chicago. The Buffalo Bills have much better talent evaluators than Chicago. They had bust after bust and very little talent. I think the Bills got off track under Donohoe. The level of talent significantly dropped because he decided that building for the future was a waste of time so he stocked the team with aging veterans. The Bills are currently doing the opposite which takes time. It is also one of the reasons the Bills have one of the youngest teams in the league. I think that this year will be important, and I know the offense has been overly predictable, but Fairchild, I am sure, was asked to leave. There is no possible way that the team can play any more conservative. Certainly, if he can't get them to the playoffs, he will suck; however, this is his third year, which is a very important year because everybody should be on the same page. As far as defensive backs, I think there are two issues. One, they have decided to build up the backfield in the draft. In some weird way, it makes sense. If all the other teams are drafting defensive tackles and other positions, it would make sense to go in another direction since, the team is not forced to reach for a player by following the crowd. Two, I think it is just how this draft worked out. They would have been idiots to pick Harding at 11 when they got him in the second round. Plus, there weren't any defensive lineman worth the 11th pick either.
