Here is one scenario: I think the Bills could trade with the Giants for 15th so the Giants could draft Rolando McClain. The Giants released Antonio Pierce, and they desperately need a middle linebacker. It is a weak draft at middle linebacker.

Bears DE Alex Brown Released
robertpaul49 replied to BillsInMaine's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He doesn't fit our system. Plus, we have more pressing needs to get veteran players along the offensive line. Orlando Pace!!!! -
I just worry that the Bills are going to focus too much on need instead of getting the best player available. I think that if the Bills get too desperate they will make mistakes like John McCargo and JP Losman as opposed to Jarius Byrd.

Some stuff from Rotoworld about the Bills
robertpaul49 replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybin was projected to be an outside linebacker. It is definitely too early to give up on him. Maybe it is just the slant of the reporting, but I really like his attitude, which seems to be a lot different than Mike Williams attitude was. I would rather have someone like Kyle Williams and Donte Whitner, who may not be superstar talents but who are good players that work hard and show up, unlike Marshawn Lynch and Mike Williams. -

It also seems that the Bills had to weight room plans for the players, so it was probably up to Maybin to figure out his own workout. I think the Bills will be better if only because their conditioning will be better. Maybin was a development player, only one year starting in college, underweight, etc. Hopefully, he has the work ethic to be successful. I like Keith Ellison, but he is probably best suited as a third down, cover linebacker. Without some more big bodies, it won't matter who they draft at quarterback. -
The Bills won't be able to trade him. I guess he will ride the bench.

It would be a disaster to draft a running back in the first round, an absolute disaster!!!!! The Bills will need a three year plan to account for the amount of time it will take to develop young players. Year 1: Draft offensive linemen. They take a long time to develop, and having a good line will help with other positions. They probably should draft a run stuffing defensive lineman, the priority of these between o-line and d-line will determine whether it will be an offensive or defensive team. Year 2: Draft the quarterback. Hopefully, it will be a good year for quarterbacks, and only draft a quarterback high in the first round, trade up if the team has to. Second and third rounds, draft linebackers and wide receivers. These players will also take time to develop. The team will have to draft at least three wide receivers because the team needs multiple receivers, it will create competition, and it will reduce the chance any single one will be a bust. Year 3: Draft another quarterback if there is any question about the first quarterback, rinse and repeat. They can always trade away the loser of the quarterback competition. Otherwise, draft a running back. The team should draft linebackers, tight ends, defensive line or wide receiver for the next picks depending on who is available. This is based on the fact that the Bills do not need to upgrade their secondary and depth players are chosen in the lower rounds.

The biggest question is what can be done to turn Buffalo's economy around so that more luxury seats can be sold so there will be no monetary reason to move the team!
-
I think that the only quarterback the Bills should be considering is Clausen. I think it is much more important that the Bills upgrade both their offensive and defensive lines. As far as which direction they go, it will depend on who is available. I would rather that they draft Dan Williams than reach for an offensive tackle, like Bruce Campbell. First, the Dolphins are likely to draft Dan Williams, so I like that poke in the eye. Second, the Bills can't afford another Mike Williams. Jared Veldheer or Charles Brown would seem to be nice picks. I will be upset if the Bills only draft one offensive tackle. They need a lot better depth along the offensive line.

First and really most importantly, the Bills will have a storied tradition once they begin winning. It really doesn't help the Buffalo is a small market team with three larger market teams. The most important thing for the Bills will be to win a Super Bowl. Had the Bills won one Super Bowl, they would have a much better tradition. If they can get back to winning the Bills will be considered along the same lines as the Vikings. Currently, the problem is no winning, no star quarterback, no star players. Second, the biggest issue with global warming is the fact that the scientists has excluded data to make it seem that the Earth is warmer today than it ever has been, specifically the middle ages. The underlying findings have been changed for political purposes. Could be happening, might not be, probably won't matter when humans no longer exist on the planet. Personally, I think the issue of running out of oil would be a bigger problem. Third, the truth about the tea party movement is this: There is a direct correlation between the amount of money a country saves and the long term prosperity of that country, the same is true for an individual. The more money spent now to buy stuff the worse off we will be in the future. The country cannot spend its way out of its credit card debt to China. Fourth, New York City has some of the worst schools in the country. Half the kids don't graduate from High School. Pound for pound New York has as many idiots as the South or anywhere else for that matter. D@mn I wish the Norwood could have made that field goal.

I'm thinking the Bills are going to go with Taylor Mays in the first round and Patrick Robinson in the second.

If Clausen is available, they should draft him. If he is not available, they should trade down to pick up more draft choices since they have so many holes. I would really hate for the Bills to draft for need instead of best player available who fits their scheme. They've done it too many times and gotten burned, e.g. Losman, Maybin, etc. Last year, their best choice was Byrd. Personally, I will be happier if they draft someone we do not expect based on position. Free agency is the place to fill needs not the draft!!!

Latest ProFootballWeekly.com Mock Draft
robertpaul49 replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First off, Lynch was an awful pick. As a fan, I kept hearing that the team was going to put more emphasis on character. Levy was all about character, and what do they do? They draft a player with character problems. If they trade away Lynch for a third round draft choice, then they have traded the 11th pick in the draft for a third round choice, brilliant. Second, it is stupid to consider a running back at this stage. The Bills need to rebuild. The way to go about rebuilding is to draft the players who will take time to develop early then fill in players who will not take as much time to develop, such a running back. This is especially true for running backs because they have short careers. For example. the Colts drafted offensive tackles in round one and two. The next year, they drafted Payton Manning. Finally, they drafted Elderin James. Third, the only draft pick I would be more upset about is if they drafted Taylor Mays. I would even prefer that they draft Derrick Morgan; however, my preference is that they trade down because they have so many needs to fill. -
TRADE DOWN,TRADE DOWN,TRADE DOWN
robertpaul49 replied to Since 1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember Jimmy Johnson trading down when he wanted to turn around the Dolphins. I think it makes sense especially if there are a lot of holes to fill. A certain number of players are going to go bust so extra picks help. However, I feel that the team should be stock piling second round picks. The Bills need more young talent to fill a lot of holes, QB, OT, OT, WR, NT, OLB, ILB. I really do not want to see them reach for a quarterback like they did with JP Losman. You can say what you like about Trent Edwards, but the Bills did not give a second and a first to draft him. The same could be said for Rob Johnson. -
Without a doubt, the Bills should draft Clausen if he's available. Even if Clausen is a bust, it is better that they draft him and draft another quarterback again next year, just like San Diego. The Bills need to keep drafting the highest rated quarterbacks that they can until they can find a franchise quarterback. (I'm not talking about reaching for a quarterback to just fill a hole, aka JP Losman). No other hole on the team matches this hole. If no quarterback is available then draft a tackle to protect the quarterback that the Bills should draft next year.
-
I think he is absolutely correct, which was another reason that Whitner was a poor choice at the place they picked him. If the team does not have a quarterback, they need to get one. Quarterback is the most important position. I don't think Clausen will be available when the Bills pick. I hope the Bills trade down because they have too many holes.
-
I just want to throw a wrench in everyone's thinking, but I think the Bills are going to draft Derrick Morgan out of Georgia Tech. There are assistants coming to this staff from Georgia Tech, and with Maybin being a bust and Schobel being on the down side of his career. This would make sense. Linebackers can be found lower, and the best LT will be taken as will be the best quarterbacks. As far as the Colts, I was always impressed the way they built their team. First, they draft a left tackle in the first round then a right tackle in the second round. The next year they drafted Manning. In the third year, they drafted Elderin James. The Bills have got to get a multi-year plan instead of just reacting every year.

Who is Rivera or Grimm going to hire? Not to mention, I don't remember Ruben Brown turning into Jason Glazier.
-
I remember the number of injuries increasing when Wade Philips left and especially when Rusty Jones left. The Bills seemed to always be injured. I also have a vague memory of someone telling me that all strength and conditioning coaches are created equal. On the other hand, I think the whole undersided defense is also part of the problem. Buddy Nix is right on that.

Check out Maybin in this picture from the Buffalo News

Kyle Williams looks like he belongs in Buffalo. He reminds me a lot of people I've met in bars at 4 o'clock in the morning. -
Tebow looks like a NFL QB tonight

Which is why the Bills need Cody more than they need Tebow! -
Has anything really changed at OBD?

I think something must have changed; however, we will not know until they bring in coaches. That is going to be the real indicator. -
Tebow looks like a NFL QB tonight
robertpaul49 replied to Chuckknox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First, I think that people dislike him because he is religous, and they have preconceived notions about him. I would bet those same people would be very happy with Michael Vick. Second, his game reminds me of Donvan McNabb. Of course McNabb had big question marks coming out of college especially losing a game by letting the time expire. Tebow can run and throw. Sure, the ball drops low for his windup, but honestly, that reminded me of Fluties big windup. He made all the throws. The one long play to Cooper was right on the money. The pass looked like Kelly. The other touchdown throwing to the corner while running away from pressure was great. I really think that he could be like Drew Breez who went in the beginning of the second round. He seems mature like Manning. In the Alabama game, I thought they should have let him throw more. Other thoughts on the game, please let the bills use a low round draft pick on Cooper. He looks great. Hernandez looked amazing, like Tony Gonalez. I would be happier if the Bills draft Brandon Spikes than Tebow. He was all over the place. He is a real playmaker. I would be very happy if the Bills could draft the Florida team. There is a lot of talent on the team. Time will tell with regards to Tim Tebow; however, I think the Bills should do what San Diego did, which is keep drafting quarterbacks until you have a franchise quarterback. I also think that with all the holes the Bills have, they should trade down to get additional picks because they seem to draft better lower in the draft than higher in the draft. -
Are the Bills actually playing to lose?
robertpaul49 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills needs star players so what's the point of playing people if they are hurt. I'm sure if they were in the playoff hunt there would be fewer people on injured reserve. However, if there were fewer people on the injured reserve, they would probably be in the playoff hunt. Outside of a new coach, the Bills have to find a way to stay healthy. I would say it is luck, except they have more significantly more injuries than other teams every year. Where are you Rusty Jones? p.s. I think someone once posted that all training staffs are created equal and losing Rusty Jones is not a big deal. -
Schobel contemplating retirement
robertpaul49 replied to Delete This Account's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it is ridiculous that people would be happy that one of the best defensive players this team has retires and leaves a giant hole. As far as Schobel getting more sacks against weaker opponents, Bruce Smith got the majority of his sacks against weaker opponents so he must have been lousy too. Bruce Smith hardly showed up against the Cowboys so the Bills were better off without him. I remember at the end of the Wade Phillips era where people were talking about how it would be better if the team were gutted. Well, how'd that work out. If the Bills get rid of all their best players, the team will be rebuilding again. Yeah Hoo!! The Bills need to figure out who they can get instead of who they can fire. For example, Jim Leonhard has turned out really well. I would bet any amount of money that Schobel would be even more highly regarded if he played for New England. Most over-rated player, give me a break. Outside of Buffalo nobody knows who he is. $6.5 million a year is a bargain.
