Harbaugh would be able to choose between several NFL organizations... and like any other top-notch candidate, he would most likely steer clear of a proven loser like Russ Brandon. Now, if Brandon is completely out of the picture, say back in marketing... maybe.

Depends on just how bad he would look, but if he is brutal, I would pull him as early as after the 3rd game (reference: JP after the 2007 Steelers game).

Agreed. That season was a perfect storm for Tebow. Orton is far from elite, but he has always been serviceable IMO.

Best: 10-6 WC (EJ progresses OR Orton performs just good enough after a quick hook, Marrone & Whaley stay, Brandon leaves for a league office job ) Worst: 3-13 (EJ is horrible/gets hurt & Orton is horrible OR EJ is horrible and no hook for Orton, Marrone, Whaley, & Brandon gone) Most Likely: 8-8 (EJ gets the hook but not in time to make the playoffs, Brandon & Whaley stay, Marrone maybe)

If EJ still looks brutal after the 1st few games, he'll get the hook as soon as Orton is ready. Too many people fighting for their jobs this year to think otherwise.

Bottom line, I don't think Russ deserves a pass from the new ownership if this team tanks the year, not at all. Neither does Whaley if the team tanks due to the QB position. They both will have made their bed & they'll have to lie in it. Of course, if the team finally turns it around on the field, I have absolutely no problem with them staying along with Marrone.
