There is another good reason to draft Harvey or Merling, It's simply this. There is a premium on Defensive Linemen. It's not likely the Bills will draft this high for the next few years. You have to get good DL when you can. Every other position seems to be plentiful in later rounds. Not so DL with pash rush abilility who have size. The Bills will be a better team in 08 then will be in the bottom half of the Draft. You have to ge those top rated DL when you have the chance.

actually that would be a good thing for the bills. Unless he runs a 4.5 and verticals 38+ i do not want him at 11. I would take a WR at 16 and lower but not 11. Its Harvey, Merlin, Rivers or one of the three DB at 11 or it's trade down. Harvey number 1 and Kelly number 2 is fine with me.

I haven't seen too many discussing us taking LB Keith Rivers

If he is there it would likely mean that Harvey was not and he would be the best player at 11. I would take him or trade out. -
Check out Draft Tek today. They have Bill and Niners in a trade. They also say there are 1/2 dozen possible trades involving the Bills in Round 1 for pick 11. We get Sweed with Niners at pick at 29. Also pick 40 and pick 104. Turns out to be a tidy haul for us. I would take it in a heartbeat. Pick number 11 is the hottest pick in the Draft. No one wants a top ten pick but 11 ...Perfect! Bills may be in the Cat bird seat. Brandon earn your stripes. I hope he is up to it. We won't know for years of course but there are great athletes in this draft into the 7th round. Perhaps 5 prime players at the top and then a lot of very good players.

Anyone know what the holdup is with re-signing Evans?

The Fitzgerald deal was a shocker. The Market below him needs to stabilize. The Bills are a conservative team with cap dollars. I am sure they want to see how the draft goes. From the Bills point of view I might sign my number 2 this year. And look at next years draft. If there is a great WR available who could be number 1 take him. If not use the Franchise tag until you can replace him. -
Offensive Line Stats--subtitled 'Fowler must go.'

That's it OLine number 1. Just kidding. Seriously thank you for your analysis. Nice to see some very useful informaiton that is more than an opinion. -
Draft Tek Runs a Sim of Bills TradeDown

I would take this trade in a heartbeat Sweed or no Sweed. You can trade for a WR on Draft day if the guy you want is not available. The extra picks give us flexibility and leverage. I love the idea that we would not have to commit cap dollars to an unproven rookie who might be worth it two years down the road. -
After reading The Friday Q&A with CB

The one year element does not bother me in the least. It was this year and it was huge. Andre Reed type run after the catch guy who will get better. -
The media guys are ex players who are ex union members by definition. Even the coach's tend to be biased toward the players and not the owners. And who represents the fans?

Who thinks drafting a CB in 1st is pass D priority?
Trader replied to Pyrite Gal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think we have to draft a DB number 1. I do think we need another quality DB. I think we could do it number at number 11 and I would not complain if we did but we don't have to do it. IF DRC is there i take him Or I trade down. If D Harvey is there I take him or trade down. Same with Ellis. We have a lot of options at 11. I am not married to any of them. I do think that if the only option is a WR we should try to trade down and if no trade is there then we take the best player we can. -
I listened to the talking heads on the NFL channel on Siruis today. They discussed that Phillips short shuttle time was greater than his 40 time. Both guys agreed that it was a bad sign and it was an indication of sprinter speed but not football speed. I don't think they shoud allow sprinter blocks at the combine and pro days. Why not have players run from the stance that they would normally have at their position?

With the exception of the first pick of the draft I would give 0 credibility to any official report coming from any of the 32 teams in the league as to who they will take or not take. Mis information rules the day, and it should. I give no credibility to the visits. Many players get drafted without interviewing for a team at all. The Draftniks are more credible at this time than the teams. If you were a GM or a scout and your drafting 11 why on earth would you tell anyone about your draft board?

Jones is a great athlete. Probably the equivalent of Bryant Johnson. Underachievers. He would be worth it for us under the right contract. Low base high incentive.
-
He would be my pick at 11. 60-40 he is gone by then.

I think they have a couple of alternative plans ready to go. I like the job the FO has done and I am really looking forward to the draft to see how they handle it.

Harvey might be a nice pick at 11. The more i think about it I am convinced that teams will want to trade with the Bills for the 11th pick. Most teams do not want a top ten pick because of the price -risk issues. But 11 is another story. So if a team wants a Harvey or another pick they might deal with the Bills for it. I would love an extra second and then trade back into the first. Or keep the second and have 3 players out of the first two rounds.

Didn't Bowman run a 4.8 ?
-
I left Jordy Nelson off because I saw him going to the Bills on one Mock draft in the second round . See Matt Mcguires pics on Walters football. I was thinking 3rd rounders on down. Incedentially Mcguire has us taking DE Drrrick Harvey in the first - which i would not hate. Nelson in the Second and a guard from Tenn in the third.. We would have to sign James at corner in FA for that to happen i think.

Has anyone seen much of these WR's Johnson- Kentucky - 6 1" 210 Wheelwright- Minnesota 6"4" 215 Henry - Kansas 6'4" 210 Hocker - Duquesne 6' 4" - 205 they seem to have good numbers and athletic ability

The winners of the game do not overpay for mediocrity. Wether it's your own free agent or someone else's It' really about optimal use of the available resources.

The Bills, along with most teams in the league are delighted that they do not have a top ten pick in the draft. The price vrs. bust rate is just too high.

Draft a WR number 1 or 2 CB or TE 1, 2, or 3 Follow the value board the rest of the way. Sign Eric Moulds to a 1 year deal Re: Lee Evans -reach a deal before the season starts if possible. If we cannot reach a deal for Evans, then let him play out his last year and hang the franchise tag on him for an additional year or until we can replace him.
