Clearly Luck is the best traditional NFL QB in this draft and perhaps the best to come along in several years. I was very impressed with some of his throws against Virginnia Tech. However, he had all day to make those throws. The entire Stanford team was overpowering. Did anyone see the Stanford vrs Oregon game? It will be very interesting to compare Newton and Luck against Oregon, that will go a long way in forming my opinion about Newton as my number 1.

I agree Newton had a wonderfull year! How do you feel about Fairley? Last year he has 3 stops behind the line and this year he had 20. Is he a one year wonder too? I understand the one year wonder concept what I don't understand is the label applied to a player who had a turly exceptional year. Newton is the most dominant player in college football in a decade. There is nothing one year about that kind of talent. I am looking forward to the championship game, his interviews and the combine. There are some questions about his character. There are no questions about his leadership. There are no questions about his throwing motion, accruacy, or arm strength.

With the fourth pick in the 2011 NFL Draft....
Trader replied to DC Grid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One certain thing is that it will not be hard to make room on this roster. I would like to find a QB who can run the wildcat like they did on us today. Now who would that Be?? -
Lance Kendricks TE Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. Probably the most complete TE in draft Blocks and catches well. A player like him could really crank up the Bills Offense. Also any Wisconsin Offensive lineman would be a great addition to the Bills. Carini gets a lot of press and he is good but Moffitt a guard is just as good as he is. He really moves really well. All Wisconsin offensive linemen are huge they average 321 accross the front. There running backs are five yards down the field before there is contact.

Fitzpatrick is an experienced QB, very strong mentally and he is a strong leader. Sitting out a meaningless game is not going to hurt his development, ego or future.

Just watched both coaches press conferences

It all boils down to this. There is a,"smart team" and there is a,"really dumb team", guess which team is playoff bound? Hint: The,"smart team", coach has a wife with pretty feet. -
I agree with you. I have watched him as well and I can't wait to see him against Oregon and at the combine. Newton is a special player and he is going to be a great NFL player barring injury. His throwing motion is unflawed. His arm is strong and accurate. Athletically there is no one like him in football. Faster than Tebow and is strong like Rothlesberger, bigger than Vick, more of a leader than Vince Young.

one of you "WE GOTTA LOSE THIS WEEK!" people
Trader replied to jester43's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like a lot of things in sports and in business in general it's not that simple. You would have to compare the entire list of 7 rounds for the team that drafted in each relative position. If you don't believe there is a difference than you might as well fire all of your scouts and save the payroll. Just get a copy of several of the rags and read them. Hold your draft accordingly. -

I agree completely. I don't get it either. The quick shot of adrenilin they get from a win soon passes and the Bills remain the pathetic collection of embarrasing doormats they have been for the decade. They don't get that draft position is more then the first round it's improved draft position in All SEVEN rounds. I love the draft and I have followed it for twenty years. It really galls me when the player we need is drafted one or two spots ahead of the one I want. -
If your going to cheer for another team make it Denver. Just let the Bills start their bench players and let nature take it's course. Tape some bowl games and watch them on Sunday. Keep your eyes closed until the league standings come out on Sunday night and if you are lucky you will see the Bills at 4 and 12. and Denver at 5 Wins. Then watch the BCS game with Newton lighting up Oregon you will feel better about it.

If the Jets pull their starters, shouldn't the Bills...
Trader replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This game should be played like a pre season game for the Bills. Spiller is my running back for the entire game. Let him get used to running the ball and hanging on to it in cold weather. Brohm is the frist half QB and if he does too well bring in Levi Brown. Fitzpatrick is mentally strong enough I am not worried about shaking his confidence he has all next pre season to forget about the Pats game. I want to see Maybin the whole game along with McCargo. I want to see the two new offensive lineman we picked up and I want a lot of Wang as well. i have seen enough of Stupar at TE to know that he is not a starter let's see the two new additions. Also i think that Jon Corto deserves to start at LB and let him off special teams for the day. The Jets will be trying to lose the game and the Bills will gain momentum from winning???? Surely you jest. -
David Nelson's injury devasted the red zone offense
Trader replied to Lenigmusx's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really like David Nelson but his injury demonstrates why you need a real Tight End. You can't keep throwing the ball up high over the middle to a big slim tall guy like that and exposing his ribs to the kind of safeties and LB's that are in the league now. It's just asking for injury. -
You probably have nothing to fear because Wilson, Litman and company will want to save as much cash to the cap as possible and will relish in beating up on the Jets bench players rather that having to lay out 50 million on a top five draft pick. They will label a hollow victory over the, "Almost Jets", as "Progress" even though it will be a completely irrevelant victory. The Bills will do their usual stumble and fumble draft but will make up for those mistakes by overpaying a third tier free agent or two who will be of absolutely no use to the team next year. I have faith in two people in the Bills organization. Russ Brandon knows how to sell tickets for an awful team and Chan Gailey who I believe could bring a winner here if he had enough talent. The rest of the Bills leadership is a total waste form the top down.
-
Hopefully we will play our C squad. Denver, Cinci and Detroit all won. The Bills could pick second if Denver wins next week. If trhe Bills finish wiht5 Wins we lose a lot of spots in the draft. Do The Math.
-
Next week the Bills need to lose. A win over the Jets will hurt this franchise much more than helping it.
-
Yes but they need a real Tight End on thank can block and cath so the D does not know if you are going to throw or run. I suggest the TE from Wisconson. "Kendricks", I think in next years draft. Likely round 3 or late round 2.
-
I am not saying that this did happen or that it did not happen but it would be a bad precedent for an owner to bail out the ticket sales all the time. Anyone could have bought a ticket on line or through organizations for 20 bucks this past week. Maybe a group sales person makes a call an offfers a local businessman tickets for half or 1/4 that price to buy them all. so 7000 tickets for 5 dollars each is 35k. Maybe the business man offers 25k for the deal and gets great publicity as a result. Not saying that happened just saying it could happen. The result is the game is on TV= big bucks for the team and league.

The Big White elephant in the Room
Trader replied to Bills99999's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have a different take on Cam Newton. I think he is Michael Vick only bigger, and at least as smart. Vick's success this year combined with Newton's great preformance on a national stage in January followed by a great combine will propel Newton into a top five pick. If by some chance he fell to the Bills I would take him in spite of the Bills obvious other needs and the success of Fitzpatrick as a team leader and a QB. Newton would be the ideal player for a creative offensive coach like Chan. Fitzpatrick would remain at QB for the next 2-3 years but Newton would become a combination of the Slash QB, Pistol QB, Tight End, H Back, Fullback, Tailback etc, 5th receiver ect. The defensive would have to find him on the field. Newton would create enormous mismatches and open up the game. Think about what the Patriots are about to do with the 2011 draft? The Bills will have to be twice as good as the Patriots brain trust just to stay even. That is not going to happen, the only chance the Bills have is to leapfrog into the future and a player like Newton could do just that. Is it a gamble? Yep but I am willing to bet that Newton will help his NFL team a lot more that any Offensive lineman or Linebacker will (yes I agree that they are desparate for help there too). It's a radical approach and I doubt that the Bills are creative enough to do it. -
Nelson scored the crucial TD in the Alabama game to win the National Championship last year. I called him to be a success when the free agents were first signed. He made a great choice by signing with the Bills.
-
No matter who the Bills draft their brain trust will have to be twice as good as the Pats. NE has twice the picks of the Bills in the first four rounds next year. Nix has already admitted he is not the smartest guy in the room. I agree with him.
-
Jason Peters scouting report was not exactly glowing when he came out of college either. The guy obviously has something you can't coach and that is size. If it's a one in five chance he will develop it is worth the risk.
-
The interesting thing about Newton is that he does not have to start or sit the bench. He can play H back where he could be a tripple threat. Last year they drafted Spiller to give them an offensive spark (that has not worked out to date). Newton could be the best player available when they draft.
-
Spiller was drafted because the Bills braintrust thought he was the best player available. He was not. It's a failure for this new regime. I really don't care how good he might be in the future they drafted him to help now and he didn't there is no other way to evaluate it. Jerry Sullivan has it right.

Did anyone just see that BOMB from Cam Newton?
