  1. Don't forget Matt Estrella vs Video guy from NFL films
  2. It's possible that Byrd is here longer than the coaching staff. But I really don't mind the coaching that much. It's certainly not top 5 in the NFL, but IMO it's not bottom 5 either. The weak, smallish, and injury prone players on defense bothered me for DJ's first couple years. But the D seemed better with Stroud in the middle last year. The lack of a NFL caliber starting QB bothered me for DJ's first couple years, but Edwards is now in his 3rd year, and looks steady most of the time when he's able to play. The lack of a pass rush bothers me. That's on the coaches due to lack of effective schemes. Bottom line for me is although there are 5-10 coaches that I'd rather have, our coaching has generally improved year over year. If the Bills can fix the pass rush, Byrd has the potential to become a very good playmaker.
  3. ...Or just be better than Carolina's 2010 first round pick, as that was a decent option at the time. (Carolina traded up to get Brown.) Why all the DJ hate? DJ doesn't have complete say on draft picks. Wasn't it Fewell who had the family connection with this kid? Anyway, now that he's a Bill, let's hope he becomes our version of Ed Reed.
  4. Vick is a nice player, but I'd rather face the Patriots with Vick taking 5 or 6 snaps, rather than Brady taking all of them.
  5. I was at camp on Sunday afternoon, and I was pleasantly surprised with how Ryan Fitzpatrick looked, albeit without full pads. Great velocity on the over the middle throws. Decent touch on the long passes. Hamdan looked very bad and could easily be cut to open a roster spot for Vick if needed.
  6. I think Reed is a good blocker because of plays like this: some great blocking
  7. I think the offense has improved over the last couple years. The last slant I remember was in 2009 against Cleveland when it bounced off of Evans and was returned for a TD. So that pattern is in the playbook. I'm sure it was called often. I love when Trent checks down because it a.) avoids a sack, and b.) our RBs are very good catching the ball and getting yards on those plays. We need a better TE and more experienced QB before you see the seam routes used often again. Both the play calling and the variations in formations, motion, and blocking schemes have been notably better since Jauron and his staff took over. And they have improved slightly from year to year. I know many may not share that opinion. We'll see how it all comes together this year with an added playmaker at WR and a brand new line. I'd expect a small step backwards in pass protection (because of the line changes) but maybe a surprise step forwards in running due to more advanced blocking schemes that they may be able to pull off.
  8. If Hardy ends up on injured reserve, we can keep keep the six others. (Evans, Owens, Reed, Parish, Johnson, Jenkins). If Hardy is on the roster, we'll need to cut one or even two of those six. I say if the Bills can't get a 5th or higher, let those six battle it out in pre-season and keep the best 5 (plus Hardy).
  9. Heard on WGR a couple weeks back that is was about $6M, and the victom's family wanted to just put the situation behind them.
  10. June 1st is purely a contract date now. Some players have a roster bonus due June 1, which enables them some time to sign on with another team. A few years back, there was a rule that some or all of the cap-deferred signing bonuses could be deferred into next year if the player was cut on/after June 1st. Now, that rule no longer exists and the cap hit is always this year.
  11. Nice highlight video. Check out the devastating block by Josh Reed at the point of attack. He should be back in the slot for us this year.
  12. I think the Bills would like to sign him, but it comes down to the asking price. Should the Bills overpay and make "an offer that can't be refused" offer? Or take a chance, and wait it out for a more reasonable contract like the one the Bucs made for Crowell? Really the only thing preventing Tinoisamoa from fielding other offers is the Bills willing to pay him more than he thinks he's worth elsewhere. That or the history of winning and their coach's personality. Regardless of what happens, I expect that the Bills will try to address the position in the next years draft.
  13. I think that's exactly the point. 91 catches and 5 TDs for Royal the 2nd best season of a rookie WR ever. Hardy had 2 TDs on 9 catches (22%) - including a game winner against JAX. Another big WR on the Bills is Owens (69 catches and 10 TDs). Larger receivers are generally better for TDs for various reasons. Hardy will come around. Braylon Edwards - who seems like a good comparison to me - had 32 catches and 3 TDs in his first season.
  14. Corey should have a productive season this year. I mean what defender now won't hisitate a step before taking on his block?
  15. Not certain, but I think RJ won the job against the 49ers. The memorable play in the following game (other than the miracle) was when RJ's shoe came off near the end of the game as time was running out and he completes the pass on 3rd and long in stocking feet.
  16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tX8DTfuCxKs 11/20/88 Bills vs. Jets, clinch AFC east, tear down FG posts. 3rd row seats.
  17. Maybe they would take Wood, Nelson, and $8M per year to go sign some other FAs.
  18. Nice detective work, now that's digging deep. I wonder if the front office knows yet...
  19. When Trent is checking down, our offense moves the ball safely and effectively - at least until they get into the red-zone. Watch the Cleveland game again for evidence of that. IMO, that decision making is what makes Trent a better than average QB. Last year's biggest issues on offense were: - Playing against 3-4 defense / nose tackles. Bills got smarter and nastier interior lineman. But they're young, so may take time to develop strength, etc. - Red-zone. Bills drafted Hardy last year who struggled adjusting to the ball. Though Hardy caught a couple TDs including the game winner against Jacksonville. - Lack big plays. The Bills brought in TO to score and also take coverage off of Evans. - Trent's injury / concussion woes. The Bills have not really addressed Trent's injury proneness. The defense is full of good tacklers and has top 10 upside if (a big IF) - They can generate a pass rush. Schobel back, Maybin added. - LBs stop missing gap assignments giving up big runs in crucial parts of the game. - Ball halking FS. (Whitner, if Scott is SS or else Byrd if Whitner is SS). - They don't wear down and give up 8 minute drives in 4th quarters.
  20. More like Inebriated.
  21. Hopefully Tyrone had an injury insurance policy cause torn ACL for a LB means uphill battle. I think NE used a 3rd round compensation pick on him. So easy come easy go from their point of view. NE traded their other 3rd round picks for 2nd rounders in 2010 - which is a great move if you're loaded with talent.
  22. We should bring him in for a look, but I can understand if we don't. Signing Jones means we don't dress Wood, Levitre, Chambers, Bell, or Butler. Probably Levitre or Bell. Levitre or Bell then becomes a backup if a lineman is out for a game. Will this hinder their development? The upshot is that it basically takes the risk out of shuffling the right side of the line as well as depending on Levitre or Bell being a player this year. We could have a pair of Levi's (Jones and Levitre) on our O-line.
  23. Kenwick, did you consider that with our potent, high octane, and no huddle offense that our defense might actually give up more yards (and rank lower) because of using prevent defense in the 4th quarter? Agreed that getting Schobel back and having Maybin in there should improve things against the pass. Not sure about the analysis regarding the rest of the players. A big problem last year was getting off of the field in the 4th quarter facing the other team's run the clock offense. I think the solution to that is bigger, badder, faster LB corps and another stud DT. Of course they could avoid that altogether by having a lead in the 4th quarter.
  24. I believe that many of our defenders get hurt in part due to being undersized. So in our scheme, we need quality starters and depth to compete.
