Black unis for 1st home game?
BackInDaDay replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
that might be awkward.. Ralph's favorite team growing up was the Detroit Lions, and the Bills first unis were copies of theirs.. an RW patch would be just right, imo.. -
Should the NFL have a Hair Rule?
BackInDaDay replied to oman128's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
ESPN, N.Korea.. "in first game as player in capitalist american footballing league, supreme leader ran with ball 800 meters; threw ball 1000 meters; touched down the ball 100 times and accumulated insurmountable amounts of scoring points. the divine one is now accepted as fiercest ever playing man for yellow dog, yankee cowards." dadada dadada -
Houston looking to trade 1st pick (Buffalo?)
BackInDaDay replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
if you've been paying attention to how your team is being built - you'd realize that there is far more value in what we'd lose, than what we'd gain. -
Like to see a no equipment league. No helmets. No shoulder pads. Nothing. American tackle football the way we all played it - and the way it's still played - by young men in parks across our country from fall through winter. There was at least one such league here in central nj a couple years back. No pay, just an organized weekend men's league called TownBeef for some reason. I'm going to google it after this to see if it's still operating. yep, they're still going strong.. one of my kids played for a couple seasons with a core of guys from his HS team.. lots of tough guys who pretty much police themselves.. this is why Evans will be the pick.. DIVERSITY! if we've learned anything during this free agency period, it's that Whaley and Marrone are building a team where the additional player's talents complement those already on the roster.. and although we don't have a TE with the skills to match young Ebron, if our current TE are healthy we have good depth and the potential to attack a D with diverse skill sets.. the same can be said to a degree about out WR corp, but we lack the 'go get it' receiver. Evans is the perfect compliment to our current roster of WRs - just as Spikes was to our LBs. We will draft Evans - i have no doubt about it - because his addition will create so many matchup problems in our opponents' secondaries. you know who hopes we don't take Evans? Belichick! you know who's been getting ready for us to draft Evans? you got it! i, for one, have been very impressed with the common sense manner in which our team is coming together.. honestly, i don't think many of you appreciate how Whaley and Marrone are working their plan.. fortifying the team, getting diverse talents, becoming harder to defend.. to attack.. it's got the makings of a very solid 2014 Bills team.. i wish more of you were enjoying this offseason as much as i am, but like the great Danny O'keefe once wrote ~ like a dog on the corner, that can't raise it's head it settles for lifting it's leg instead.. guess you're entitled to your pessimism, but you're gonna enjoy 2014.. hope Jimbo sticks around to see it..

Byrd = $12.3 M cash, our 5 new FA signings = $17.775 M cash
BackInDaDay replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Byrd isn't a game changer. We'll be fine back there as long as A Williams stays healthy and keeps bringing the wood. -
well, this has my vote for the Cam Brady Award! "i hardly ever vote.. i just play games on my phone..'words with friends' .. 'draw something'.. and facebook old girlfriends"

i know it's not what you meant, but i'd rather they choose the QB by having all the candidates face off on the field, and beat each other down until a victor emerges. at least that would only take about 20 minutes. and the staff could get back to teaching one kid how to play QB in the NFL. yes. two 'rookies' won't get the necessary work to make either of them productive. backups get limited reps with the 1st team, if any. that's why backups are usually experienced enough to not to have to practice. if any of the QBs live through the above mentioned brawl - fix up the guy with the most experience as your backup, and point the rest to Buffalo General with some carfare
-
some may be willing to give Manuel this season and next, but if he stay's healthy i think the staff will know what they have by the end of this season. sure there is.. the development of a good pro QB. let the staff work with ONE kid at a time.. drafting more is subtraction by addition - less time for anyone to learn the game.

Clearing up some OL Confusion
BackInDaDay replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
nice work. Bandit, but i have to agree with this.. ..because i saw too many plays where our QBs waited on routes that didn't develop on time. there's a reason why we hired a new assistant OC, QB and WR coaches - sloppy execution with little sense of urgency.. fix the schematics and coach up the players.. it isn't Madden.. these guys have to know where they're going and when they have to get there.. they have to be on the same page reading their defenders to chose the right option, if their routes have an option.. after all this gets straightened out, and the QBs can't get the ball - on time - to the right spot, then we can throw out our QBs.. but not until then! Hackett better lead, or get out of the way. -
Manny Lawson, what will become of him?
BackInDaDay replied to Buftex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Personally, I prefer an attacking defense where the idea is to flood a gap and force the offense to react by altering their blocking assignments. I haven't seen much tape on our biggest breakdowns, but I'd guess we were funneled away from the play - either by a change in the call or assignments or both.. that happens to any D that takes risks - but even risks should be mitigated by secondary personnel carrying out their responsibilities.. our young guys blew some reads that made matters worse.. from what I saw of Lawson - I don't recall seeing him failing to adapt during such breakdowns.. if anything, I seem to recall him being in the right position to keep some plays from breaking big.. wish I could give games/plays, but I can only recall that on more than a couple occasions I thought he was the difference in a play - and that's what I'm left with.. regardless of how Schwartz installs his D, having a heads up ball player like Lawson is a big advantage -

as someone whose been posting how a Spikes signing impacts an immediate need and impacts our options in the upcoming draft, i fully expect an offer would be made that doesn't insult Spikes, but that won't bowl him over.. it's a good fit, at the right time, but Whaley has options to filling our ILB needs in 2014 and beyond that don't require he to give up the store for Spikes.. hoping it works out so we can get our WR and OT before having to address ILB. -

we'll overpay a bit because of the freedom he gives us in the draft, but he won't be overpaid as a sitiuational defender. We won't offer what Smith got from Ravens because Smith will never see the entire 16M. Spikes is 4 years younger, and we'll have to live with his contract - even as his liability in pass defense increases.. 3 years/9M (4/3/2) with 1M bonus -

in that case.. we'd pass.. but i don't think his skill set will get that kind of offer -
Whaley confirms Kiko is moving to OLB

I'm thinking that his limitations as a veteran player will hamper his negotiations with most teams who'll be looking for him as they would a situational pass-rushing OLB.. -

agree to a point.. that point being that NFL offenses have adapted well to the rule changes that benefit the passing game, but when the situation presents itself - they will still attack an obvious weakness. no one did a better job selling me on the need for a strong ILB than the Pats did in our last game. ..this. -

his topped out in his 4th year of 4 year deal with Pats at 630K.. 320K+ 450K + 540K + 630K + 1M (almost) signing bonus spread out over the 4 years he's limited in where he can be used, but he excels in that role and should be open to taking a respectful offer to assume it -

if we fill a need for our 'run package' ILB thru FA, we then have the luxury of taking Evans/Ebron in first or trade down for a couple 2nd rd picks if they want to shore up OT in the first rd and wait for the FSU WR and another solid ILB prospect in 2nd rd.. we have to get stronger up the middle.. Williams is coming along fine at SS, but we have to shore up 2nd level.. -

"signing a 27 year old Brandon Spikes to a 'comfortable' contract would fall in place with these other signings - bringing in a guy who can fill an immediate need as a two-down run-stuffer, but who's not so over-priced that he didn't have to compete to get on the field.. " ~ from the 'Bills doing an excellent job' thread work him out and see if he's ok.. he won't break the bank.. perfect option, that doesn't preclude drafting another ILB early
