i'll tell ya what, John from Hemet, i'll move on when i'm good and ready to.

if you mean, there was no reason to start another EJ thread, yeah.. i already admitted creating a new post was a mistake.. otherwise, i don't understand your reply. venom? no.. it's an observation on how his teammates have been reacting to his play during the last couple game - beginning with the play that almost got Goodwin's head taken off - to how they're reacting to the promotion of his backup - commenting on how he takes control - and his head coach's comments regarding how EJ handles his demotion. i could have started this by saying that i think the team believes EJ's soft and avoided hearing all the wailing and gnashing of teeth that is the Buffalo Bills fan's bread and butter.. but i do think he's soft.

Bills aren't going to hold back this weekend

if Orton can make the 3 or 4 completions that EJ couldn't - the ones that move the chains and keep drives alive - we win. i'm not sure how much more consistent Orton will play the position, but it won't be too big for him -
he's got a ton of great qualities, but his inability to earn a leadership role puts a major dent in his ability to command the offense.. the coaches knew that making him a captain would make matters worse.. have you noticed how his teammates are noting the difference in Orton's ability to control the huddle, while EJ's commenting on improving "my enunciation in the huddle"? enunciation? as in.. speak up? be heard? take control? c'mon guys!

the only criticism of any note is directed at the need to create another negative thread about EJ.. that's absolutely true.. should have posted this elsewhere. but as far as my opinion on what's going down on that football team, i'm sorry to say, i think i got it right..

i think the team has seen it, and the coaches were probably hoping he'd toughen up and take control.. as much as i was on board with how they were going to build our franchise QB - i gotta give props to everyone who knew that he should have competed for the starting job. he got it by default, and try as he could, he just wasn't up to it.. but that's his problem.. Marrone took control. he had to.. the team was not going to commit to any kind of fierce effort if they thought any one of them was getting a free pass.. it's just the way it broke.. but give Marrone credit.. this should light a fire under everyone's ass.. including EJ btw -i think his comment regarding "this might toughen him up" , or something like that, spoke directly to the problem.

did you watch him in college? he plays with the same confidence he exuded as a sophomore coming off the bench to beat Rutgers with a busted wrist and a bad wheel.. he's the real deal, but we can save this discussion until later -

EJ's made plays when he knows where he's going with the ball before it's snapped. this is why the coaches worked so hard on coordinating the timing of routes with his mechanics - because the game's still too fast for him to make decisions. unfortunately, situational football requires the QB to make decisions when plays break down, and the first thing a DC's gonna do is disrupt those timing plays and make the young QB find his other options. eventually, given the opportunity, the young QB gets comfortable and grows confident in his decisions. kids like Wilson and Bridgewater, who immediately look like 10 year vets, are the exception to the rule. which is why i have a soft spot for guys like Eli and Smith, who were almost drummed out of the league before getting 'it' -
only fitting, since it was EJ who folded the edge of that mat over when he saw Kolb jogging out..

not sure why, but this post reminds me of this clip.. i think you can imagine who represents Orton, Marrone, and the fans.. http://youtu.be/ZYCvn7pqEHI

Why I think Marrone should be fired...

Marrone still has a shot at sainthood.. nothin like a sacrifice to start the story -

he does have at least one very good receiver who snagged a 100mph fastball thrown at his feet from 4 yards away.. -
EJ was benched for the rest of the team's sake

EJ 'the project' became EJ 'the liability'. funny thing.. if that last ball was batted into Williams' hands, and he strolls into the endzone - EJ starts vs Detroit - warts, and all -

big frame, strong arm, no touch.. watching him and Nova play 'who's the worst QB' during the Rutgers/PSU game made the exhibition EJ and Fitz put on look like Montana vs Marino.. -

Buffalo fans, and their love for the backup QB.

the only thing he can learn on the sideline, is how much he wants it, how he'll get it back, and how he'll keep it.. the guy in the middle answered the call a hundred years ago, after being left for dead -
Jackson plays with a sense of urgency.. he leaves nothing on the field. he understands when his team's got a D on their heels, and when was plenty pissed when EJ and Hackett had to burn a t.o. right after his big play - giving the D a chance to re-group.
-
yep, and i think this is what's killing everybody.. that with better QB play, we'd be a a playoff team. is Orton good enough to get us there? probably. i always thought he was a better option than Kolb - with a more of a resume. would this close the door to Manuel's development? no reason why it should. for those of you old enough to remember, you might recall Bradshaw's early troubles with the Steeler's that resulted in him being benched in favor of Hanratty and Gilliam.. but he answered the challenge. if everything that's been written about EJ's character is accurate, he might also respond favorably to taking a back seat for awhile.
-
no problem.. i'm as frustrated as many of you are with his play.. but - and this is coming from a guy who never thought we were drafting a pocket passer - i'm trying to point out some aspects of his game today that didn't, well.. suck. I think it's a big transition for guys coming out of read-option collegiate offenses, to become NFL caliber QBs. i see no point in blaming the kid for his deficiencies - but i completely understand the frustration of watching our Bills squandering their chances to make the play-offs because EJ Manuel remains a work in progress
-
i guess what impressed me about that, was that the moment wasn't too big for him. in other words, when an opportunity presented itself, he capitilized with a throw that was on the mark and kept Williams running. after watching a mixture of good and bad passing all day, it was encouraging to see.
-
i was waiting for that.. look at it this way, fans have been waiting to see some sign of life from their QB - similar to what they've seen from Geno Smith - well, today they got it. the good, the bad, and the ugly
