  1. ... if only from a Bills fan's perspective of what our relatively healthy D could accomplish, compared to what a short-handed Rex D will get done
  2. Schwarz had a sound gameplan to start, but after the half, the Pats decided they'd give up any pretense of running. settled into protect mode for what they saw could work downfield, and only split when they wanted to come underneath. as i, and others have been saying - you have to know coming in, the weapons your opponent has that can break the game open - and you have to try to account for that - priority #1. which is why many of us were amazed at the ease in which the Pats did what they wanted with little contention in the 2nd half
  3. hey Pipe, have no fear - the past is the past - we're in good hands now.. Kim Pegula will be making decisions Tim Graham of the Buffalo News has reported that Kim Pegula was the driving force behind the Pegulas purchasing the Buffalo Bills in many ways. Graham also said she will be making executive decisions when it comes to the Bills. Kim graduated Houghton College in '91 with a Communications degree, and worked for Terry for two years before marrying him. Jeez.. you can't make this **** up.. is there a Reggie Dunlop in our future? or maybe a Wild Thing?
  4. if i could turn Gronk into a run-blocker, i'd live with that - i certainly have a better chance giving help to support the run
  5. if you're in the same division as the Pats, how do you not have a defender to play their TE? with today's rules, most defensive contact is illegal, so the defender doesn't need to be a physical freak to cover him - just tall, and quick enough to keep up with him. considering they split Gronk out, or flex him, to get free releases off the line - a defender doesn't have a chance of keeping him from getting where he wants to go. and because of his size, there's never any deception to his route running - it's just not necessary. he simply runs downfield, head and shoulders above his defenders. so you find an athletic 6' 9 -10"" ex-basketball forward - with a wingspan that matches his height - who can run with a guy 60lbs heavier. you put him on the practice squad, and work out the details on what you'll pay him to stay with the squad until his practice squad eligibility expires. now you have the option of activating him whenever the likes of Gronk are on the schedule. just coach him up to keep an inside technique between him and the QB - like defending an inbound b-ball play. think of it from the QB's perspective. if a rangy defender is staying with him - it's no longer a given i'm completing this pass. now, this may seem too simple to comprehend, but i guarantee that if the Bills had such a tough match-up on our roster - innovative guys like Belichik would have an answer on theirs. they would never enter a season knowing they have no answer to what their division opponents will do.
  6. i think our guys are up to the task against many offenses, but there's a reason Pete Carroll likes tall DBs. we should consider that next April.
  7. and 300 - that's 300 - 2nd half yards!!!! after a sound defensive 1st half - we gave Brady too many places to go with the ball in the 2nd half. we weren't prepared to counter the Pats
  8. amen. or make sure your corner's help is able to help.. why do i get the feeling that if we had Gronk, Belichik would have 2 tall DBs on his roster - it's not Gronk's speed that beats DBs - it's his height. i was at the point where i would have understood them marching Lee Smith out there on D.
  9. this sounds like the name of a swanky drink, but it was actually an acceptable coverage in Schwarz D gameplan.. ..and when this is your plan, you have no plan we were undressed today in our house.. 300 2nd half yards.. welcome back to earth, coach
  10. thanks. for the link.. there was Globe link there to a story on Brady making the trip to Buffalo without a walking boot. hmmm..
  11. years ago i was in Green Bay to watch Packer vs Vikings... our cabbie told us the Vikes usually get serenaded throughout the night.. could be time to break out the Bon Jovi songbook. hell, maybe Kraft will come out and join ya
  12. yep.. looks like the FS (not shown) is back toward the middle of the field - ready to give help on either seem - because the RCB's thinks he needs to pursue the seem.. 58 could have clamped on that earlier. notice that the 4 man rush is geting no pressure after what looks like free releases by the TEs - if those are both TEs.. (edit - oops.. missed bandit's original screen shots) we can't let them feel at home, where the buffalo roam
  13. yeah - guess i need to self-scout - always preaching timing, timing, timing i hear ya, but if he isn't gonna hit the hole like a true halfback, then at least get him moving towards the line.. those flat footed handoffs out of the shotgun all come off looking like aborted draws.
  14. CJ might have more success as a tailback out of the I - where he'd get a better look at the line play.. with our assortment of receiving threats, the thought of him bouncing outside could force a base D to widen up to defend the edge, or sacrifice coverage to contain.
  15. similar concerns in how to defend.. the good news is, defending our O can be a juggling act, too[quote name=over 20 years of fanhood' timestamp='1413029112' post='3292536] Then you've got run, and avoiding manning spikes on a tight end or RB. 50s chasing 20s is never a good thing - not in love or football
  16. it's basically an elongated swing pass to the RB - or motioned receiver from the opposite side - that can either turn upfield past a LB, or break off into a curl when there's a safety waiting. that's why i'd be concerned with Edelman - when our safeties are pre-occupied on the inside. hopefully we learned something defending the Chargers attack that helps us this Sunday
  17. straight up - i agree, what concerns me with Brady is his ability to see the man cover, and shift his formation so his read is basically beaten before the snap. yes, i saw that, and expect to see it.. but again, when Brady suspects something's up - he usually has the means to expose it, that's why we have to mix everything with pressure.. he only gets frustrated when forced to squander opportunities - and to his credit, he sees more opportunities than the average QB. and yeah, TYTTasker.. i'm thinking consistent pressure in Brady's face will help take the middle passing lanes away, but then you have the 'careful what you ask' situation of defending Edelman (out of the backfield) and Amendola (from the slot) on simple wheel routes - cleared out by the big TEs
  18. Pepper's D line may have more responsibilities against the Pats if Schwarz elects to use some wide 9 alignments to keep their TEs from getting clean releases off the line. when the TEs are in tight, the DEs could go to the wider technique to funnel them into a combo of LBs or LB/SS. when they split, our DEs could play an inside tech, chipping them to an outside LB/SS combo. anything like that would have to be coordinated with how our DTs attack their middle - penetrating? playing two gaps? stunting? stunting? blitzing with an additional defender? wherever we take a body away from our base to implement the above, we'll have to do our best to disguise where we've weakened ourselves.. for instance, we'll probably have many occasions where we have to put at least one DB in a man situation with a wide out - just to have enough bodies to defend the rest of the field. so with Brady being pretty sharp, he'll spot that more than not - so disrupting his timing by disrupting his TEs is huge. when they're not on the field, or if they split them out like slot guys, i'd jam them/WRs with who ever i'm not zone-blitzing Brady with. if we flood the middle, to make him get the ball out sooner than he'd like, we have to cover the screen/flat passes that can break the Pats are a mismatch problem for any D, and know going into any game, that their opponent is going to try to bring pressure up the middle and disrupt Brady's receivers - but that has to be our first priority. we have to win the los between their tackles - everything works off of that. so yeah - Peppers and the rest of the coaches will have to plan a coordinated effort.
  19. good point.. hoping Searcy's up to whatever the gameplan is. he looked pretty banged up, and the Duke was a bit sketchy. but i'm thinking a Schwartz will figure something out - but i never thought of that angle - so thanks
  20. is this what a drunk text looks like? cool. just don't be drivin'
  21. pound for pound, the toughest guy on the team.. our fiercest competitor - week after week i feel for the guys that draw Freddie in nutcrackers
  22. i'm sorry - and i really am sorry to say this - but in EJ's case, i believe it's the one obstacle the coaches just couldn't get past, and it's the attribute that was going to divide the squad. maybe if the Buffalo press had the balls to ask the right questions, it would all be out there in black and white.. but if you've ever been around any team sports, all you gotta do is read between the lines to get the picture hey, John from Hemet, NOW I'LL MOVE THE F ON!
