it began when Marrone was offered the job of bringing his innovative, uptempo offense to the Bills .. Marrone and Hackett were eager to take responsibility for installing their O, and grooming Fitzpatrick's replacement. They happily explained their hybrid, K-Gun / West Coast offense to the media and then patiently waited for players that could execute their wonderful system but after two seasons, it was evident the players they needed weren't coming - in fact - some were leaving! so Marrone decded he'd just ask for more time, and more players - to get it right but the FO didn't think that another couple years would help Marrone fix the mess this made Marrone very sad until he remembered he could exercise an option to take 4 million dollars, and run as far and as fast from Buffalo as he could so it was "Adios Muthafuggers!!"

Lotta good stuff there,.. nice job

another bulletin from the guys in 'analytics' - Hackett will stay, but his hours will be cut so the Obamacare employer mandate doesn't kick in.. damn! these guys leave no stone unturned..

EJ Manuel. Our next star quarterback
BackInDaDay replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
EJ was picked to be the next great read/option QB that could keep plays alive with his legs and strong arm. Marrone was gonna install Hackett's hybrid K-gun/WCO offense, and the O was gonna run the D this way and that, and when the smoke cleared - we'd be up 2 or 3 scores before the half. then reality set in. the game's too fast for the kid QB and his receivers.. they're running routes like they we in the street, and EJ has no clue where to go with the ball. then he gets hurt. and then returns to the same issues he left Lewis and Tuel to deal with. so now it's time to dumb it all down.. slow things up even more.. tie EJ's footwork together with the routes, coach him up to understand what looks the D is giving him, and hope the combination of knowing who is #1 and #2 are, and the mechanics of both QB and receivers result in him getting the ball out in a timely fashion. doesn't work. EJ makes poor choices.. receivers run too many sloppy routes.. and the wonder boy OC can't get into his playbook. the kid never ran a timed passing game in college.. i read some of the articles coming out FSU from their beat writers, their fan base, and their coach regarding what they could, and couldn't run with EJ. this offense would have to be reworked into that vertical Erhardt/Perkins offense another TBDer posted a while back.. i think the Steelers still use that as their offensive philosophy.. maybe whaley was hoping to see some big Ben's excapability in EJ.. i dunno - but he never had the skill set to run what they have now.. it's too complex.. even if Hackett could get it oiled up everywhere else - the QB has to deliver the ball on time to those horizontal routes intended to stretch things wide for vertical options.. Downing should take him to a small clearing in the woods - put three grad assistants at various distances from him - in the trees, but not hidden - all within 90 degrees of each other - tell him to chop out a couple 360s - and depending on if he shouts 'short', 'half' or 'long' - he's gotta find the right kid and zip it in to him. just an old-timey drill to simulate lateral motion and gaining focus. don't laugh (too load ) using the woods was always a good place to drill QBs and receivers.. George Sauer, Jr swore it gave him the coordination needed to catch balls in traffic later in life. -
okay.. okay.. but do you guys have to keep repeating that? some words do hurt, ya know.. maybe we need some sensitivity training here on TBD, to help you awful Marrone supportors understand what the rest of us are going through right now..

there ya go... yo lo in o hi o -
just heard the guys in 'analytics' have decided to remove at least 1 crapper from all the men's rooms at OBD, and install 2 urinals for each they remove. their studies have shown that the volume of kool-aid being swallowed at headquarters warrants the change..

now hand him over to defensive coaches Henderson and Pagac, and let them teach him how to 'front' the likes of Gronk in the open field. just stay in the passing lane and make that pass harder to complete.. -

Current situation makes little sense. Where is this going?

sounds like the first seal of the apocalypse has been opened.. "And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer." foretelling the rise of the Anti-Kelly in Buffalo.. Jay Cutler's on his way, this cinches it. +2 -
Cutler's the sexy choice for owners and the president, and he's got the skill to rescue Marrone and Hackett's offense. if we have Cutler to begin the year, we'll win enough games to make a run at the division crown, the playoffs, and beyond. he'll fuss and pout and show up both his OC and receivers when sloppy design and execution dooms a play from the start, and then he'll make Antipholus and Dromio heros when he executes their half-assed gameplans better than they could imagine. hell.. he might even be the anti-Kelly that Marv Levy reportedly (A. Schefter) has nightmares about. i'm tellin ya.. he's on his way, boys.. he's on his way.

thanks, CBF.. i wasn't thinking in terms of our freinds to the north, but you make a lot of sense.. i was, however, referring to Russ's ability to always add some hopeful wrinkle to an upcoming season - something to stir up all the fans -
somebody thought trading up for Sammie was a good idea. somebody must have convinced somebody that their young QB could get him the ball enough to be a difference maker somebody must have offered his experienced opinion regarding Kujo's worth as a lineman the need to absolve Marrone of his role in these things is bewildering. he was given enough offensive talent score more points that he did. it's simple. he failed. i hope he succeeds in year 3, but i don't think he will unless he realizes that he cannot design and adjust an NFL offense on his own. i really don't think that's going to happen. i think he's going to ride a wave of adoration for delivering a 9-7 record to the poor, pathetic, Buffalo Bills straight to similar record next season - unless the FO drapes him in superior talent. i'm tellin ya - Cutler's on his way. he'll create a huge off-season buzz, sell tons of tickets, and if he doesn't play like a stud QB - the next failed season has another scapegoat.
-
yep, guess what the 'consensus' is now..

i envy your ability to dismiss the fact that the only unit that Marrone hasn't improved - is the the unit he was hired to improve.. i certainly respect your optimism.. and i think most Bills fans are - at heart - very tolerant, optimistic folks. it's just that some of us are, well, frustrated by what we believe were squandered opportunities this year, and we place the blame for these squandered opportunities on the head coach and OC - the men who failed to develop an offense that could of helped the other two units get more than one game over .500 and get into the tourney. this is our curse - our gut feeling that the same offensive specialists who couldn't get it figured out in 2 years time, are not going to suddenly get it right in 2015.. and being powerless to effect any change that will keep us from another dissappointing year, we default to bitching like schoolgirls about what was wasted and by who.. then we speculate on what these knuckleheads need to succeed - because in our eyes - they already had enough. it's messed up. we're probably more fanatical than Islamic fundamentalists

Marrone/Whaley season ending PC today @3PM

just putting this out there.. KO may have had his bell rung at some point preceding all those odd reactions to potential contact. anyone who's ever been on queer street knows your first reaction is to cover up. -
oddly enough, Marrone was hired because he was able to take what he learned from Peyton in the big easy, and create an 'innovative' fast-paced offense at Syracuse that brought them to a four way co-championship (2012) of the now-defunct big east conference. edit - am i leaving anything out?

Russ has survived a long time in buffalo by selling the next big thing. 15 straight seasons of players, coaches, and general managers that couldn't build one team capable of finishing at least 6th in their conference. how in the world does he do it? -

never said it would work out, only that it's a bit similar situation - bringing in a vet slinger to sell playoff hopes. one thing he has going for him are his experience running Shanahan's west coast offense before wearing ouut his welcome in Denver -

basically the same.. i see. i wonder if our opponents defensive coverages were 'basically the same' after each 1st half, this season.
