He sure has more experience and success as a NFL HC than any of the young NFL coordinators, whose names are being tossed around as potential HC candidates. If Pegula is crazy enough to risk disturbing the bedrock of the Bills new found success by upsetting the team's existing eco-system, there should be some concerned folks in Pennsylvania.. just sayin..

yep.. stay away from guys who won't take on risk because failure tarnishes the perception of their past accomplishments.. screw these rocking chair generals.. If Pegula hasn't already, he and Whaley should have a cordial meal at a local bistro, where they can share their short and long term goals for the team - and try to forge a shared vision on how to attain them. if Pegula and Whaley can get it all straight, then there's no need for additional opinions - especially from guys like Polian, who are comfortably numb.

i don't want another HC who'll learn at the team's expense. we are ready to get into the playoffs next season if our offense can become average.. AVERAGE!!! we need Schwartz, Pepper and an OC that can - assist the Whaley in rebuilding our O-line - install a vertical passing game for our QBs and receivers - install a stretch running game for our RBs add one freakin guy to OC! that's all we need! this is so freakin simple that i can't believe some of you want to risk wasting another 3 years with the next Mularkey, Williams, or Marrone. PROMOTE THE COACHES RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BEST SEASON IN 10 YEARS!!!

i don't believe anyone taught Wilson to trust his instincts ex-HC Tom Cable - who teaches courses on zone blocking schemes, built the O-line the POP that resuscitated Urban Meyers R/O in the pro game came from Malzahn to Carroll the screen and sweep packages that are layered into the pro game came from guys like Kelly,Malzahn, Briles, etc.. he hasn't done jack on his own, and we're in no position to see if he's got the chops to even coordianate an offense that needs rebuilding. you think Cable's gonna come to coach our line? i don't know what some of you guys are smokin.. but enough with these "Hansel - he's so hot right now' candidates for head coach.. the fact that a defensive peer of Schwartz is being considered as HC really, really concerns me. hopefully this is just Brandon throwing red herrings to the media to make it appear they're considering more possibilities than they actually are - all, so Schwartz's agent doesn't fleece them. it's very simple.. all we have to do is: keep our D intact and moving forward by naming Schwartz HC hire a new OC to design an O that can leverage a strong armed QB, and the speed we already have at our skill positions

Recall how Denver churned out 1000 yard RBs running outside zone ? Seeing how Lynch has torn it up in the same scheme? If we could tweek our line to be capable of stretching defenders out to create cut back lanes, and Spiller were coached up - like Lynch had to be - to make that one cut upfield.. his speed adds a real scary element it. We need an OC who can rebuild our offense with the variety of skill pieces we have, and making Spiller disappear may have been Yogi and BooBoo's worst tricks

the offensive coordinator owns the O - every aspect of it. when they watched film, and saw the comedy of errors - it was on Hackett and Hilliard to clean it up. but if the misunderstandings that plagued his receivers were symptomatic of an offense that was conceptually flawed - it was on Marrone to figure out where the real issue was. i actually gave him the benefit of the doubt this year - thinking, maybe Hilliard was being stubborn or ignorant, and rather than drag him thu the mud, Marrone quietly let him go. so i was anxious to see if bringing in Rob Moore was going to have an effect on the Xs & Os of the passing game. even after EJ was benched, there were receivers not gaining the proper depths on their routes, etc. i was so frustrated after one of our losses that i remarked how a team in wheelchairs could defend us. so yeah - started disliking Marrone when i thought he let Hilliard take the blame for the passing game.

like his schematics, but that up tempo stuff doesn't impress me at the pro level.. yeah, you're keeping the same 11 defenders on the field, but you're keeping you're same unit on, too.. and if the 11 defenders match up well enough and have a good idea of you're gameplan - see the Seahawks and Eagles last game - all you'll do is get off the field quicker. plus, you're trainer's gonna be working overtime to keep you're older, 'bigger' linemen in the game. bottom line, it creates stress on the O, as well as the D.

manning runs that offense - i think Hackett has more to offer than this kid. this hire would set the franchise back another 3 years

agree that was the the case there.. but was that the case here? here's the thing, by promoting Schwartz, we don't start from scratch.. all we do is get an OC that can get better production from who we already have, and work with the GM on improving that where possible. we're in fantastic shape on the defensive side of the ball, so the last thing we should do is jeopardize what may be an elite NFL defense next season.

yes.. i like what Trestman accomplished last year with McCown.. he obviously doesn't need a big talent to get results. as far my beloved outside zone running game, goes.. he'd have to revamp our line quite a bit, and i don't know if he has the passion for that .. but since there are more Alex Gibbs VHS tapes laying in the basements of American footbal coaches, than there are of Deep Throat - i'm guessing that finding an energetic young elephant herder shouldn't be too hard. honstly - i didn't know Koetter by name - but i just read he may be competing with Trestman for the Bucs open OC gig.. and yeah - that guy knows how to get the ball downfield - granted, he did have a QB that's more accurate than ours.. i don't know what his contract lloks like, but maybe McCown becomes available after the draft - that might make for a nice reunion for him and Trestman at St John Fischer this summer.. i'm not writing EJ off, but these two ahve proven to be a capable duo - and all we need is to take advantage of some of the field position our D gives us to post more wins.. the better the O - the farther we go! there's Russ's new promo

last season.. after watching our receivers running sloppy routes, and dragging defenders into each others routes - he threw receivers coach Ike Hilliard under the bus, rather than own up to the fact that all this took place on Hackett's watch.

Shanahan's a good choice, but i still think EJ's career is savlagable in a system that limits the need to hit receivers coming out of their break - and Shanahan's timed passing game would demand that. now on the positive side, the man knows how to install the zone blocking running game that i covet for the Bills. so there's that.. and his seasons in DC have shown him and the rest of the league that the read option should only be taken in doses - but he did have it working for awhile - and that's pretty good for an older coach... shows he keeps his head in the game.. if he were willing to teach our strong armed QBand gifted receivers how to exploit defenses by going north and south, and limit the need to throw precision passes, yeah - i'd like that. the only other concern would be how any HC signing impacts our D and our DC. those guys are close to being elite, and i'd bring in a HS coach with a good head on his shoulders to coordinate our O, before doing anything to upset that side of the ball.

promote Schwartz to HC, and Johnson to DC.. then find an OC who'll work with the GM to meet the following 2015 goals: develop an offensive line that can move laterally and reach their second level assignments develop an outside zone running game layer read option, play option pass, screen and sweep packages into the outside zone game develop a vertical passing game based on running from coverage - not timing layer play option pass, and screen packages into the vertical passing game we have skill position players on the roster that many teams would covet, and we've squandered them. we need to simplify the reads for both EJ and our receivers in the vertical passing game, to allow them to use their athleticism to make plays.. give them more smash and hi-lo vertical concepts instead of the horizontal timing routes they've had problems with. we need the OC to stay on top of his position coaches, to insure they're being drilled to the point that there's no doubt what their responsibility is each play find me the guy to do that - and has no problem answering to his HC - and it's a start

Bevel's good at coordinating the whole ball of wax for Seattle.. and if you like him, you should like the innovative concepts he's having success with - including a nice dose of r/o, and hanging the pass option off it - which Carroll got from Auburn. I don't see them much, but i think the r/o and pop are just tools in the toolbox. I think their offensive success is all about Cable's zone blocking schemes, and getting Lynch to buy into becoming the one-cut back they needed. All that lateral movement takes defenders away from some of the other things they do, without Lynch. I agree with you about 'featuring' the r/o in the pros.. but if you're old enough - you might remember when Landry's Cowboys were the poster boys for innovation. Edit. By the way.. I don't want Malzahn as HC.. but I want his attention to detail at the OC spot.

the Seahawks won last year and are ready to repeat, and the are as innovative as it gets. they continue to run some read option behind their zone blocking schemes, and this year Carroll added Malzahn's POP (play option pass) to the read option - and it's killer. Marrone and Hackett were running some of the same things at Syracuse when they rebuilt their O in year 4, and they had great success with it. they just tried to put too many things together at once with the Bills, and then had to cheery pick what could work with what QB. add to that, what seems like a good portion of inexperience in handling in-game adjustments - and you get what we got. glimpses, but too much inconsistency. i get the idea of having a smash mouth running game with a vertical passing game - but the two aren't mutually exclusive. they are complimetary.
