The Seahawks did something i did not think possible
BackInDaDay replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
you might be right.. but he if he meant to trash Revis, i didn't get that message.. either way, i agree with the majority here in their opinion that both teams are hard to root for.. -
i said i liked it.. and it's certainly not 'dumb' or 'stupid' to attempt to run something they've worked hard at perfecting the timing of. Browner blew it up.. and had the coach anticipated that, he would have been brilliant. could thay have pounded it in for a score - probably.. but how 'dumb' or 'stupid' would Bevell look if they couldn't get in?
-
i hear ya.. but this play is not being argued as 'risky', but as 'stupid' the fact that a good play - that's has worked so well that the Pats were prepared for it - couldn't be executed well enough to work as designed had everything to do with the Kearse/Browner matchup at the LOS - nothing else. if Kearse wins that battle, Butler's not there. knowing it's coming, and stopping it, are two different things.. Bevell thought it could work, even with Browner pressing Kearse.. he was wrong.

how's it 'weird' when Sherman's pointing at the scoreboard, after flashing - 2 4? Collingsworth has his moments, but so do posters to TBD. -
i believe the Pats were ready for it, because the Hawks ran it successfully during the season out of their goal line package. Bevell's (and Wilson's) mistake was underestimating the impact Browner could have on the play. not a stupid call at all, just a play that couldn't be executed well against that coverage.. had they used that same formation - along with Lockette's flattened out first step to fake the inside slant, and send Butler racing inside - this thread would be about how brilliant Bevel was to get Lockette wide open in the corner. but yeah.. Bevell was obviously wrong in thinking they could execute the play 'as is', but had Kearse out-muscled Browner to get the inside depth needed to cut off Butler - Lockette scores standing up.

maybe, but it looks like he's gesturing to the scoreboard to me.. i certainly wouldn't have expressed an inflammatory opinion regarding his actions - as Collingsworth did - based on that. but he's less of a 'color' man, than he is a 'tabloid' reporter - so i guess it's expected. http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-super-bowl/0ap3000000467335/Sherman-calls-out-Revis -
Head Coach Candidate: Darrell Bevell
BackInDaDay replied to LA Grant's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
nothing wrong with that call - other than it not being a Lynch run, as many - in hindsight - believe should have been the call .. Browner makes the play by keeping Kearse from getting depth to keep Butler from jumping the route.. and if Lockette was 'stronger to the ball' - that's 6. one of many reasons i can't stand watching games called by Collingsworth. -

Seahawks are a physical team that feeds off each other.. lots of trash talk and celebrating individual plays keep them up.. but to be fair to Sherman, i believe his flashing "2" "4" was pointing out his team's points, as he gestured to the scoreboard immediately after. this is one of the reasons i seem to be the minority of fans who think Collingsworth is a bad 'color' man -
"like a dog on the corner, who can't raise his head, he settles for lifting his leg instead" ~ danny o'keefe aggression in response to fear is a survival tool that's hard to outgrow without help.. and it's in the best interest of the NFL to keep such help at a distance.. the 'brand' can tolerate the occasional instance of a player taking his sociopathic behaviour to the streets, as long as the majority of madness manifests itself as contolled violence on gameday. when Lynch hangs up his cleats, I hope he gets the help he needs.. whatever that may be..

i'll post this in every 'Hackett was a good OC' thread, until that drum stops beating.. he, and Marrone, were incapable of getting even average offensive production from average to above-average players. neither of them know why they failed, so it's no surprise that neither of them can adequately express what they've learned from their failure in their interviews. good luck to them both.. they'll need it.

i don't think it's either.. they know we have to watch. it's our game, played by the best among us. it's unfortunate that our best must play in the NFL - a corrupt business that dishonors our game their 'product' is unmatched in the world, because it's one of a kind.. and it's one of a kind, because it's comprised of the best of us.. the best of millions of american men who have gathered to play, coach and cheer the game on thousands of fields across our country - for generations. we are the game. we conceive it each hot july on pop warner practice fields; nurture it on cool autumn friday night high school fields; and mature it on cold winter saturday afternoon college fields.. we honor the game by giving everything we've got to it, knowing that the most we'll ever get back from it, is whatever respect our efforts earned that day.. and that's more than enough to keep us coming back. i guarantee you, that these two teams would play for nothing on your local high school field, if that was the only place they had to prove who was the champion. you may begin to play this game for your father, or for your sweetheart, or for money - but to play it well, and play it best, it has to be played for respect.. for honor. the league seeks to hide dishonorable events, because it's caretakers fear their 'product' may be perceived as dishonorable.. and they're right.. because their 'product' has no honor - it's a brand they've put on our game.. the fact that a handful of men find themselves fortunate enough to be in a position to squeeze out every last drop of our love for the game into their pockets, is disturbing.. we all sense their slimy touch, and we can only hope that when the whistle blows, they haven't infected our game - a game played for honor - with their dishonorable connivances

i could cut him some slack, if i was sure our lack of commitment to forging an offensive identity was due to his trying to appease Marrone's pleas for throwing a mixed bag of concepts against the wall until something stuck - but he was complicit in the offensive failures. he just wasn't good enough to salvage any piece of the successful system he and Marrone brought with them from Syracuse. not one piece. we couldn't run. we couldn't throw. we squandered opportunities we didn't adjust all we got were glimpses of what our offense was capable of doing, until an opponent began defending it. god bless Freddie J. - but i just hope he can remain healthy enough this season to enjoy playing under a professional staff.

Can Lee really help make EJ a quality NFL QB?
BackInDaDay replied to gjv001's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i'm hoping the combination of EJ's promise to go down swinging, and an offense that can get his 1st and 2d options open more often than not, will result in good things.. sounds like Lee and Roman, and even Comer, will try to fit the system around EJ - and whoever else they pick up - to make that happen.. they have one big advantage going into this year.. Marrone and Hackett showed them what they don't have in EJ, and it would be a waste of everyone's time trying to prioritize the failed 'pocket passer' development plan.. if he's productive enough, in whatever they design, that he earns the starting spot - who knows.. maybe he'll eventually develop into the all-round talent Roman was trying to achieve with Kap.. but first things first.. build the system.. beginning with the O line and running game.. then incorporate the QB into the run game.. then work on the O line and the passing game, and incorporate the QB into that. like all of us, i'm really pulling for the kid, and if they don't get too cute - i think this staff can get his best.. he sounds like he's ready to fight for the job.. we'll see -
you da man, Bandit! only got through Cann and Harrison, but i like Cann alot more.. stays active, and aggressive until the whistle, and seems to play lower.. they don't pull him in that tape, but he's pretty quick to his inside on runs, and looks good when asked to get downfield.. looking forward to checking out the rest of the herd.. thanks, again!

Bandit's 2015 Draft Report - QBs

solid mechanics..that compact, past the earhole delivery comes right up his right leg. if he was a fighter, he'd have his fair share of KOs. -
that first clip is a good example how to defend the outside zone.. the C original assignment playside is to combo the DT with the LG, and let the LG climb to the LB91. the shift confused the LG, but unlike the author - i think he should have left the DT to the C and RG, and gone right at LB91 - the RG could have climbed to LB54. but that shift allowed the RDE to swap edge force with LB91, and slash inside. on the backside, i also don't know why the RG didn't head playside - combo the NT and clean up LB54 - who was tracking untouched along the LOS. all in all - a good play for the D,or just sloppy by the O.. in the second clip the D didn't shift. the NT sat in a 2 tech where the LG was able to combo him with the C, before getting after LB91. the RDE again slashed across the LT - this time giving edge force to DB23. and this time the RG did head playside - adding to the interference (does anyone still use that term? ) that forced LB54 to track it deeper. a good play for the O. the last 2 clips are also very well executed. i wonder what the Pats read in clip 1 that made them shift? because after that first one, the LG was perfect. now let me ask you.. do you think we have a guard on our current roster who could get after 2nd level guys like that LG? i'm less concerned with our tackles, but i'd love to get a heads up on your favorite collegiate guards so i can look 'em up, and act like i been following them since freshman year

ANYONE ELSE HAVE SYMPATHY FOR HACKETT?
BackInDaDay replied to BillAndPhilFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
absolutely - he never threw anyone under the bus.. he may have to tighten things up in how he goes about preparation, but he's young and his passion for the game's been there since he was carrying the 49er's equipment as a boy. -
NFL needs to modify OT rules in playoffs
BackInDaDay replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i'm fine with the OT rules, but i'd add a little wrinkle - "if the Buffalo Bills are participating, play will continue until they lead." -
Why isn't Jim Schwartz hired yet?
BackInDaDay replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
no young DC hired as a HC is going to hire him no current HC, who's afraid of hiring his own replacement, is going to hire him need a situation where the existing HC needs to fill the DC spot, and is secure enough to hire an ex-HC on his staff - maybe Carroll.. they both share a dislike for Harbaugh.. -
