  1. I recall reading that Rex wasn't going to give him help against Carolina, and i think it was the Steelers game where he was going to throw more complex coverages at them to see how the entire unit responded. i have no confidence in Darby being ready for this. eventually Rex will learn what Schwartz learned - that defenders downfield mixed with a strong pass rush force QBs into mistakes and sacks. here's hoping he doesn't learn the hard way, as he is dedicated to his brand of D.
  2. yeah.. thanks.. i think being that Schwartz was content with letting our front 4 bring pressure, i doubt there were many times our safeties weren't giving help - but i'm not going to argue because i don't have game film, and i can't recall. i just have my impressions of him the last few years, and my impression is he ran hot and cold. but i'm sure hoping you're right and i'm wrong, because we know Rex is gonna ask alot from both our corners
  3. yep - he started a lot of games his last 5 years for both the G-men and Ravens. i also like veterans LB Andy Studebaker and CB Will Blackmon and yes, i think we could do worse than carry Thad Lewis as our #3 - if they want that many. he's a playmaker who can make them for either team
  4. Not a big Gilmore fan. I think he better than average, but not a shutdown CB.. Hopefully he steps up or gets helps with the Jets' Marshall, Miami's Jennings, Pats' Wayne, Cowboys' Bryant, and Giants' Beckham.. and guys i may have missed who we'll play this year. These guys are as good at what they do, as Gilmore is at covering. edit - Wayne just asked for his release from Pats, so at least he wont have him visiting 'the island'
  5. just another potential Pulitzer candidate ruined by the devastating 'sucktitude syndrome".. there should be a telethon.
  6. yeah.. that's why
  7. i used to hear exchanges like this when i tended bar.. god, i don't miss those days!
  8. nice to see buffalo media reporting the news, rather than predicting it
  9. good fit
  10. Hokie gave us this link.. somewhere and it appears up to date http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000518343/article/nfl-roster-cuts-tracker so.. where's that Sign Thad Lewis thread?!
  11. Cowboys released this guy - got a good write-up in July as a possible C/G swing man http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/2015/07/09/rookie-watch-experienced-center-mcdermott-eyes-backup-line-spot edit. mentioned because the Cowboys have a great O line, and hanging on until now in their camp might mean something to a less fortunate depth chart
  12. did we sign Lewis yet?
  13. recently released Thad Lewis might be a better fit in this O than either Cassel or Tebow edit.. guess i'll wait for the topic to hit the wall

  15. not likely.. EJ was a broken young QB in a broken offensive system. Marrone couldn't wait for Hackett to fix both, so he threw Orton at the problem. the HC's motivation may be questioned, but his decision left Manuel the opportunity to right his personal ship.. which, from the looks of things, he's been doing
  16. Kelly would have kept Tebow over Cassel. it doesn't make Tebow the better pro-style pocket passing QB. it just makes him the better fit.. there.. but not here. Cassel may be our square peg, but he can still get the ball downfield more consistently than Tebow.
  17. my concern is that a higher power may have already made this choice for all of us.. years ago.
  18. make them numbers dance, you spin doctor, you!
  19. bingo.. this appears to have been a carefully crafted process to succeed in the court of popular opinion, yet fail in actual court. the only advise coming from our D to Tom, is to be careful what you ask for.
  20. i love Fred as a football player, but i have to think his value to Roman was decreased when Taylor was named the starter over Manuel, and especially, Cassel. with less need for a savvy pass_protector/safety_valve guy, the feeling may have been that the other guys could hit the inside stuff harder, and get to the edge quicker. not sure if whaley isn't taking one for the team, here.
  21. excerpt from http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profiles/ronald-darby?id=2552689that sound accurate, but they also list strengths that contradict his weaknesses.. so get the grain of salt ready.. WEAKNESSES Susceptible to inside releases, with feet stuttering before transitioning to close distance on loose receiver. Like teammate P.J. Williams, he must learn to play without so much grabbing downfield. Needs improvement with back to ball. Anxious to stay on top of route from press and opens door for comebacks underneath. Will occasionally lose track of his man in scramble situations. Not a hitter. Scouts question his toughness. Will get muscled by bigger receivers. Ducks head as tackler and prefers to hit with helmet over wrapping up against running backs.
  22. Taylor and Manuel can both stretch the D vertically. Taylor can also stretch it horizontally. like a lot of medium armed pocket passers, Cassel threatens no one.
  23. Fred Jackson - locker room cancer..
  24. preseason gives sideline crews an opportunity to synchronize their slide step
  25. goodbye and good luck to the best player on the field, year after year - for many, many years
