  1. i'm probably not the only one who saw other players slipping on the surface yesterday.. we shouldn't have such issues on our home field.. if footing is going to be problematic from game to game, this must be identified and solutioned prior to warm-ups - not kick-offs - and certainly prior to game action.
  2. with the DB angling in to Watkins from the outside, and the LB angling out to Watkins from the inside, Manuel threw to the safest spot where Watkins could receive the ball with little effort to adjust. If Watkins doesn't slip, he makes an easy two step adjustment to the ball and catches it chest high.
  3. lots of fast kids can run and catch a football, but that doesn't make them football players. i've yet to see any fire in Sammy's game.. even when he's healthy enough to compete.
  4. we're less organized and disciplined than our better opponents, yet our roster has talented players who should be able to compete intelligently and with focus. Ryan used to be a brilliant defensive coach, but he was never much of a head coach. his teams always seemed to come up short. now, i'm beginning to think his defenses have become the victim of their own success.. in a copycat league, his exotic blitz packages and coverage schemes no longer surprise good coaches. maybe the league has passed him by... and if he can't coach D, he has nothing else to offer.
  5. our O isn't being helped by ST or D.. this has been a field possession game just like Giant game.. Rex's coverage schemes are coordinated with pressure, and his pressure isn't effective
  6. unless we answer, our D will implode with Unsportsmanlikes on the next Cincy drive
  7. Cincy will show more man looks on our WRs - freeing up their safeties to compress our TE's routes and limit the room to work behinfd their LBs, and help them contain the edge on McCoy. we're going to have to get our run game going between the tackles to widen the field
  8. you can't argue with that kind of deep rooted analysis!
  9. lots of young and healthy RBs around, the trick is finding one familiar with the system to lessen the learning curve.. geez.. 4 weeks in and we're running out 2nd and 3rd teamers already.. think i'll watch our third pre-season game to see some starters
  10. oh i agree that in the last couple seasons he's looked much better.. they threw alot of money at him because of that.. i'm just hoping him - and the rest of the unit can get on the same page consistently.. Rex's style of play presents new challenges, for sure
  11. Williams is a good competitor- but even on the play where he injured himself - he looked like a drunk in a revolving door
  12. Rex has been working on his defensive communication problems since preseason. The drop off from Searcy to Williams, Rambo, etc is far greater than that from Byrd to Searcy - and we've been exposed.
  13. here's a fan with their finger on the pulse.. in regard to the OP, i'm gonna cut Roman some slack on what he could do without two very big pieces of his O. not having to account for the threat of Watkins and McCoy, coupled with some very poor field position, allowed Spags some freedom in committing his corners to support the edge because they had help over the top. that helps not there if Watkins is playing, and as much as i like the new kid, he can't cut back through pursuit like McCoy casn. the one play Roman did eventually go to the well with were those Clay drags across and out. kind of surprised they kept working considering he may have been priority #1.
  14. thanks Rog, for getting up so early to look into this. must have been a long night spinning that blown call in Seattle.
  15. what the hell does that quote mean? it doesn't sound like he's seeking advice on how to discipline his team, or even on how to approach the discussion of discipline with his team. this sounds like he's seeking advice on how far his players can go when dishing out verbal and physical abuse on refs and opponents during games. Rex never owns up to his deficiencies as a coach, which is why he repeats the same mistakes over and over.. i could care less about this guy, except now he's calling the shots for my team. "Our job is not to try to correct an issue we see or something we think and fix it ourselves. We can't do it. You have to line up the next play and do your job." ~ Ryan When you're players are embarrassing themselves and their uniform, it's your damn job to correct that - right then, right there.. yank the guy, before he causes more problems FOR THE TEAM! players should be free to express themselves TO THE COACH ON THE SIDELINE, period.. anything else buys a seat on the bench, or a shower.
  16. great points all around.. but we need to keep what the Giants did in context of the game.. their early success running moved the chains and put us on our heels.. the worst they accomplished in the first three quarters was keeping our O in terrible field position that they couldn't punch their way out of - for whatever reason. the Giants did just enough better than us in all three facets of the game to win. our mental mistakes in all three cost us considerably. this is all on the HC's ability to insist his units are ready to play. there's no point discussing the discipline issues we have -that's part of having Rex as your HC - but he has to gather the staff and reasses how they're preparing. for instance.. I'm a big fan of Roman, but sometimes bringing guys in cold off the bench to help execute a play as important as that 4th and goal, is asking for a breakdown. looking schematically sound on the board means diddly if it involves guys who don't have their heads in the game.. that's a tough ask..
  17. for those of us who live in the Jets market, Rex's response was no surprise. he still hasn't learned that a bully with a fat lip and a bruised ego isn't helped by empty declarations of "we'll get 'em next time". that's a cop out he disguises better than his best blitz. i was hoping he'd learned his lesson in NY, but apparently, he hasn't. as a Bills fan - who'll be a Bills fan when Rex is off declaring his new team to be the best ever - i'd much preferred he learned to knock off the tired hyperbole, reassess his weaknesses, and teach his 'bully' how to fight .
  18. i like our chances against any team that doesn't field a QB capable of recognizing where our pressure is coming from, and what we're exposing in order to bring it. Rex can coach D, but you're right about the need for his coverage people to be on the same page.. if that was your point.
  19. bingo! the ref had it in his head that we might retaliate, and made that call on what he thought was gonna happen - not what did happen. same kind of over-reach as an ump that runs a pitcher for throwing inside after a dust-up on the field
  20. teams will continue to get to the line quickly and spread us out until our LBs and DBs can execute coordinated coverage schemes without blowing assignments - specifically our safeties. opposing coaches are getting the personnel matchups they're looking for. and their opposing QBs are finding our mistakes. until Rex shores that up, his pressure packages that borrow men from coverage, won't get home. we haven't seen Kyle covering a RB on a wheel yet, but i'm kinda expecting it. just kidding.. it shouldn't get that bad.. but Rex really has to examine what he can do with this group right now, and adjust. i think he did a real good job last week and a decent job this week - until the wheels fell off in the 4th.. but that's his MO.. he's got to get his guys to tough it out and play consistant, focused football for 4 quarters when the opponent fights back
