  1. 3 passes - good pass rush from our entire line. mario's on a mission
  2. looks like EJ checked to that run to the right for the 1st off topic.. am i missing the 1st half game post?
  3. much better audio/video than a recycled .eu stream.. very little lag so far..
  4. i disagree with your disagreement.. but i agree with your assessment of his motivation. you see, planting one's head up one's ass is the ultimate self-defense against an overwhelming level of negative external simulation. in the world of celebrated film, recording, and sports stars - which includes very limited and transient sanctuaries to criticism - one's ass can offer seclusion and clarity of purpose, but too much time spent in such a self-indulgent retreat from the tasks at hand will eventually suffocate, rather than comfort. thus, i believe the proper course of action at this time, is for his head to be removed from his ass.
  5. the concept of being so bad at something, that one eminates a foul odor ithat transcends the senses, places this entire argument in the surreal environment of the sport psychologist, who might suggest that EJ needs to build mental muscle, with positive self-talk, goal-setting, body language, deep breathing, and visualization. simply translated from the spiritual vernacular, this is equitable to "getting your head out of your ass""
  6. it used to be a good business practice. to insure backward compatibility of new products and services for existing consumers to help develop brand loyalty. but when the product or service is proprietary, and the consumer is already heavily invested, corporations from Microsoft to Verizon to the NFL have proven that the consumer will begrudgingly set aside the obsolete for the new. I'll stick to my aforementioned plan to utilize hand puppets and bourbon to create my personal game day experience
  7. i'll just pay the neighborhood kids to try to act it out with hand puppets as i swill bad bourbon.. by the time i'm down to three fingers, i'll be screaming at the left hand for missing his block on the right hand. shouldn't be a big drop-off
  8. we have to get our right side of the line healthy.. we could absorb the loss of either Miller or Henederson with Urbik and Kujo, but both at the same time? i still think Roman will try to get our run game going, in order to enable EJ's play-action passes.. so, like Big Cat - i expect big formations first.. then maybe spreading out
  9. my 'hand wringing' days over the Bills are long gone, but i'd love to see them turn things around. from a pragmatic pov, i certainly hope Roman isn't planning on having "short fields" due to "4 or 5 turnovers".. i'd expect him to be ready to capitalize on that, but i'm thinking with limited personnel, he'll begin the game conservatively for his back-up QB. as far as EJ putting pressure on Tyrod.. that ship sailed when the pre-season ended.. but setting the competitive bar high at any position is always a good thing
  10. hopefully Roman doesn't get cute, and come out throwing, in anticipation of 9 in the box.. let them stop what you've just described before adjusting. from what i read about him - since the hire - i figured Roman would come to the park with multiple levels to his gameplan.. i haven't always seen that, but if he's 'as advertised' , this is the week to show it
  11. i hear ya.. Josh Johnson, eh? i'm thinking we try to keep EJ's uni clean..
  12. just curious.. who's backing up EJ? edit - not knocking EJ - hope he nails it.. but i'm thinking in terms of the Jags D honoring the threat of a read option, and whether Roman would feel comfortable calling it
  13. my point is, that Gilmore's technique did not compliment the blitz, and gave Dalton an immediate hot read. getting back to the original play design, Bradham's error in manning up to the H-back instead of passing him off to Darby while both Brown and FS Graham were blitzing, gave AJ Green an open middle and right side to run thru. Dalton released his throw to Jones as soon as he saw him inside Gilmore with Robey waiting on his TE. I agree that it took a nice throw to connect with Jones, but he could have easily thrown it 10 yards to Green and let him run for at least another 15-20. that's what Brady would have had the composure to do. we'll never be a championship defense with so many mental errors. with the popularity of spread attacks, these guys have been playing variations of cover 4 since HS. it's knowing your assignment, and taking responsibility.. it's doing your damn job. sorry, Coach - i must have been channeling Lou Saban again
  14. it was cover 4, but it wasn't well executed. we were in a 3-3-5, with Hughes playing out of a 3 point stance - so really, a 4-2-5. we blitzed Brown and Graham, while Dalton kept Bernard in for pass-protect. So, we were rushing 6 against 6. we had 5 men in coverage to their 4 in routes. the play was designed to force Bradham to trail AJ Green on a drag across the middle - from our left to right - but with both Brown and Graham blitzing the B gap on our right side, Dalton thought better than waiting for that to develop, and threw a strike to Jones running inside Gilmore with no immediate safety help. Yes, Duke got there eventually, but Jones had already split him and Gilmore. besides giving them that deep play, Bradham got away making their play design more effective when he chased the H-back through his clearing route from right to left (opposite Green's cross). doing that forced Darby to get a late start trailing Green. If Dalton knew that his RB was gonna take out both our blitzers, he might have waited for Green, who had 6 yards on Darby... but with his timer going off because of our blitz, and the sight of Jones running with good inside position on Gilmore - all he had to do was not underthrow it. Robey was the nickel next to Gilmore, but he was trailing the clearing route of the TE on our right- like the H-back, he was heading right to left. better communication may have let Robey help Gilmore cut off Jones, by passing his TE off to Duke... and if Bradham passed his H-back off to Darby, and chomped on Green's route.. and if either Brown or Graham stays on their feet... Dalton may have had to pull it down and take the sack. it starts with Gilmore's inconsistencies. he was 10 yards off Jones, and before he had a chance to run with him on his go route, he spun completely around to his right when Jones went inside to his left. for a split second he actually had his back to Jones. the more i see of this defense, the more i'm reminded of Ryan's comments in pre-season about having to get his coverage men talking to each other. this was not an exotic defense. we had Mario, Bryant, Kyle, and Hughes with their hands in the dirt, and tried to flood them with two more..no down linemen dropped into coverage.. we simply made mistakes, while the offense executed. btw - i tried to upload a screen shot to illustrate what i've described, but i can't get it done.
  15. Terry may have plans to collect all the gas that many years of crappy football has produced under Buffalo.. the last 15 years have made the ground beneath the Ralph a primary source
  16. sorry Rex.. but there's no need to be deceptive when your front 4 is effective against 5 or 6 men. you're right.. it's not about sacks.. it's about having more capable personnel in coverage while your front 4 keeps at least 5 or 6 in the box. you can really throw a blanket out there with 7 men who can turn and run. get the league's most elite D line upfield!
  17. the frustration is climbing.. beside the instruction to drop into coverage, they're also lining him up inside (as a 3tech DT) on occasion - including the Bengals second TD (16 yard run) where Mario pinched down on OC with Dareus at NT, and Bengals pulled their left side past Mario's left to create an alley through Bradham and Lawson. before this play executed, Dareus and others checked more than once with Brown on their alignment. this D system is nothing like the D they played last season, and patience is thinning.
  18. oh bother.. when the banjos get queued up, it's time to get outta dodge!
  19. we used to call this look the 'polecat', and it looks like some coaches have designed multiple options into it. this coach is calling the old Swinging Gate the Tiger Screen.. http://dscreationsgregorydouble.homestead.com/Tiger_Polecat_Formation.ppt it's intent is to get yards, not to lure the D into a "too many men" penalty as the Colts drew it up - that's the worst part of their plan.. that and the fact that their 5 interior linemen weren't on the LOS.
