  8. Did Miami GM reveal draft direction? Posted: Friday April 18, 2008 07:25AM ET In a classic and comedic moment during a 25-minute news conference Thursday, Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland made an unintended slip-up that caused quite a debate about whether he had just accidentally revealed some seriously secretive information. The question was innocent, an inquiry about how Ireland views a player's accomplishments in college compared with his upside in the future. ''Of course I want guys who have great upside -- this is the first pick in the draft,'' Ireland said. ``This guy is going to be, you hope he's a pillar of your defense for a long time. Of course you hope he's going to have upside. The economics to me . . .'' Ireland stopped mid-sentence, looking over at two reporters who were smiling about what they thought they just heard. Ireland gave the reporters a curious smirk of his own. ''Defense?'' one of the reporters said. Did he really just accidentally reveal Miami's plans to draft a defensive player, likely either Chris Long or Vernon Gholston? Miami Herald
  9. Source: Urlacher asks for trade Posted: Friday April 18, 2008 06:13AM ET One league source says Brian Urlacher's agents have asked the team if they could explore a trade. Another says Urlacher is threatening to retire because of neck and back problems, a move in which he wouldn't have to repay any portion of the $13 million signing bonus he received in 2003, when he received a nine-year, $56.65 million deal. 13. EVANS UPDATE: Bills COO Russ Brandon gave an update on Lee Evans' long term status with the club beyond this the final year of his rookie contract. “We take a hard look at that, from the standpoint of how we go about building this roster short and long term," said Brandon. "Lee is a core player in this organization and we want him to be here for many years to come. We will be proactive in looking at not only Lee’s situaition but other players we identify. That’s the way we feel we can continue to build this good young roster and having core players.'' ---

  15. Herschel played Russian roulette Posted: Tuesday April 15, 2008 05:35AM ET Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker once played Russian roulette with a loaded pistol as he struggled with a personality disorder. "To challenge death like I was doing, you start saying, there's a problem here," he said during an interview to be broadcast Monday night on ABC's "Nightline." Walker, a former Dallas Cowboy, suffers from dissociative identity disorder, formerly known as multiple personality disorder. His experiences are chronicled in his book, "Breaking Free," which is released this week. The 46-year-old Walker was a star running back at Georgia and in the pros. He says he had the condition during his playing days but didn't realize it. He doesn't remember winning the Heisman in 1982 or darker events, such as threatening his then-wife. Walker has been in treatment for eight years but doesn't take medication. He believes he has improved greatly. Dallas Morning News

  18. April 10, 2008 Posted By: Chris Brown | Time: 12:38 PM ET | Link SIX INVITED TO NFL DRAFT: Six NFL prospects have been invited to the NFL Draft. They are Matt Ryan, Jake Long, Chris Long, Vernon Gholston, Glenn Dorsey and Darren McFadden. The guy already being pegged to slip is ironically Matt Ryan, the guy that was thought to have a shot of being first off the board a couple of months ago. Quarterbacks are the most popular and most missed on first round picks so it's not surprising. It'll be interesting to see if anyone turns down the invite like Cleveland's Joe Thomas did last year. He went out fishing instead. ---
  19. TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello is reporting that the fourth season of “Lost” – originally set for 16 episodes, then cut back to 13 thanks to the writers’ strike – might end up with 14 hours after all. 4.9, the next new episode, is currently slated to air April 24, two weeks from Thursday. Read all of Ausiello’s story on the matter here.

  22. Today Posted By: Chris Brown | Time: 4:43 PM ET | Link DOLPHINS NEGOTIATING WITH JAKE LONG'S AGENT: According to the Miami Herald, the Dolphins have begun negotiations on a contract for OT Jake Long, making him the current favorite to be the top pick in the draft. The agent for Long is also the agent for Matt Ryan, but it's believed Miami is less interested in Ryan with the top pick. Just because the team is negotiating with Long's representation doesn't mean it's a lock because negotiations can break down, but it's a strong indiciation for sure. Apparently there has been no such contact between Miami and DE Chris Long, who is projected in many mock drafts to be the Dolphins' pick. ---
