  1. Butler and Reed closer By Chris Brown - Posted November 12th, 2008 Brad Butler was taking first team reps at right guard at the beginning of practice Wednesday. Butler has missed the last three games with a sprained MCL. I think his chances are decent to be ready for the Monday night game. Josh Reed is not practicing with his teammates, but was doing work on the side with the trainers and looked pretty limber driving off his ankle. If he can practice by Friday he should have an outside chance of playing. Not practicing however, was James Hardy. Aaron Schobel was also not practicing and it looked as though Langston Walker was limited as well. Whitner is obviously not 100 percent as he is not using his arms to reach up to catches footballs and is likely working on a non-contact basis. But he did line up with the first team defense at the start of practice. We’ll find out how likely or unlikely it is that he’ll play on Monday night. Personally I think he’s a long shot, but you know Whitner being a Cleveland native really wants to play in this one. We’ll see what Dick Jauron says in his afternoon press conference at 2:30pm. 2. Fox provides versatility By Chris Brown - Posted November 12th, 2008 Adding Dustin Fox to the practice squad was a good move. I asked Dick Jauron if he was comfortable with just four cornerbacks on his active roster on Monday. He said he was, but that they’d keep looking. Fox was one of the last men trimmed from the roster. I’d be willing to be he was player #54 or #55 back in early September. I was just surprised he wasn’t carried on the practice squad from the beginning of the season. Nothing against Fox, but I thought the Bills might take a closer look at more of a pure cornerback like Fernando Bryant, who signed with Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Fox is more of a hybrid DB. Of course if they signed Bryant they’d have to make a 53-man roster move immediately since he’s not practice squad eligible. Makes no difference now. I just like the fact that they have someone in reserve that’s played in NFL games and can help in subpackages as a cover player or at safety should he be needed on the active roster. He’s one injury away. Tags: Dustin Fox, Fernando Bryant
  3. I expect Butler will play, Reed prolly not, Schobol def not, i really think Whitner will play.

  12. Chris Brown Posted November 6th, 2008 Tags: Ellis Hobbs, LaMont Jordan, Randy Moss, Sammy Morris, Terrence Wheatley, Vince Wilfork It’s not looking good for Patriots RB LaMont Jordan (calf) to play this week. After participating on a limited basis Wednesday, he did not practice Thursday. RB Sammy Morris (knee) also has not practiced this week. BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Kevin Faulk are expected to shoulder the load in the running game for the Pats Sunday. CB Lewis Sanders (hamstring) also did not practice for a second straight day and is not expected to be available. Neither is CB Terrence Wheatley (wrist) who did not practice again on Thursday. Veteran CB Deltha O’Neal, who has not performed well, is expected to play LCB for the Pats Sunday. Limited in practice for a second day in a row were DT Vince Wilfork (toe), CB Ellis Hobbs (shoulder), WR Matthew Slater (ankle) and LB Eric Alexander (hamstring). After practicing on a limited basis Wednesday Randy Moss (foot) practiced fully on Thursday.

  17. Haggan signs with Broncos By Chris Brown - Posted November 4th, 2008 After losing LB D.J. Williams to injury for a few weeks, the Broncos signed free agent LB and former Bill Mario Haggan. Haggan was a player that I thought the Bills would bring back after they lost John DiGiorgio to a torn ACL for the year. Now he’s not an option. Tags: Mario Haggan
  18. If the season ended today By Chris Brown - Posted November 4th, 2008 Here at the midway mark of the season, believe it or not the Bills would be on the outside looking in if playoff berths were handed out now. At 5-3 the Bills are tied for the third best record in the AFC. The only problem is two of the other teams with that record are the Jets and Patriots. And with Buffalo currently 0-2 in the division they not only aren’t the division leader via tiebreaker, but also would lose the final Wild Card spot to (ugh) New England by virtue of the Patriots’ better division record right now (1-1). The Bills sit seventh in the conference, one spot out of the postseason. I know it’s only half the season, but it provides a peek at how critical the division record can be with the logjam that exists right now in the AFC. It might not just mean the difference between winning the division and getting a Wild Card berth. It could mean the difference in getting a playoff berth at all. Tags: AFC playoff picture, Wild Card
