  3. Fantasy Fantasy spin: T.O. now a No. 2 WR, at best Posted: Fantasy | Michael Fabiano | Tags: Buffalo Bills, Terrell Owens (Ronald Martinez / Getty Images) In a move that came out of nowhere, the Buffalo Bills have signed Terrell Owens to a one-year, $6.5 million deal. Owens, released by the Dallas Cowboys last week, becomes the No. 1 wideout on a team that suddenly has some firepower. But while playing for the Bills helps the value of the players around him, Owens actually loses luster. This is by far the least-potent offense Owens has been a part of in his career, so he’s no longer a No. 1 fantasy option at his position. Instead, T.O. should be seen as more of a No. 2 wideout in most formats. The move does improve the value of Trent Edwards, who should now be considered an attractive sleeper candidate and a better No. 2 fantasy quarterback. Lee Evans, a superb threat in the vertical pass attack, should also benefit from the standpoint that he’ll draw the opposition’s No. 2 cornerback rather than its top defensive back. However, he’s now closer to a high-end No. 3 fantasy wideout than a No. 2 option across the board. James Hardy, who’s coming off a disappointing rookie season, now has no chance to start and holds minimal draft value. With Owens and Evans in the pass attack, opposing defenses will no longer be able to stack the line of scrimmage to stop the run. That’s good news for Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson. Of course, fantasy leaguers need to monitor the status of Lynch, who could be suspended at the start of the 2009 season due to off-field issues. One thing is for sure — the Bills will be getting a lot more attention next season, both in the NFL media and in fantasy circles. Whether it’s good or bad remains to be seen. 11. McGee’s chances to be re-signed in 2010 better now By Chris Brown - Posted March 4th, 2009 With the signing of Drayton Florence to terms that are not breaking the bank, Buffalo should be in position to re-sign Terrence McGee next offseason when he’s to become a free agent or sooner. Had Jabari Greer re-signed with Buffalo for upwards of $6M or more per season, it would have dramatically reduced the chances of McGee re-signing with the Bills after the 2009 season. The reason why is Buffalo is already heavily invested in Leodis McKelvin. Had they signed Greer to big money, investing heavily again in McGee would be unrealistic because you can’t have too many fat contracts at one position. It becomes cost prohibitive in terms of addressing other positional needs on your team. I don’t know this, but I always got the sense that the organization valued McGee as a player just a little bit more than Greer. I could be wrong, but perhaps that’s why Greer didn’t find Buffalo’s offer satisfactory. Tags: Drayton Florence, Jabari Greer, NFL free agency, Terrence McGee

  21. Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Charlie Frye, Melvin Fowler, Oakland Raiders, Ray Willis The Seattle-to-Oakland flight is busy with Seahawks going to visit the Raiders. Not to mention connectors from Buffalo and Denver. Oakland, which has had a busy offseason, is hosting visits today with two of Seattle’s free agents — quarterback Charlie Frye and offensive tackle Ray Willis — along with free-agent center Melvin Fowler. Frye could serve as a backup for JaMarcus Russell, and Willis has drawn interest around the league from tackle-needy teams. Tack on one more visitor today. After losing center Jake Grove to the Dolphins, the Raiders arranged a visit with Fowler, who spent the past three seasons with the Buffalo Bills. But the Raiders did make one signing today. Changes in Denver led to an opportunity for offensive tackle Erik Pears in Oakland. Once Denver did not place a contract tender on Pears, he became an unrestricted free agent. And once Pears became an unrestricted free agent, he jumped at the chance to sign with the Raiders, who will give him a chance to compete for playing time at offensive tackle. After becoming an undrafted free agent, Pears was with Denver from 2005 to 2008. Oakland made a splash before free agency, re-signing punter Shane Lechler and cornerback Nnamdi Asamugha. Now it is making another push in the opening week of free agency.
