  1. Gotta love the fans who think they know better than people who do this for a living and have been at it for literally multiple decades. By no means are McBeane proven at their jobs because they've both made mistakes. At least now there seems to be a plan whereas previously it was people making more random decisions. If Allen doesn't pan out they know it's on them. One thing I know is next year they won't trade up for a WR, draft a RB high, or say they were in QB purgatory.
  2. Management is world better from GM to HC than previous incarnations, but judging players after 1 year is premature. 2-3 years is more appropriate and I know that doesn't mesh with the "now" mindset most fans have. Tre White played well last year, as did Dawkins. Now it's time to see if they can carry it over into their 2nd season when expectations are higher.
  3. Obviously you stick with McCarron and Peterman, make it a fair competition (because the NFL needs to be fair like Little League) and use your picks to draft straight need. Use your picks on LBs, RBs, interior OL, and of course more CBs. QB's are risky and therefore taking them high should not be an option unless it's an absolute guarantee. /sarcasm
  4. Is there a moratorium on non-panicky fans posting. Seems like everyone is worried and anxious that nothing will work in Buffalo's favors. Trust the process during the season. Doubt McBeane in the off-season.
  5. Last year all I heard here was "trust the process." Now that we're entering perhaps the biggest event in the process, people refuse to trust OBD because they know better? McCarron's contract tells me that several other QB needy teams did not consider him starting material. In a league where QB is the most important position, it should tell a fan something. Perhaps he's a franchise guy, but it doesn't look the way. Still, the chances aren't high. Low information fans want to believe things that have little basis in reality. Say what you will about Schopp, but some of the takes he's talking about are as off the wall as it gets. Then again, many of these fans pushing their bizarre theories want their opinion to be right and can't be bothered with someone trying to inject a healthy dose of practicality. This team has charted a course since last April that said QB was their priority in the 2018 off-season. Team building does not require a front office to be fair, only to win games. McCarron and Peterman may be good guys, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't have competition from a high draft pick. McBeane aren't going to pass on QB's in the 1st round. It would get both of them fired within 2-3 years if they did.
  6. In 1985, Dan Marino led the league with 4,137 yards passing and 30 TDs. That year, no NFL QB completed more than 62% of their passes. Yet, in 2017 8 QBs threw for more than 4k yards, 3 completed 30 or more TDs, and 19 starting QB's completed 62% or more of their pass attempts. The game has changed so significantly, especially how rosters have been built, how penalties are called, and much of this relates to the QB position. NFL franchises aren't using a strategy that's 30+ years old to build a team.
  7. This thread is reminiscent of a sketch on SNL 30 years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUL7q8eyig8
  8. McDermott would body slam Brandon if the latter came into the draft room and started talking strategy.
  9. Players involved in personnel decisions? It makes so much sense, particularly after what's happened in Cleveland with LeBron. That franchise has turned into a soap opera, to the extent the coach was stressed out and needed time off. The drama in sports, heck in everything is wearing people out. I understand Rodgers wants to win, but where does the line get drawn between players and management? It's not as if this is Archie Manning running for his life in New Orleans without much around him. Rodgers comes off as a dude who finds the Yoko Ono's of the dating scene anyway.
  10. An offensive line with a guy name Frank is so blue collar. And we know blue collar and Buffalo go together like roast beef on a kimmelweck roll. BTW, has anyone mentioned how imperative it is to get a QB who can throw in the Buffalo weather? This length of this offseason is only surpassed by the length of winter in WNY.
  11. I have no doubt McBeane aren't banking on people who haven't produced in so long. It's amazing that some advocate going with AJM at QB and eschewing the QB in the draft. There's no way a career-minded HC and GM would risk their future . The things be talked about here get more weird by the day.
  12. Rod Streater? The guy with 28 catches in the last 4 NFL seasons?
  13. More like if someone applied to your company but said they would publicly protest during business hours about something political.
  14. Truth is an endangered species in NFL circles this time of year. Polls mean almost nothing and their value is to the producer who can hype it to create a story where none exists. I put zero stock into what NFLN says about this. Only 13 more days...
  15. McBeane are thinking longer term than 2018 when, on paper, this team will have at least 2 new OL starters. No decent GM or HC is thinking only 1 year into the future. At least not those who want to have a job further down the road. Besides, no one drafts a QB because they are concerned about the OL. They improve the OL and simultaneously get the QB.
  16. Time to take the day off from posting - again. Or, keep trolling on dude.
  17. Another day. Another thread about why getting a QB is too expensive and we need (insert position here). Some things never change. This draft can't come soon enough.
  18. Buffalo was 4-12 in '86 and 8-7 in '87. Kelly's acquisition was so much different than drafting a QB. He already had 36 USFL games under his belt and was very good to start.
  19. Montana was drafted in 1979. Brady in 2000. While we're at it, how about Johnny U in the 9th round of the 1957 draft. Or Bart Starr in the 17th round in '56? The past does not predict the future and those who abhor risks to gain security will themselves realize failure. You and I haven't agreed much over the years, but this post is indeed spot-on. There needs to be a change in strategy and I sense that has occurred at OBD. No team without a top QB has truly rebuilt. And the likeliest place to find them is at the top of the first round. It remains a nuanced discussion (which isn't suited to a message board) but the idea you can settle for a 2nd/3rd rounder to focus on positions of less value is asinine. (EDIT) Or, hope someone falls into picks 6 and later. It's time to be aggressive and stop being passive about finding your QB of the future. The fact remains that being afraid of taking a QB is what has led Buffalo, as bandit said above, into mediocrity. They chose one dude, hoped he would work out, saw him fail, and had nothing behind that guy. It is a strategy for losing. And frankly, I don't care what "walter football" has to say. Their site carries too much advertisements and is in no way quality. I'll take ourlads anyday and I recommend their draft guides.
  20. I'm going to ask one more time: how old were you when Lonnie Johnson was drafted? If your opinion on these draft picks is based on personal observation and stats, well, people can disagree. If your perspective is based on a pro football reference search, then your "evaluation" isn't all that in-depth.
  21. You won't answer because it doesn't support your "evaluation." What, 10? 5? Your thread is one of many that will be forgotten. Drop the ego dude. There are many other posters who are more knowledgeable than you and your analysis isn't sound.
