  1. Since when do college passing statistics translate into the pro game. Tua isn't even eligible to be drafted anyway. To the OP's thread: It's almost merciful that this season ends now. The primary reason to watch at all this year was seeing Allen's development. Of course, that was botched by McBeane, but at least we've seen him make a few plays and can hope he continues to improve. That, and they finally stop investing more resources on defense and get actual OL and skill position players.
  2. The statistical analysis cited to demonstrate Zay is a 2 is about as deep a dive as jumping into a puddle. It proves nothing. The fact is, much of his production comes when games were not in doubt: He had 3 catches for 26 yards late at Baltimore. 2 catches for 63 yards versus SD when Buffalo was down 21-3 or worse. He had 1 catch at Minnesota for 17 yards when the score was 27-0. At GB, his 4 catches for 38 yards all came when the score was 19-0 or worse. Against Indy, he had 1 catch for 15 yards with the score 24-0. He had 3 catches for 7 yards versus Chicago with the difference of 28 points or worse. At the Jets, 3 of his catches (for 28 yards) came with Buffalo up more than 2 TDs. And at NE, all 5 of his receptions for 67 yards came with Buffalo out of it. By my count, that's 22 catches for 261 yards (and 2 TDs) when the game is not in question. There aren't many WR2s who log 45% of their production in garbage time.
  3. 13 years at DT is really amazing. Probably the best 5th round or later pick in team history. It's going to be different next season without him.
  4. Those who claim Zay as a Whaley pick are the same types who flat out believe Buddy chose EJM because Nix said he wanted to get a QB before he left. Still, personnel evaluation has been underwhelming since McBeane took over in 2017. There are already some questionable draft picks, the trade for Benjamin, and poor decisions with free agents (signings and those leaving). They need a flawless 2019 off-season.
  5. Not a good sign for Edmunds when fans are already citing the players around him as a partial reason why his play is not good.
  6. This week I was told this is a #2 defense...I'm just not sure which league that is after today.
  7. I've seen this post almost every year the past decade plus. It got old a long time ago.
  8. Zay is great if each game had about 30 minutes of garbage time.
  9. He's competing in the 2018 Hide and Go Seek Championship. Needless to say he's doing quite well.
  10. Haven't seen McClappy doing his thing yet. Is that a 2nd quarter thing?
  11. I'd recommend not telling people they don't know what they're talking about every time you disagree. In this case, correlation does not mean causation. The stats don't explain the effect having a healthy Andrew Luck, a new HC, better RB play, a new offensive coaching staff, or scheme changes mean. Besides, there isn't a guard prospect coming out in 2019 approaching a Quenton Nelson or Zach Martin level. Even if there were and Buffalo was there to take them, the lack of positional value for guards combined with other needs like OT and WR matter. This is especially the case because the free agent market offers few options at WR, TE, or OT compared to guards, which are often there if a team is willing to pay.
  12. You can't mention Nelson or a guy like Brandon Scherff without including Jonathan Cooper or Chance Warmack. Offensively rebuilding teams don't take guards that high.
  13. Using a top 10 pick on a guard is asinine. Building an OL includes talent. Coming together as a unit is just as important and sticking another UFA and high draft pick doesn't automatically mean things are good.
  14. Right now no one knows much of anything about these 5-6 QBs and the time spent predicting their future is a waste. For example, I find it notable that each guy save Allen may have a new HC next season. Another consideration is these types of analyses don't factor in whatever flaws are in their game. You can be sure these will be exposed during off-season film review and the QBs will need to adapt to defenses who better know their strengths and weaknesses. For a team like Buffalo, there's ample evidence now of what Daboll is trying to do with Allen whereas that wasn't as clear earlier.
  15. There is not much in terms of elite talent on this team. At least not right now. Laughable is that they're the "#2" defense.
  16. Ted Washington is still the largest human being I've ever seen up close. He made Pat Williams look small. One of my best memories from interning at the 2000 training camp.
  17. Foster, McKenzie, and Jones Corp. Haven't heard they're going into business together yet.
  18. When the regular season is over, the teams reaching the playoffs will have good or better passing games. Right now, we know that in the AFC, that means KC, SD, HOU, PIT, NE, and perhaps IND. Over in the NFC, it's LAR, NO, MIN, and CHI. The exception is SEA and DAL, although the latter started improving when they acquired a WR. That's as many as 10 out of the 12 teams with excellent passing games. Passing has not been supplanted with running the ball and strong defense. And barring some rules changes, it's going to remain that way. One or two weeks' worth of games isn't going to change it, but people have a tendency to analyze things at the surface.
  19. It's nice that people are getting emotional and talking about a guy's reaction. Still, that doesn't factor into whether it's best for the team to keep someone. Barkley had one start where, a few weeks before, he was out of the NFL. If he's good enough to mentor Allen and, if necessary backup, then sure, sign him. His celebration on the sideline doesn't matter.
  20. Amazing how Foster has done all of this after having been cut. The first round guy they took after trading up with 2 seconds isn't getting cut anytime soon. The 2nd rounder from 2017 they traded a 3rd to move up for, well, that's a different story. You have no idea what that kid's been through. Mental health is not something to make fun of. Phil McGeoghan clearly knows WRs. Or at least he knew how to advocate for Buffalo to take him. Either way, OBD hasn't set the world on fire with offensive players in the draft these last few years.
  21. And I'm sure McCoach will consider telling Beane he wants another DLineman or CB for his defense. In these final 3 games Allen needs to demonstrate he can throw the ball downfield as best as possible. That said, his WR group isn't notable, and I'd guess will change significantly by the start of 2019.
  22. Sometimes I wonder if Sal drinks a pot of coffee before he goes on air. He's practically a mile a minute. Yet compare the over-caffeinated one with Paul Hamiltion, beat writer for the Sabres. I don't think Hamilton is too harsh or too easy within his coverage of the Sabres. Fans just don't want to hear negative, as evidenced by this board and people like Cappuccino know this. He'd prefer to run down the middle and wave the pom-poms as much as he can because everyone knows the Pegula's don't like negative attention.
  23. Chiefs fans see a 4-9 team that will likely be in the top 6 of the next draft and think there's a chance McCoach gets fired. We know he won't, but 4-9 ain't much to be proud about. I wouldn't call that "building a winning team" either.
