Is this the most active Bills free agency period ever?
BillsVet replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marv and DJ's first go-round in 2006 UFA was about the same quantity of UFAs: DT Larry Tripplett TE Robert Royal C Melvin Fowler WR Peerless Price G Tutan Reyes S Matt Bowen CB Kiwaukee Thomas QB Craig Nall RB Anthony Thomas WR/KR Andre Davis But that wasn't the same in terms of quality. At least on the surface it wasn't. -
It's time to get a hobby if you've prioritized telling people "I told you so" about UFA signings on day 2 of the new league year. Pat yourself on the back. Job well done. Yep, it's guaranteed they're taking down NE in the division now. Didn't anyone learn the lesson that "winning the off-season" ain't all it's cut out to be? Doesn't matter...egos are involved and ripping fellow fans is the status quo.

Does this qualify OBD for the off-season version of the Lombardi Trophy?

A guy with the name "Logic" makes a general statement that free agents won't come to Buffalo and points to this UFA signing period as evidence. We forget that John Brown turned Buffalo down last year and it's logical to deduce that he went to Baltimore because they were closer to competing for a title. This, as opposed to Buffalo featuring Nate Peterman and likely a rookie at QB. Buffalo took Josh Allen last year and I'd say most fans think he'll take a step in the right direction in 2019. Still, as a player, you want to win AND get paid. It's why someone like Teddy Bridgewater turned Miami down to remain New Orleans' backup. It's why higher end UFAs like Morse, Brown, and Beasley are now willing to come to Buffalo. When you win or players think you've got a legit chance to win, your team becomes more attractive. That and you offer a lot of money. Buffalo still has a lot to prove on the field, but they've made some moves in the right direction because players think they're finally getting it right. I don't think there's a fan-base in the entire NFL with more of an inferiority complex. Yet, if you win, they'll come (apologies to Ray Kinsella) and hopefully Buffalo turns around after 20 years of bad to mediocre football so they can continue to attract better talent.

This has all the feel of the Chicago Plan
BillsVet replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Getting the QB first and building an offense should have been priority 1 in 2017. Instead, McCoach built a secondary and passed on 2 good QB prospects. The signings today are a step in the right direction, although I'd make the case offense should have been a priority 2 years ago. Teams can't maintain top defenses for more than 3-4 years at a time. But you can maintain a solid offense by getting the QB, skill types, and blockers to score more than 16 ppg. -
NY Attorney General opens probe into Trump's Bills bid
BillsVet replied to stuvian's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The bid was submitted nearly 5 years ago. What's the true purpose of doing this now? Did the previous 2 AGs miss this and the current one all of a sudden figure it out? I doubt it. -

I never put it together until now - the clapping is intended to heal players who are banged up. That's how he keeps 'em in the game. -
Jets reportedly moving on from Darron Lee

John Idzik was replaced with Mike Maccagnan after 2014 so yes, you are correct. -

Jets following Buffalo's lead in clearing the decks of previous regimes' draft picks. Not one remains from the 2012-2015 Nix/Whaley classes. -
Report - Bills interested in Frank Gore, RB
BillsVet replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Look, I'm not going to play the prove a negative game with you. If true, it says plenty about a franchise with tremendous needs on their offense to pursue a RB in his mid-30s. Usually, a team has priorities, and someone like Frank Gore isn't going to attract interest from a dozen teams. You go after the most in-demand types, which I would imagine are the pass rushers and OL. We'll see if they can adequately multi-task in the negotiation game. -

Not sure how old you are, but it's been forever since this team competed for a championship. The natives are restless and, after 2 years of this "process" talk not excited to hear about their interest in a backup RB even if it is a standup dude. Still, if Buffalo were all-in on building through the draft and patching things with UFAs...why the interest in AB last week? Your logic here only goes to the surface level, because if you think the HC and GM entering year 3 of this rebuild don't recognize they are under more pressure, you're missing the forest for the trees. This is a pivotal year in their rebuild and they have to show results, especially after clearing the cap they did leading to a 6-10 last year. Taking a patient approach, signing some bargain bin types, drafting well, and some day maybe signing your own isn't going to get them into the playoffs anytime soon. Ownership, I would hope and expect, is watching. 7-9 ain't gonna cut it next year with another pedestrian offense. -
Report - Bills interested in Frank Gore, RB
BillsVet replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gore would've fit in almost any NFL era and there's nothing wrong if he's still got some life. Good locker room presence I'm sure. I could get behind Williams. I'm most interested to see if McBeane can swing any trades. The free agent market is typically thin and I''d like to see who becomes available and whether a deal gets made. If they end up with a premier WR and fortify the OL and sign a guy like Gore...we'll, it'd be nice. Offense has to be the priority from here on out, although pass rush needs help as well. -

Signing another defensive free agent to a big contract is the McCoach way of starting the signing period. -

I would imagine Gore is a "Process" Guy. Back to normal after the abbreviated AB pursuit. Bring on the former Panthers UFAs! -
Brandon Beane's Most Impressive Move as Bills GM
BillsVet replied to BillyWhiteShows's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Stringing together good moves for McBeane has been as challenging as the Sabres trying to win 2 straight games in regulation. Hasn't happened in way too long. Last year's UFA/SFA class of Lotulelei, Murphy, McCarron, Ivory, V. Davis, Bodine, Newhouse, and Kerley doesn't exactly make me look forward to tomorrow. In fact, the only decent signings in 2 free agency periods have been Hyde, Poyer, and Haushka. Not one decent free agent added on offense in 2 years. -
What's your off-season worst case scenario?
BillsVet replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You forgot...trade down with a team that selects a future NFL MVP QB. Worst case is Carolina North becomes even more of a reality. Daryl Williams, Devin Funchess, heck, all of Carolina's cast-offs. May as well hire Marty Hurney at this point. -
Can't wait to see great pass protection for Allen only to see Zay Jones drop the pass. Or UDFA TE's and aging RBs not be able to make plays.
