On the way to a new low for the franchise
BillsVet replied to Mularkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm sure word has spread in the past 20 years how hard it is to win with RW owning and Linda Bogdan crying in that front office. It'd be naive to think guys like Polian and AJ Smith haven't told other executives that Buffalo is a wasteland, with an elderly dictator who wants to contol everything. DJ wouldn't have a job above position coach if it weren't for Buffalo. -
On the way to a new low for the franchise
BillsVet replied to Mularkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We haven't seen the low point yet. Fans talk about going 7-9 as being mediocre, well, the next step is plain bad. With the schedule they have in 09, it's going to be interesting to see how this team will manage against Atlanta, Carolina, Tampa Bay, New Orleans, Indy, Tennessee, and of course the Patsies twice. Buffalo's strength of schedule was pretty poor. Next year it goes up a few notches. -
Ralph will pocket more money, because he's got the Toronto money, 56k+ who bought season tickets, and a cheap coach. You can bet they won't splurge in FA, which is to say we'll add some rookies, PR this thing like never before, and provide the same product with different wrapping paper.

Do the players who give those cookie-cutter quotes get paid extra? Or do they get commercials with Cellino and Barnes?

Ralph has hired an 80 year old man without NFL front office experience as his GM. Ralph has given his seal of approval to a coach who has proven he cannot win in the NFL. Ralph has let go or pushed out the door every successful coach/front office executive. Saban, Polian, Butler and Smith all were either fired or quit because he's meddling. Ralph's franchise has a sub .500 record since the NFL merger. They are 283-315-2 in 39 seasons of being in the NFL. Ralph's arrogance in thinking we'll all come back to the games should be rewarded appropriately.
-
PR effort already in gear Here it is folks. You knew it was coming. Of course the players like him, many of them have never played for another coach. And few of them have ever played for a good coach. Only Kawika Mitchell comes to mind when thinking of a player who's known a good NFL HC. This is how they intend to sell this team. And I hope it doesn't work.

People didn't like Bruce Smith. Jim Kelly could be a jerk. A lot of 20 somethings aren't great people, but if you want choir boys, you're probably not going to have a tough minded team. Peters is a talented player, and he'll be very good next year. Trading him does not make this team better in 2009, and arguably in 2010 no matter what Buffalo receives in return. The Buffalo Bills are the Toledo Mud Hens of the NFL. They are bush league, and their owner is a minor leaguer. Give Pat Bowlen (who's not in a huge market in Denver) credit for firing Shanahan. It takes balls to eat the contract Shanahan had.
-
The irony behind all of this is that DJ had control over who played on this team and who didn't. And Ralph adopted C2C, which was a marketing move that fooled people into thinking Buffalo spent like any other team. So, the people responsible for this roster were none other than DJ and Ralph. No wonder they wanted each other.
-
Not only that, but DJ was cheap enough for Marv to sell to Ralphie. I wouldn't be surprised if that was one of the conditions RW gave Marv upon the latter assuming the title of GM. Marv wasn't cut out for the GM thing. It was far too political for him to deal with people like Linda Bogdan and the flunkies Ralph has staffing the front office. He tried to approach it like Polian, but his eye for talent and reliance on DJ's "expertise" were extremely bad choices.

Haynesworth will be re-signed by the Titans. They would never allow him to get on the market. As much as there's a deal that he can go UFA, Tennessee won't let him walk out the door. Suggs, I can see hitting the market, but does anyone think Buffalo's spend 9M+ for another DE? There are some decent starting centers, but they're long in the tooth. I'm talking about Saturday, Birk, and Meester. With Buffalo having a yearly youth movement, they won't be acquiring anyone very old. They may sign one name guy, but it won't matter. DJ by himself removes this team from games.
-
He has absolutely no handle on the situation. If it were as easy a decision as RW made it out to be, why couldn't he say that during the season or even yesterday? I'm of the belief, as many else are, that it was motivated by financial benefit to himself. Jeff Littman wouldn't be there if that weren't the case. Lastly, with a difficult schedule looming next season, moving forward will be hard to come by. If Buffalo had 22 All-Pro's, I'm confident after witnessing first hand from my front row seat how inept DJ truly is. He single-handedly loses games, and it's not going to change after being in the league as a HC for 8 seasons.

Just called the season tickets office.....

And it will be. They just guaranteed it with this move. -
The Jauron question (and the answer I suspect)
BillsVet replied to DazedandConfused's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Is it any coincidence that DJ coached teams can't do anything offensively? Some idiot will say it's always players, but over the past six seasons he's been a full time HC, no DJ coached team has had an offense which ranked higher than 25th in total yards. Jauron record per PFR Since 2002, he's never been higher than 17th in points scored. And yes, I am removing the 2001 season, which officially was a fluke. The offense is a problem because DJ manages the offense his way, no matter who fills the OC role. -
My guess about yesterday's meeting in Detroit....
BillsVet replied to bluenews's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ralph had this to say: "In my discussions with Dick and our senior football people the issues are recognized and I am confident they will be addressed.” Who exactly are those senior football people? Guy wasn't there, and neither was Overdorf. Not that they're all-star executives, but Ralph has absolutely no one to advise him on football matters. Modrak is an old scout, and Brandon couldn't find talent if it was his own kid. There are no senior football people because like Al Davis, RW only wants to hear what he wants to hear. -
No, we cannot. I don't expect to get every tidbit or nugget of inside info, but nothing they say is close to honest. The Bills expend so much energy selling this team, and it's not going to work this season. I think the fans have eaten the PR spin for as long as they will. This decision sends a powerful message that no rational fan can ignore. And that is that Ralph is here to make money, team be da*ned.

Tony Sparano is getting 3M per to win games. And he's a rookie coach. Our coach is thankful to be anything more than a position coach.
-
Chris Brown is part of the OBD spin machine. Oh sure, he says something negative once in a blue moon, but he's a mouthpiece for this team. He probably gets his marching orders from Scott Berchtold or Brandon. Either way, he's a never going to be very objective. . I'm sure if you asked him outside of his job what he thought, he'd say this organization is run like the Cleveland Indians of Major League fame. But why bite the hand that feeds you?

What we saw this season from Schonert went counter to his bluster before the season began. With that in mind I agree that DJ had certain control over TS' calls. Ultimately, the HC can overrule the OC anytime he wants. It wouldn't surprise me if DJ micromanaged his OC when things got tough later in the season. It almost seemed like when things were close, the string on TS became tighter and the plays were even more unimaginative. When they scored and got a lead, TS could do his thing, as evidenced in KC.

Jauron was a loser as a player too
BillsVet replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One thing that hasn't changed in 30 years is how poor the Cincinnati and Detroit franchises have been. To pin their entire success or failure on one DB is probably the most ridiculous thing I've read on TSW. And I've read some real doozies. DJ isn't a winning HC, but I'll say this for the man: he played 8 seasons in the National Football League. That's more than just about anyone on this entire board. He also was a standout RB in the Ivy League, while having a 4.0 throughout college. Go ahead and dislike him for being an underachiever as a HC. But don't discount his entire NFL career because he played for bad teams. Ernie Banks played for some bad Cubs teams during his career. Does that make him a loser? Ted Williams made it to one World Series, but he's widely considered the best hitter in MLB history. And that's coming from a Yankees fan. Dick Butkus played on some poor Chicago teams from 65-73, as did Gale Sayers. So your point is a pathetic one at best. Not sure why I'm running to the defense of a bad HC, but it's only fair to show how hollow your opinion is. -
I see diplomacy isn't your strong suit. And for the record, Marv was not hired in Jan 06 to be the HC. He was brought on to be the GM, a position he'd never handled in the NFL. ML may have say in on draft day and gave his opinion, but he did not work in the front office for this or any other team. It was a poor hiring which was short term. Unfortunately, RW never adequately planned for the future after Levy.

Coaching choices for the Bills
BillsVet replied to EasternOHBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Caldwell is the pick to succeed Tony Dungy upon the latter's retirement. Cannot see him leaving the organization, no matter which job opens up. -

BillsVet replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In all fairness (and I don't care for DJ the HC) he wasn't a bad player. His rookie season he made the Pro Bowl team, and had 25 career INT's with 2 TD returns. That, as a converted college RB at Yale and probably undersized FS in the pros. Those Detroit and Cincinnati teams would not have been good with him. -
Jeff Littman is the power behind this franchise. He's the guy who keeps track of the money, and as such, is the man behind the scenes. He's been in the position 20+ years, and reportedly his dispute with Polian was a factor in BP being fired. He is the CFO and RW's right hand man. His opinion counts for a lot, and with profits never being enough, he influences RW a lot. Yet we never hear about him beyond these meetings.

Funniest thing I've read all day.
