Elite QB's elevate the players and coaches around them. You never look at that aspect in black and white, but Josh definitely is a big reason Daboll has a HC gig now. Was Daboll really that good as a play-caller. Friction, well, I'd guess that's present on most coaching staffs with A type personalities. But I digress. The risk averse mentality that inhabits message boards really doesn't matter. Most people are careful and cautious with their takes for fear of alienating the homers. But when you look around the conference and teams are are being bold on offense AND defense, well it's hard to see where the organization is supporting Josh this off-season. My guess is, their solution is to run the ball more and take pressure off him.

Hapless, with all due respect...regular season stats/data/rankings and the like are not the only means of measuring competency or demonstrating an innovative offense. It's the safe argument, which is what you focus on almost universally, but I'm concerned in the results, not the effort. A real look at the offensive draft picks and UFA dollars spent shows it's a secondary objective to the HC, who is architect of the team. Now, before you point back to ancient history and cite "Stefan Diggs" show me where they've been using their top picks well on the offensive skill positions? Because aside from the trade for Diggs, they haven't used a first on an offensive player other than their franchise QB...in 5 drafts. And their 2nd round picks aren't exactly setting the NFL on fire unless Dawkins, Zay, and Cody Ford are your cup of tea. Last season, until late when Josh was running the ball ~9x/game in their last 7 and their offense was helter-skelter. A new OL scheme that didn't match with their players. Signing guys like Sanders who wasn't capable of getting deep. Putting McKenzie in late in the season when it was clear offensive speed was at a deficit. Moving out former 3rd round pick Moss for UFA Breida. They may go draft a fine WR in Round 1. But their UFA period was defense heavy and that approach never gets modified with McCoach at the helm. It's always the priority and that's not gonna work...especially when opponents are already ahead of Buffalo.

Easy...I don't couch my take in regular season rankings that have nothing to do with playoff performance. All of the people who love to cite Buffalo's "top ranked defense" never can admit that it failed when they needed it most. Whether that was coaching or individual player, it's up for debate. Same goes for the offense. Josh makes a lot of people look better than they actually are (see Divisional Playoff game), and that applies to the HC who has had friction with his 2 OC hires.

This team drafting a CB will make at least one poster's head hurt. His name is @BillfromNYC As to McCoach...his inability to understand and build an offensive unit is concerning now into his 6th off-season as a HC. Because after the last game they played, he's head and shoulders above anyone else at OBD as the weak link.

Re: the draft. It's not an opportunity to fill needs with picks. Every year I see people say we'll draft position X in the first, position Y in the second and presto-blamo we're good. That's people who don't think strategically and view roster development with a severe case of myopia. My point remains about the offense versus the defense. They constantly give the HC what he wants on defense and this year they were wise to sign a proven pass rusher. No argument there, but what they did on offense is really underwhelming, especially at the skill positions. It's not enough, especially when people expand their perspective and see what other AFC teams did this off-season. CIN, LAC, LVR, and KC are building/have built offenses with a defensive focus on the pass rush. Makes sense. What doesn't make sense is Buffalo adding defensive pieces without keeping pace on offense. I'll contend it's because the HC is a blockhead who thinks you need an 8-10 man DL rotation and to take the ball out of your QB's hands running it more to create "balance." They need a WR to fit in and perhaps they'll draft that guy, but with McHardhead, I wouldn't put it past him to go defense and make it 5 of 7 years using a 1st on that side.

It's hard to watch the McD/Beane off-seasons and not see the personnel acquisition disparity between defense and offense. For all the talk about cap limitations during this regime, they always seem to have a need/spend on defense with offense taking a backseat. They've been a top-5 spending team on defense since 2019 and used 4 out of 6 1sts since McD/Beane took over. The GM said after the 2020 season that the way you lose your last game is where you know you're short. Well, they got run out of the building by KC in 2020 couldn't rush the passer. They added some DE's and went back with the offense from the previous season. This last KC loss I didn't see defensive personnel being the issue. It was a wide gap in offensive skill talent and Josh's performance concealed that. But if the answer is some 1 year deals and more defense I fail to see how that keeps pace with KC and the moves LAC, SD, CIN, and IND have made.

Please cite independent economist(s) who will support your assertion and provide objective evidence in the way of a conclusion. At a minimum, this should include the financial impact of public money benefitting the public (not team owners). If pro sports teams home stadiums are infrastructure, why are they in use ~15 times a year to the paying public? The problem with stadium construction for the favorite team is that it's visible because you watch the games. You probably don't live in my area where bridges languish and are not repaired in a timely manner. Or, the roads in an adjoining county or perhaps yours are poorly maintained. There's hundreds of millions of dollars going to one site that, from a fairness in taxation perspective, benefits a very narrow segment of the population while costing everyone...one that your favorite team will occupy. But stadium construction wins votes and that's all that matters. The run of the mill improving of roads, bridges, culverts, and other municipal projects particularly does not re-elect state representatives. You've proven none of these assertions and fallen back on rhetorical flourishes that demonstrate you have no idea what you're talking about. Where in any local or state government does the taxpayer subsidize 60% (850M of 1.4B) the building of a businesses' physical location?

KC's offensive skill position talent and willingness to continuously improve it are why they'll be solid again next season without Hill. Buffalo seems to poke their toe in the water there, but when it comes to the off-season (with the exception of Diggs) they revert into draft defense, over-draft JAG linemen and throw some UFA money/mid-round pick at offense. Taking a CB in the first would mean 5 of their top 7 picks in the McCoach era have been used on that side of the ball. And they've used a lot of UFA dollars over there as well, likely more than on offense.

Dave Gettleman's 2016 DB laden draft class not working out for the succeeding regime really means nothing in this discussion. That is, unless Gettleman is now advising Beane on how to draft poorly like he did with NYG and CAR. I really don't understand people clamoring for another CB like it's the sky falling if they don't draft one high. Offensive skill position speed was identified as a major issue and they've still not improved the WR group. Howard and Johnson are improvements, but they still lack a deep threat. Considering that this franchise wins or dies with Allen, giving him more options is preferable. Besides, Buffalo didn't lose their last game because the CB's were a mess even with Tre out.

I don't really buy this surface level analysis that big QB contracts are inhibiting success. Really, those contracts just mean personnel departments, amateur scouting and pro, need to step up their game so teams aren't caught flat-footed. GB and DAL are notoriously poor in managing their personnel to be prepared when a player comes up for a huge extension particularly at DE, WR, CB and OT. Because if the only options are to re-sign the guy to eat up your cap or draft someone...you're wrong. Always need to be developing people and that's why I think KC has done with Mecole Hardman. The Chiefs have an option. Every off-season I see fans here talk about how we gotta re-sign our own. Well sure, but to a point because if a guy like Hill needs a new deal, it's a decision made within the overall team's strategy and the cap situation among other factors.

I always cracked up when Brandon called Whaley, "Whales." Two clowns who've been thankfully DFA'd from the Buffalo Bills forever. The irony is, at the end of Rex's final season, Whaley undermined RR through his contacts and at OBD to get his own swing at a HC (after Marrone was hired by Brandon and Rex was a Pegula decision). Then, he winds up T/K Pegs hiring McD who could see how terrible he was as a GM. Maybe he finds his way back to the NFL, but being out for 5 years without finding a front office position speaks volumes. Good luck to Pittsburgh if they hire him.

From Dawg Pound to Bills Mafia - Browns Fans Leaving for the Bills
BillsVet replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall
Human nature is that people are herd animals and right now that herd is in the virtue signaling of protesting against Watson. He might be the bad/twisted person that people suspect, but these things blow over and, as already stated, when/if the Browns start winning fans will go back. -
Trading Edmunds makes no sense at this point
BillsVet replied to bubba2018's topic in The Stadium Wall
Another straw man attempt to defend Edmunds...well, iImagine Allen developing as slowly or not at all like Edmunds has. There's no part of Edmunds' game that's improved since he was a rookie. Allen OTOH... -

Yeah…reminds me of the people who deflect blame from GM’s or HC’s because everyone makes mistakes at some point. Should apply to posters as well….didn’t think they’d do it…but hey, all posters are wrong so can’t blame me.. -

McKissinc changes mind, returning to Washington
BillsVet replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's entirely possible. But players make career decisions and, professionally speaking, would you rather play for a franchise featuring Carson Wentz or Buffalo with Josh Allen? A team that's a SB contender or your last one which hasn't made the playoffs 5 of the past 6 seasons? Maybe his kids are in school. Maybe his wife didn't want to leave. Who knows? But it's strange to see someone like Schefter report a signing who then goes back to his original team. -

So much for that theory Buffalo was a destination because of Josh. Nothing against Josh, he's excellent, but something else is afoot here.- 500 replies
