  1. Internal promotions tend to happen when GM's jobs are on the line. Not always, but frequently: McAdoo with Jerry Reese. Marrone with Caldwell. Koetter with Licht.
  2. Whaley went along with almost whatever RR wanted in terms of personnel during 2015 UFA spending spree and defense heavy 2016 draft When the 2016 season tanked, it was RR who was apparently the only offending party. RR was at fault, but not totally. This is a cautionary tale to working with Whaley: he'll play good and acquire the pieces you want at first. If it doesn't work, it's the HC's fault and OBD will start the blame game through the media. If Whaley was half as concerned with building a roster as he is running down others to save his neck this team might make the playoffs.
  3. Doug Whaley isn't no Tim Murray. And Murray himself, much as I like his blunt talk, hasn't produced much yet. Is this what it's come to? Parsing what John Murphy says on state controlled radio?
  4. They were solid pickups at a reduced rate. At the same time, Alexander is entering his 12th season and not someone to build around and Brown is probably going to win big in UFA. The roster on the whole isn't "close" as the GM would have some believe.
  5. Yes. Because the NFL of 2004-05 was suited exactly to the passing game like it has been in 2015-16.
  6. Typical. Point at franchises supposedly worse than Buffalo. Except Cleveland has started their rebuild and acquired more picks. Jed York, I believe, has acknowledged he needs a complete tear down and that process has started. Buffalo? Hanging onto the same GM who never found a QB and who apparently will strike gold finding a HC and QB in the same off-season. Doubtful. When do they get the right executive? Do you honestly think Doug Whaley will not only find a HC, a starting QB, and build the team in 1 off-season when he hasn't done it over the course of the last 3? What has Doug Whaley done to prove he knows what he's doing? Rex Ryan had more of a blueprint for building this team than Whaley put together.
  7. The more they try to avoid a rebuild the greater the likelihood one is in their future. At the same time, the current GM knows his back is against the wall and can't sustain a 3 or 4 win season, so he does what's best for his career and charts a course which inhibits the franchise. I cannot believe how similar the Pegullible led Sabres in 2011-14 were to the Bills of 2014-17. They tried to avoid a rebuild with the Sabres and it didn't work. Now they're doing the same with the Bills and will be in the same place after their first few seasons of ownership. I think we're onto something here dm! Outstanding work.
  8. I think we're going to be looking for another analogy in short order. I'm trying to think of one that isn't too damaging to the environment but it's exceptionally difficult. We've got plenty of time this off-season.
  9. Jed York just did that and he's now at the point where everything needs to be blown up in SF. T/K Pegs don't know it yet, but they'll need to do what Jed's doing this year: gut the entire front office. But you knew that already.
  10. Are any coaches open to the Bills with only a project in Cardale Jones on the roster? Doubtful. If I'm a career minded NFL coach, I stay away from the Bills based on the QB situation alone. That the GM undermined the HC through the media the last month of the season only makes it easier to say no to this franchise. Never mind, the team is alienating their starting QB and could be in a legal battle with said QB. The dumpster fire has become a complete tire fire.
  11. I can only imagine the HC interviews going on right now. If I'm Goodwin, McDermott, whomever, I want to know what their plan is at QB. Right now they have a complete project of a QB and nothing more if they're going this route. And I'm sure any prospective HC knows what they pulled on Marrone just 3 years ago when Fitzpatrick was cut and the new HC was left with what we knew after 2013 was a guy who couldn't play in EJM. TT is a limited passer with poor field vision and they can improve the position. But this is so Bills...get rid of your only option, having nothing waiting in the wings, and hope the next guy is good enough. What is it Doug Whaley does again?
  12. And the same guy is making the picks. But he did say we're close on Tuesday so we've got that going for us, which is nice.
  13. Tom Coughlin's presence would make Doug Whaley pee his pants.
  14. Define a higher standard of professionalism. Sounds to me like some fans want local and national NFL coverage of their favorite team to not interfere with their worldview that things aren't that bad at OBD.
  15. I guess the only solution is for local media to staff their outlets with complete homers who won't ever ask a tough question and fawn over the personalities responsible for the mess at OBD. Plenty of NFL franchises are restricting access by funneling content through their websites and media partners. They have a right to do so. At the same time, tightening their grip on all team news will only elicit more questions when everything goes wrong. As in, when leaks are coming from OBD and the GM denies he had any opinion on the HC the leaks focused on. I get that some fans don't want their team criticized and expect the media to give the team a pass even though they've gone a generation without making the playoffs. It's not reality. Just like demanding media just give in to the team because it's "the team."
  16. The GM and team president excel at planting themselves beside the new owners. Whaley bought himself a one year stay of execution by sucking up and convincing T/K Pegs it's RR's fault that they couldn't coach the superior roster constructed for them. If only the Pegullibles would have gotten out in front of this rather than let the franchise his a new rock bottom. They'll just learn the hard way.
  17. I'm sure Wolf, Caserio, et al. will demand total control and anything short of that they walk away. They wouldn't interview if they fit within an org chart where they're overruled by some shadowy Brandon type character or a meddling owner.
  18. Every off-season some fans assume the team can only improve and there's no way they'll regress. Yet going from 7/8 wins to 10/11 is never just a simple thing and if it was the Bills would have made that leap by now.
  19. Russ Brandon is in charge of a lot...so much that the GM doesn't even know how much. It's amazing how one man can handle it all at PSE. Then again, maybe Russ Brandon doesn't really exist and he's just a figment of our imaginations.
  20. If this is the path, the question remains who'll be building the roster. It's anyone's guess after yesterday's season post-mortem.
  21. Pure conflation. Nice try Hondo. Does Doug Whaley know what it looks like? Because after yesterday's performance he seems confused with all the dotted lines and, you know, stuff. I'll bet he knows who signs his pay check.
  22. Why is the franchise retaining people responsible for this contract necessitating a renegotiation? Who signs a player to a contract and then less than 5 months later it needs to be re-worked? What message does it send both internal and external to the organization that this team knows what it's doing?
  23. The Pegulillibles paid $1.4 billion or so for this franchsie and we don't even have an org chart. Yeah, this will end up just fine.
  24. Buddy Nix had names in mind as well. Some of them turned him down for interviews, leaving the Bills to choose between Perry Fewell the interim (and no chance candidate) HC, Leslie Frazier, and Chan Gailey. The organization never admitted Brian Schottenheimer, Jim Harbaugh, et al. turned them down for interviews. This is what happens when the organization employs people who undermine their HC during the season to win the OBD's Survivor show. But continue shilling for the organization.
  25. San Fran/Oakland media handled 49ers owner Jed York the same way when it was clear he and now former GM Trent Baalke lied through their teeth just before and after Jim Harbaugh was fired. The ran him down behind his back to get rid of him and could only replace him with their DL coach, Jim Tomsula. They've too have had 3 coaches in 3 years and naturally media has questioned everything they've done as a result. If the media isn't asking questions about these woeful organizations then they're like the fans who demand media wave pom-poms. Cheerleading repeated failure is, how do you say it...insanity.
