Moving up to #2 = No Playoffs for the next three years
BillsVet replied to Domdab99's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That ended after the playoff game and QB anxiety season began. -
I can't wait until people stop posting new threads every five minutes about what Buffalo will do, what they want them to do, and what they're in outright fear they're going to do.

Beane is “Trying Like Hell” To Move Up For a QB
BillsVet replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If McBeane move up then I trust they'll do the right thing in trade value. If they don't, well, it's personally disappointing but the HC and GM have a much better handle than I ever will. I'm convinced this positioning to add picks going back to the 2017 first round has a purpose. Whether it's ammunition to trade up for a QB is another matter. They have a primary and contingency plans. It's what they've been working on and what they'll continue to refine until the draft begins. They also won't make knee-jerk decisions like some fans are demanding. -
The hype train for certain prospects seems to have hit the stride. Allen and Jackson are the latest examples. It's a combination of multiple factors why Buffalo likely takes a QB: 1) The trades to accumulate picks the past year. 2) Buffalo not having a long term answer at QB. 3) The team's comments and actions last season about a QB. 4) The draft itself and 5) number of higher quality/hyped QB prospects coming out this year In this draft I wouldn't expect a QB to drop. There are too many teams with needs or a threat to take one.

What is your biggest Bills FA mistake
BillsVet replied to BisonMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Buddy Nix talking about being in bed when UFA opened up in 2010. And Dockery of course. He went all Cordy Glenn around 2008. -
If this happens, yeah. This draft cannot come soon enough.

Chris Brown article: Bills had 2 First Round picks before.....
BillsVet replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From 06-09 Marv/Jauron/Brandon used the draft to fill needs far too often and wound up taking lesser prospects as a result. It was a perfect storm of bad back then: tight finances to spend in UFA, bad drafting and multiple scheme changes. Beane's been around and it's not his first rodeo, but this has to be a foundational draft for the franchise. Anything less is unacceptable. -
Again, bills HAVE called up to browns for first overall
BillsVet replied to *******'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is Beane doing his due diligence in gauging the market, exploring all options and actually what real GMs do behind the scenes. I wouldn't put any stock pro or con into them calling Cleveland. I would have an issue if Buffalo closed up shop and didn't talk to any teams. -
The draft has become an event even without there being 3-4 QBs recognized as top prospects, even though that's rare. It's become a spectacle more so with it going to Thursday nights. The media is hyping it beyond what it should be. It's the fans, specifically those like Buffalo's who believe there will be some major action. Still, the past does not predict the future and each draft is different. This one happens to feature at least a quantity of QBs not typically seen. In other years player groups like DL or WR might be strong.

There's no evidence that it's an illegal substance that led to this behavior. It's possible, but the cause could very well be nothing having to do with drugs.

I've said it repeatedly here: finding your QB is the fastest way to success. Besides, Whitner/McCargo/Maybin were drafted by people masquerading as GM's and inferior HC/front office personnel. They had no plan or a weak one for rebuilding and the results speak for themselves. From 2006-2016 OBD used the draft primarily to fill holes while essentially expecting the one QB they hoped would work actually did. When that option didn't, they looked for one other guy. The only time there's been anything close to an attempt to improve at QB was 2007 when Marv took Edwards. After that, OBD was scared to death of acquiring anyone who would challenge their anointed QB.

We should be counting our blessings
BillsVet replied to Sky Diver's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd say after the Wildcard game that the GM and HC know their major issue is not having a QB who makes plays with his arm. It doesn't mean they don't have needs elsewhere, but their major need remains a passing game. Everything else pales in comparison. -
We should be counting our blessings

Coach McD earlier this month on BB.com: “The biggest thing for us is making sure we hit the reset button. We’re not maybe as far along as some people think we are,” said McDermott. “We’ve got a lot of work to do. At the same time we must remain true to who we are as an organization and our core values.” http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-1/Bills-Today-McDermott-sees-a-good-deal-of-roster-building-ahead/18ca47f8-e08f-4594-b843-da5df63ac432 I give McD credit here for being honest about the roster. Both he and Beane know it and aren't setting unrealistic expectations. -
McCoy, Ivory, Cadet, and Taiwan Jones are all 29 or older when the season begins. That's a lot of mileage on a position where newer is almost always better.

No one should ever take any calculated risks. I'm also still amazed how the past magically predicts the future. A guy didn't work out for a team 15 years ago means one of the current crop won't achieve or be worth a trade up. There are way to many people afraid of their own shadow. One would think given these types of threads that it's their job on the line if they don't get a franchise QB.

Can't help but think of the 2004 draft...
BillsVet replied to Eddiegoofball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hindsight is always 20/20, which is all you've proven here. What happened 6 years ago does not predict what will happen this year. -
GMs who play it safe get fired just like those who take calculated risks. GMs who don't provide their team with options get fired as well. To enter the season with McCarron and Peterman isn't much better than going with EJM, Thad Lewis, and Jeff Tuel. The guy who pulled that stunt got fired.

And, as has been pointed out ad nauseam, Green Bay selected Aaron Rodgers the following year at 24.
