Because the odds are better than with a 2nd rounder. Because you're trying to win the Super Bowl. Like I said, almost ALL the Super Bowl winners had #1's.Timing is also important. Right now they have Losman and Evans coming into their own. A back drafted now will start to peak right with these guys. Plus we have a nice high pick, next year we (hopefully) will be lower. Probably won't work, might be a bust- Sure, teams around the league are building like this as well, obviously it might not work, but it is the best way. Look at past history.

With all the negative posts, and "sky is falling" worrying, I am interested in seeing some of my fellow posters Super Bowl predictions. Basically it's " If the Bills have so many glaring needs, and the Bills management is so incompetent, which team do you prefer this season?". It would be cool if this was a PINNED POST, so then others could reference a posters preferred organization.
-
My point is that when the Bills are ready to make a real run for the Super Bowl, these guys won't be rookies. Because they are still BUILDING the team, they can pick the best player available in any one of their need areas. Will it EVER happen? The odds are against it (31 other teams working on the same problems), but the Bills have to time their acquisitions properly. To fix the mess of the previous regime could take some time, but I expect the playoffs this season. This is Marv's 2nd draft, give the guy 3 drafts at least.
-
EVERY team is forced to play rookies. The quality of play across the league has dipped because of free agency. I can't recall Marv talking Super Bowl at all. He hasn't "lied" and claimed "were going for the big one right now", instead they say we're "trying to win now". They are BUILDING the team. That's the point. Thats why you don't just try to fix your "biggest" weakness. Instead you try to get the best player available in your need areas, not a specific position.
-
EVERY team team in the NFL has weak spots, all are doing their best to cover for those players. No matter who or what the BIlls draft, they will have a glaring weakness. That's why I hope they choose the best guy available at one of their need "areas". If a particular linebacker stands out as head and shoulders better than a particular RB or a D-lineman, I hope they take him, or vice-versa. I would hope most Bills fans would think this way instead of zeroing in on one particular need.

Youbouty versus a 1st round drafted CB

Whoa! Slow down. You sound like the kind of guy that only has one ball left. Better save that one for better odds and bigger stakes. -
Youbouty versus a 1st round drafted CB
Git'er Done replied to Pyrite Gal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hall was a senior this year. Youboty was drafted as a junior. If Youboty had stayed in school, he would have been a top rated corner coming out this year. Why spend a first rd pick on a senior CB? It's simple, they won't. -
Greatest All Time : Running Backs
Git'er Done replied to Marshmallow's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
8 teams means EVERYBODY was good. Higher standards. Of course modern atheletes are better conditioned etc. but he was easily the best of his era and I think that's what you should go by. He was better in his own era than anyone else has ever been in the others. -
Braking down the tape on Michael Bush
Git'er Done replied to obie_wan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When I look at Bush highlights, I see a guy who is top-heavy, without much balance, that seem to go down pretty easy. He has quick feet for his size, but doesn't seem to be moving very fast. I'm not impressed. Lynch looks waaayy better. Lower to the ground, with GREAT balance. Bush goes down easy when running around the end. #5 on the reel - Lynch would never go down so easily. (i just read the whole breakdown and realized that guy says the same thing) -

Top 5 Best and Worst looking uniforms in the league
Git'er Done replied to Yasin's BILLS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
yeah, that was why the Bills changed to red in the first palce, so many teams had white helmets. I like the red best myself. Maybe they could use the blue from the throwbacks on a new uni. I don't like any of the uniforms that are based on the Broncos (I think they were the first) uniforms. That silly curved "stripe" down the side of the pants just bothers me,. I really want the Bills to lose it. -

I never said Marv wasn't involved. In fact I began to type "Now I know someone will write that Marv had input", but I didn't because I thought that was obvious, and it gets really fcking tedious disclaiming every idiotic interpretation of every post. I know Bills history pretty well. I guess I could ask why YOU never mentioned Polian. I also believe you are underestimating the former head of scouting Butler's input. That is another difference. My point is that this is a different group of people and the team is at a different point. I have also yet to read anyone referring to the last draft as "Jauron's Draft", yet he probably played as big a part in this draft as Marv did in "Marv's draft's" of the 80's. -
Who sees Green Bay trading up with us in the draft?

Name ONE running back from NFL Europe that has rushed for say 500 yards in the NFL? -
I hope we don't trade Takeo Spikes.
Git'er Done replied to Yasin's BILLS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probbly cut him. He cost's too much. I know that the cap hit is still 3m, but if I owned the team I wouldn't part with 4+mil. for TKO, and I'm less thrifty than R. Wilson -

Why are the past drafts "Marv's" but the new drafts not "Jauron's". I think of the drafts from the Polian years as "Polian's" or maybe "Polian & Butler's". Also that back, I think, was the big pouter Greg Bell who I think was holding out. If he just ran the ball instead of concentrating on being a dlck, he probably would have been kept. -

Yes. I have mentioned this before. That is why I hope they draft a RB in the 1st. The offense has to progess. If it were to take a step back it could take the whole team down. Losman loses confidence, veterans all pissed off, defense starts pointing fingers.....basically 2005 all over again. The new core (Losman, Evans) might never recover. Bring in a new qb blah, blah, blah. I don't think the defense will be any worse than last year. I don't think they will miss Fletcher, and TKO will be better or replaced by some who will probably be at least as good as he was this year, plus the young guys will be BETTER. The offense HAS to move FORWARD -
This board is deteriorating fast. Just silly rumors.

If Jauron likes him so much why didn't he start him, or at least play him more? A 3rd round running back is a wasted pick, 2nd round is a needle in a haystack, first round is a crapshoot. -
My theory on our RB situation
Git'er Done replied to willis da illest's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would. None of the guys you listed are anything special (no one really knows what Turner can do). I keep posting that the teams that have won the Super Bowl almost all had 1st round running backs and everyone seems to ignore this FACT. Exactly why it seems to take a 1st rounder, I don't know. If you think it's a crap shoot in the 1st, it's almost a crap shoot in the dark with your bullet lost in a haystack in the 3rd. You decide if you want a back this draft and use the 1st, or you wait until another draft. -
Do we need to draft a Tight End?
