Because the Post Standard moves their articles after two weeks to their "pay to read" section, I'm cutting/pasting the entire article here....
Verizon to expand fiber's reach
Several communities will have fast Internet option and more will follow.

Verizon Communications has begun connecting households in Fayetteville, Manlius, DeWitt, Cicero and the east side of Syracuse to fiber-optic lines that can provide fast Internet connections, phone service and - some day - television programming.
Verizon has spent months stringing fiber-optic cable down the streets of those neighborhoods. Now technicians are attaching fiber lines to houses of customers who order its FiOS high-speed Internet service, a company official said Tuesday.
Not every household in the targeted areas is eligible for FiOS yet, but the service is "generally available in those communities," said Cliff Lee, speaking for Verizon. Technicians are still deploying fiber along some streets, Lee said.
FiOS offers Internet connection speeds ranging from 5 megabits per second, which is 40 percent faster than Verizon's DSL service, to 30 Mbps, which is 10 times faster than DSL.
The monthly price ranges from $39.95 for the 5 Mbps connection to $199.95 for 30 Mbps, with discounts for Verizon calling packages.
Company officials announced the availability of FiOS in Cicero last month, and said Tuesday it is available in the other areas.
In a related effort to expand its Internet customer base, Verizon announced Tuesday it is offering a low-cost DSL service for $14.95. The service offers connection speeds of up to 768 kilobits per second, compared with 3,000 Kbps for regular DSL, which costs at least $29.95 a month.
Verizon also announced its DSL customers will receive a free package of services Yahoo! Inc., including security software, parental controls and other features.
The low-cost DSL option is intended to compete with dial-up Internet plans, Lee said.
FiOS, on the other hand, is Verizon's attempt to compete with the so-called "triple play" offered by cable TV companies such as Time Warner Cable, which can sell customers a package including high-speed Internet, phone calls and TV.
For now, FiOS offers only the Internet and phone services; TV service will require cable franchise agreements with local communities. Lee said Verizon plans to pursue cable franchises.
Municipal officials in Cicero and Syracuse said the company has not applied for cable franchises in those communities yet.
So far, FiOS is available to customers with phone lines connected to Verizon offices in Cicero, Fayetteville and on East Genesee Street near Nottingham High School in Syracuse. Parts of DeWitt and Manlius are covered by those facilities.
To find out whether a residence is eligible for FiOS, customers can check at www. verizon.com or call (888) 438-3467.
FiOS for businesses is not yet available, Lee said.
Baldwinsville probably will be the next community in Central New York to get FiOS, said Chris Ryan, executive vice president of Communications Workers of America Local 1123, which represents Verizon workers. Line crews began installing fiber in Baldwinsville this summer, Ryan said.
Lee said he could not confirm what neighborhoods will get FiOS next but availability will be expanded.

I gave an artificial christmas tree to them back in June that the previous owner of our house left. The guy even said "what am I going to do with this?" I said it might not be a big seller now, but just wait till November.

under volcano, they forgot to warn about Pyroclastic flows. They are fast moving fluidized bodies of hot gas, ash and rock. traveling up to 100 miles an hour. The gas is usually at a temperature of 100-800 degrees Celsius.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyroclastic_flow
how do you prepare for that???
simple.
DONT BE THERE WHEN IT HAPPENS. cus its your own damn fault for living at the base of a freakin volcano. if you see it happen in person, you arnt going to out run it.
I saw South Park, all you need to do for a volcano is duck and cover.

Yep, I stopped by the dealership today and I'm eyeing up a used Pontiac Vibe. It's a six speed and was like driving a little MiniCooper but for a heck of a lot less. Gets 40 MPG. I think I'm gonna trade in the Dakota and get it....for 2.79 a gallon it's worth it, the car will be cheaper insurancewise and with heating costs going up and the long range folks predicting a cold winter I think it's the most practical decision. Sure, it's not as "manly" as an SUV but I've got my toy car when I need to have some fun.
We've got the sister vehicle to the Pontiac, the Toyota Matrix and we lot. It's our primary vehicle now. My Ford Ranger hasn't been really driven since April, because my new job provides a vehicle. Our Matrix is the auto, we get between 30-35mpg, depending on how much highway driving we do.

At work we are the point for 411 information and the Army in this area. So far tonight I have already taken two calls from people suggesting how the levees can be filled.
So far I got:
1. sunken barge with concrete.
2. containers dropped by helicopters.
My reply:
Thank you I will pass that on.
I read in the newspaper that they were going to try some of those large cargo containers filled with sand, not concrete. I also heard on one of the cable news stations (don't remember which one since I constantly change channels) that they were considering using some of the vehicles now under water.

Under winter storm, they forgot two important supplies. Beer while waiting out the storm, and a shovel for once it ends.

Today's the day for the east coast.
Just did mine, Equifax tries to sell add-ons, and TransUnion wants to create a user account to get your report.

They raise it in anticipation of having to pay a higher price for their next delivery. So it's a way of making sure they get the money now that they'll have to shell out later.

You can find those here.....

I'll take one of each please.

So I'd be a little concerned mostly of the outlet end sitting out in the open (with the fountain plugged into it) with potential exposure to elements. But wouldn't it be the same with any electrician-placed line? Or the method cincy describes? The other end is plugged into a GFCI outlet in the garage, so there is some security there.
Can you provide a link showing the fountain?

Wasn't there a player that commuted from Toronto to Buffalo a couple years ago?

On the way home, there are two gas stations at the bottom of the hill by my house. One was $2.99, the other was $2.75. I immediatly filled up at the $2.75 station. There wasn't really a line yet, but there was always one or two people waiting while everyone else pumped (an 8 pump station).
