McGee, Greer, Corner, Youboty, McKelvin and James on the outside looking in is how I got them ranked at CB but it wouldn't be the first time that Jauron favored the experienced guy even though he doesn't seem to play as well.
Strength is the easiest thing to correct- Bell mirrors really well and gets to the second level on running plays- he did get walked into the backfield once when a DE got underneath him but that was the only time I saw him get beat .
the Pats might just as well have come to Peters shortly after he was nominated to the Pro-bowl and said "hey we know you are underpaid so rehab and come back and pass a physical and we will pay you a little more than Dockery and if you make the Pro-bowl again we will work you a deal that pays the Ave of the Top five LTs"
Peters is going about this all wrong- He should have gone the Schobel route- you know " well this contract thing is weighing on my mind and it's effecting my play" in fact if I was Peter's agent I'd have him come in wearing white-face and a Marv Albert wig and play at half speed - when the media would ask him about it I'd have him say " my agent thought my best shot at getting paid was to convince the Bills I'm a mediocre white player" .
Bruce had a quicker first step but Reggie was the more powerful man- Bruce would have had more sacks playing in a 4-3 but Reggie could play inside at DT too. LT Amazed me with his power - listed at 230 he many times just bull-rushed OLinemen or tossed them aside- C Bennett was as fast or faster but never had his power-
when does that moving fee kick in - 7 games in Buffalo 1 in Toronto nope - 6 games in Buffalo 2 in Toronto nope- how about 4-4 what if they play 1 game in Buffalo
Trent Edwards had his best game- 9-11 and made quality throws- looked like a NFL QB
Robert Royal made some nice clean catches .
Lynch, Evans, Stroud, Whitner all looked good
Rookies: McKelvin gives the Bills another big weapon in the return game- Chris Ellis had a mixed game but showed he has talent
D Bell is much better than I expected- it's against second stringers but he can really mirror and can block down field - with his lack of strength I expected him to get manhandled at times but I haven't seen yet.
Ha Ha -when I write a moderate sensible post I get two replies if I write an over the top tongue in cheek post I get twenty replies - what does that tell you.
I never thought Edwards had below average arm- I do think he has a real dislike of taking a hit- and while Losman holds onto the ball too long I think Edwards gets rid of the ball a little quick sometimes.
wait wait isn't this the same board - where I hear Peters is over rated and not so great and the Bills should let him sit his fat ass down for a season because we don't need him.
Jason Peters to Philly for Shawn Andrews- Shawn Andrews is a good run blocker and you really only need a good LT if you have a QB worth protecting, Philly does Buffalo doesn't- Butler could go back to RT or Bell could play LT and Walker back to RT- Philly might go for this deal as Max Jean-Gilles has looked good at RG and LT Tra Thomas has had continuing back problems.
you can't tell everything from a preseason game but if you lose the majority of the line battles it tells you something- that Washington's linemen are much more physical than ours- maybe they are the best in the NFL and we are #2 but I doubt it - more likely they are average and we are below average.
I'm much more concerned with the fact that we been consistently losing the war in the trenches for years now- Jauron is going to the Super bowl with special teams and DBs? that will be a first- I think the Bills have tried to address this but they just haven't had too much success.
As I said all last year- JP isn't as bad as most people seem to think and Edwards isn't as good- they are both flawed- the problem is you have to get a little lucky to get a elite QB- My big criticism of the Bills is not correcting the lack of run blocking or bringing in a better TE - Adding a Fullback does not correct the fact the OL simple does not get push in the running game. If you are going with dink and dunk type passing game you need a strong running game and a TE that can exploit the middle of the field.
someone remind me why we had to pay these guys more- Williams just got destroyed on running plays and spent his time on passing plays jumping at the line of scrimmage as if he had a chance in heck of getting his stubby no hops hand up to block a pass- Brad Butler can't run block to save his life - is that no longer a requirement for a OG.
Some Points
1. The Bills looked very much like last year- very good special teams, an OL that pass blocks fairly well and can't run block, a defense that looks scrappy but still can't stop 3rd down plays and wears down late in the game- two QBs that are each flawed in their own special way.
2. Hardy and Fine showed some nice qualities
3. Move Bell to LT now and Walker back to RT and Chambers to the bench
4. Peters might have to move to DT when he comes back or OG or both
