  2. Jared Allen is the best DE in the game right now, unfortunately the Bills don't have the kind of scratch to afford him or to take a chance on him if he goes back to the bottle. But for the 14 games he played in last year he was the most dominating DE force in the game, especially considering the Chiefs crappy D-line. IN my eyes, The guy is a legitimately the best DE in all of the NFL last year.

  3. Brandon Flowers= Champ Bailey (High comparison, but his instincts and ability to step up and stop the run could elevate him to this level some day IMO)

Not sure I agree with you on this comparison and I love Flowers game, but the reality is he doesn't have the speed Champ Possessed. Champ ran between 4.3-4.4 in the forty time. Flowers ran a 4.55 not horrible but not the top end speed that Bailey has. Remember at Georgia Champ was used as not only a CB but also a WR and return man.

Flowers for a high end comparison I would look at Al Harris and for a low end maybe Bryant McFadden of the steelers. the Champ comparison I think is a bit unrealistic.

  4. With injuries so common in the modern era of NFL, there is no way in hell a professional football player will pass up guaranteed money; if Bills make him a respectable offer and the market rate prior to the season starting Lee will certainly sign on the dotted line. Get it done it already.

  5. Bills to face Miami in Toronto

    ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. —

The Bills and Dolphins will take their AFC East rivalry north of the border on Dec. 7, when Buffalo hosts Miami to kick off its annual series of regular-season games at Toronto.

The game, unveiled as part of the NFL schedule Tuesday, will be the first of five regular-season games Buffalo will play at Toronto's Rogers Centre, a downtown stadium with a retractable roof, through 2012. The Bills are also playing three preseason games, one every other year, in Toronto, starting with a game Aug. 14 against Pittsburgh.

The Bills received NFL approval to become the league's first team to play annual regular-season games outside the United States. It's part of the Bills' bid to generate additional revenue by expanding its market into Canada's largest city and financial capital.

The season opens Sept. 4 with Washington at the Super Bowl champion New York Giants, a game already announced along with three others from the opening weekend: Chicago at Indianapolis on Sunday night Sept. 7 and two games Monday night Sept 8: Minnesota at Green Bay and Denver at Oakland.

For the second consecutive year, a regular-season game will be played in London at Wembley Stadium, with New Orleans the "home" team against San Diego on Oct. 26. The Dolphins and Giants played there last season.

New England, which was upset in the Super Bowl by the Giants but has a record 19-game regular-season winning streak, will open at home against Kansas City on Sept. 7. In what has become an annual highlight game, Tom Brady and the Patriots will be at Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night Nov. 2.

  6. Question: If you took the CFL Grey Cup champion, and had them play your average NFL team in Canada, on a regulation CFL field, with only a day to prepare, who would win?

    PTR

This is actually very good question and I do not think the answer is as black and white as some posters make it appear. Stipulating that the NFL have only one day to prepare is what makes the issue debatable: I would say the CFL is significantly different than NFL (and the olympic hockey comparison doesn't do it justice, nor the triple A vs. MLB reference) first it requires 12 men instead of 11 so offense plays and schemes would have to be somewhat designed on the fly (likely just adding another WR to package and having him run a clear out route), moreover the defensive back formations would be confusing with CFL sets routinely sending out 6 pack of WRs. LB's at the CFl level are usually former college safeties who weren't fast enough to play the position in the NFL that being said guys like Angelo Crowell would have trouble adjusting to the coverage responsibilities of CFL LB (in fact I honestly think Coy Wire could become a great CFl linebacker if he is looking for job), the wider field also leads to different WR routes than the NFL you see a lot of flag routes in the CFL which I rarely except for that fantastic PLaxico Burress grab to beat the the Partriots in the SB. I would give an huge edge to CFL team based strictly on strategy (coaching staff would be able to make early in game adjustments to find out where NFL team is confused) IF it were the Bill's playing it might help to bring back Marv Levy as he was a former CFL coach with the Montreal Allouettes. QB's I think would tremendous problems adjusting to their reads and seeing an extra guy out there on defense.

But the one caveat is the physical advantage the NFL is bigger & stronger. I keep an eye on Current FB of the Washington Redskins Mike Sellers who is quite a solid player for the skins, but with the Winnipeg BlueBombers this guy was just a beast easily as bigger than as most of the DE in the game, it would usually take a gang to tackle him down in the open field, in the NFL Mike Sellers on T.V just looks like an average sized fullback. My prediction is it would be a close game honestly a coin toss, CFL would get a few early scores first and I think hold on for the win but if NFL players were smart enough to learn on the fly and specifically figure how to exact their physical advantage to churn on yardage they could just as easily prevail. I Would love to see it though.

  7. I think a lot of energy is wasted trying to determine whether so and so will be a reach/ or whether they will be around the bills draft. Or whether they fill a need or are the best player available.... So I thought I would name 5 players who I think will have nice NFL careers. I would encourage the Draftniks out there to do the same. here are mine:

    1. DT Trevor Laws, Notre Dame

    2. DB Brandon Flowers, Virginia Tech

    3. WR Mario Manningham, Michigan

    4. OT Carl Nicks, Nebraska

    5. DE/OLB Vernon Gholston, Ohio State ( I know he is a top 5 pick but I think the guy is destined to be an all-pro for years to come)

  8. I guess this was Cutler's last resort. Personally I don't think anyone should be called out in front of the media. I think you should always try and keep it in house. If you have some pointed criticism give it to the guy face to face. But reading the context of the article it sounds like this has already been tried so I guess this was the only option to take it to the media.

  9. Nice mock, here are some of my thoughts

Don't think the Falcons will select Matt Ryan I think they build around their defensive minded headcoach.

No possible way Vernon Gholston makes it past the Jets at #6 he is taylor-made for Mangini Defense. Did you see his proday 4.5 40time and 42 inch vertical leap. Personally I think Gholston goes top 3.

I'd expect the Ravens to look at CB even if Sedrick Ellis on the board(although I think he is gone at this point), especially with DRC or Mike Jenkins Aqib Talib still out there. Rex Ryan's aggressive defense is built on CBs that can lockdown and an aging Chris McCalister and Samari Roell I expect them to look for a CB. + the new headcoach is former defensive back coach as well.

For what its worth here is my top ten (might not go with this way but it should):

    1 Miami - DE/OLB Vernon Gholston

    2. Rams - RT Jake Long

    3. Falcons - DE Glenn Dorsey

    4. Raiders - RB McFadden I think I may be a victim of group think here (as there are better options for the raiders, then again Al Davis is Crazy) I guess I'll go with the herd

    5. Kansas City - DT Sedrick Ellis

6 New York Jets - DE Chris Long Steal Here

    7. New England - CB Leodis McKelvin

    8. Baltimore - Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie

    9. Cincy - RT Jeff Otah

    10. New Orleans - LB Keith Rivers (I could see how CB tempts then but they just signed Randall Gay)

Obviously my big one is Long falling out of the top 5 I also think its possible that Matt Ryan could fall completely out of the top 10.

  10. I'm out on Flowers, there's character issues with him and there is no way that I would like to see the Bills use two out of their top four picks on TEs. Read the notes on Flowers...he's trouble.

    http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr...donflowers.html

Gotta say I disagree on with you on Flowers I have not seen a corner back play as physical as he does and as good against the run since Quentin Jammer at Texas. As for the perceived character issues I'm going to classify the facebook incident as minor (same as Malcolm Kelly talking about drinking Krunk e.g. Booze + codein in his youtube rap - simply glorification of some aspects hip hop culture). Brandon Flowers would really help our run defence, and his lack of top end speed will be disguised in the cover 2.

Secondly, I'm not sure if your familiar with Cottam or Finley but the only similarity they have is being listed at TE completely different players... Cottam is a devastating blocker reminds me a lot of Mark Bruener and Kyle Brady he can take on DE's and LB and he is a good enough receiver that teams have to worry about him the red zone, I think he will be especially good in the play-action game.

Finley on the other hand reminds me of less polished Dallas Clark. Split him out he can run posts and uses his height + vert to go up and get balls over the middle, run a few bubble screens basically just have him attacking upfield at the safety so it become difficult to double Lee Evans on passing downs.

I can understand your hesitation at picking TEs with our 3rd and 4th pick but personally I have no faith in the current TE group. I don't see Teyo or Schouman panning out, C. Anderson is a stop gap guy IMO, Robert Royal can be an occasional contributer and I just don't know enough about Tim Massaquoi. The TE class while lacking the "can't miss prospect" is uncharacteristically deep IMO and I would like to see the Bills grab a couple guys if they could maybe not with the 3rd 4th pick but perhaps like with the 2nd (like most mocks on here) and then later on with a 6 depending on who is out there when the Bills draft.

  11. 1. Malcolm Kelly WR

    2. Fred Davis TE

    3. Brandon Flowers CB

even with Brandon Flowers mediocre 40 time I just don't see him being there in 3rd rd, we'll be lucky if he is there in the 2nd round. His game is suited for the Cover 2 defense reminds me a lot of Marlin Jackson. Here is my Mock:

    1. Sweed (to early for him based on the mocks I have seen but he will be the best WR in the class)

    2. Brandon Flowers

    3. Brad Cottam TE Tennessee devastating blocking TE best in the class in terms of blocking won't stretch the field the same way as Dustin Keller but we can count on his big frame in the redzone IMO.

    4. Jermichael Finley TE Texas developmental receiving TE

    5. Brian Johnston DE Gardner Webb( My sleeper pick - - might an NFL All-Pro)
