A Few Thoughts About The Game
Andrew in CA replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
YES.... why the 4 man rush ALL GAME?!!?! It was feckless, and they did not realize this all game. The run D was sound, the pass D was wholly ineffective. Pitiful D. Granted, the ST and the offense's turnovers exacerbated things, but let's be honest- the D did not step up when the team needed it to. I liked the energy at the beginning of the 2nd half, but it dissipated so quickly. Just frustrating. However, it's not the end of the world, need a W against SD in 2 weeks, boys! -
More interest in tickets this year
Andrew in CA replied to AlbanyBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've made it to the Jets game every year for the last 6 years, this will be the 7th, with only a few sprinkled in around Xmas if I can make it. I've never lived closer to Buffalo than Albany, so it's not been easy to go to a bunch of games. The *'s game is a possibility, but I won't know for awhile still. -
Still no baseball for Sirius, though? Not interested. The only things XM has that Sirius does not and are worth having is MLB and rap. Sirius is superior in every other way.

Holy ! http://deadspin.com/5059046/lineman-choose...on-over-surgery I don't know if this is the stupidest decision ever or incredibly honorable. It takes some cojones, that's for sure. My favorite part: “I was pissed,” Wikre said. “Trace [his girlfriend] was going to make chicken and potato salad and we were going to watch Iron Man. I missed out on all of that.”

Dark Hollow is up there (couldn't find a dead version on youtube, so here's weir and keller williams playing it ), as is Bird Song (already mentioned) and Deal ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3GNbUQ1hyw...feature=related ), but Jack Straw takes the #1 spot for me ( ). It's one of my favorite songs by any band, for that matter.

You're right that the 8 team leaves room for more complaining, especially by the non big conference teams. If they could even drop two ooc games, then I think you're idea of including all champs plus 2 at large's would be the best. Now, I don't know about the $ aspect or feasibility in terms of students' academic schedules , but I think it would be the most fair and most exciting.
-
I think a Plus One would be a good compromise for now, but I still prefer a playoff system that includes all the BCS conference championship winners- it think that system would leave the least amount of room for complaints, would be the most fair system, and increase the intensity of all conference games, which I agree with you is important. Seeing a Plus One in action, I believe, would be a step in the direction to a larger playoff. I think a Plus One should be instituted, though, if there is trepidation about revamping the whole system to an 8 team playoff.

I see your point, but the paucity of regular season college football games necessitates a crapload of rivalry games, no? Going by BC's schedule, there are 12 games in the season, 8 of which are conference games. 75% of games would be rivalry games, and if we were to get rid of one out of conference game to make room for the playoffs, then there would be only 3 boring games per year. Also, you are correct that it would be much less likely an unranked would knock USC, or any big team, out of a playoff, but it would also ratchet up every conference game thereafter- USC would not be able to afford to lose another conference game, lest they miss out on a conference title, therefore keeping them out of the playoffs. In my mind, the issue for a playoff is that it is the most equitable system when there are so few games played. I feel that the relationship between games and knowing which teams are the best is direct- ie, the fewer games played, the less we know which teams are the best. The more games played, the more we know which teams are the best. Since CFB is the sport with the fewest amount of games, I think it needs a playoff.

I disagree with this. In any tourney system, I assume the polls would be kept intact, a la College Hockey and Bball. The intensity was due to the fact that a #1 team was coming into an opponents' house, always a cause for intensity for the home team. When Duke visits Wake Forest, with Duke being #1 and WF being unranked, there is no doubt an intensity, although a loss for Duke would not knock them out of title contention. I think intense games would remain intense due to the ranking and the rivalry aspects. Also, who's to say a loss wouldn't knock USC out of playoff contention rather than championship? Is that not as important?

I love how Peter King just can't pick us to win this year
Andrew in CA replied to marioc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Did he actually pick the Bills to lose against the Rams? That's just dumb. I don't think he's totally offbase with this prediction, and if it in fact comes down to the last drive, by either squad, I'll be happy, b/c Bills D>Cards O and TE>Cards D -

I agree w everything you said, but I think Biden's the kind of guy that just can't help himself. A slip of the tongue remark, or maybe even an unintentional euphemism (lipstick on a pig?! OMG !!11!one!!) could ruin the whole debate for him.

Too soon! What was with all the crying from Trey a few years ago for?! Jeezus, stop playing with my emotions! I finally put them to rest and now they're back?! Dang it, I'm putting on Junta

Is Media Favoring Obama?
Andrew in CA replied to molson_golden2002's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I remember a question posed to Noam Chomsky once, essentially "which papers does one need to read?" Chomsky answered something to the fact of "for as much as I skewer NYT, it's a must-read, because no other paper has the resources to deeply cover the amount of news that NYT can." -
I think you're right re: the schedule giving Johnson an opportunity, and I do think we'll see him active and in a few plays. I know I'd like to see him out there, I think he can play, and I think the coaching staff thinks they've got something as well, or else why keep 6 WR's on the team.

I don't think this will be a HUGE loss for the offense because the Bills don't really utilize speedsters down the field right now. In other words, TE is throwing shorter, 10-15 yard passes. Now, Parrish can make YACs pretty well, but it's not an essential part of the offense. Hopefully, Hardy, Jenkins, and/or Johnson can step up and there is all the incentive in the world for them to do exactly that. The Bills will find out who can play. The schedule isn't against top defenses, IMO, up until arguably the *'s, by which time Parrish could be back. I just feel that it's not a devastating blow, and may show what the Bills have for other options. They will be somewhat limited, to be sure, but moreso in YAC rather than overall completions. Also, look for Royal to get more in the games now (if he's able) as another short yardage option. I would wager that the Bills will focus more on 5-10 yard passes, more out and comeback routes than stretching the field, which isn't really at the top of their gameplan anyway.

The Spooky Correlation between
Andrew in CA replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
.... it would be sweet, sweet revenge!!!!!!!! There would be no happier moment in my sports life to see a Bills SB victory over the F'n Cowgirls. If we did make it the the big game, I'd want to face a former SB opponent, it would make it even sweeter. -
Wow, CBS has awful games this week...

The only palatable non-Bills game this week is Bal @ Pit, and that's borderline. -
