Waive Kelsey, draft Quinton Coples DE North Carolina
BobChalmers replied to TheKidd's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm assuming if healthy (big "if") Merriman could well be a starting DE. I don't think he (or Kelsay) will play anymore LB. Johnson is really just a DT. Agree Edwards is gone - he doesn't have a position in this scheme except maybe DT of which we now have 6. -
I was just commenting to a Jets fan last weekend - "THANK GOD WE GOT RID OF THOSE UGLY RED HELMETS!!!" So, uhm, no. The red ones looked like absolute crap. The new uniforms are wonderful.

why our 3/4 didn't work
BobChalmers replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We had a 4-3 DT playing OLB. It's all about the talent/players. -
Nice quote from Wannstedt on the defense
BobChalmers replied to Mike in Syracuse's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Apparently it was for Geroge Edwards who decided instead to screw up the career of a solid veteran Defensive TACKLE by moving him to OLB. Spencer Johnson should sue for screwing him over like that. -
Buddy unintentionaly rips Sanchez
BobChalmers replied to DaveinElma's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was just talking to a Jets fan today here in Maryland (he's from LI - his son plays on the same college lax team with mine) and one of the first things he said when he saw my Bills shirt: "Why did my Jets just spend all that money to extend a not very good QB??" Seriously - Buddy Nix will have to get in line to rip Sanchez - Jets fans and Sanchez's own teammmates are tired of him! -
Heard the Vikings are looking to trade J. Allen
BobChalmers replied to NastyMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You forgot the special edition graphic novel where they use their super-speed-rushing powers to go back in time and actually WIN those four SB's in the 90's!!! I mean - how hard would it be for those four? But, no, I am pretty sure Jared Allen's salary would have a lot to do with why the Vike's would want to trade him. -
How Much Cap Space Is Left
BobChalmers replied to DefenseWinzChampionshipz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Guess I'm saying that I'm on the same page with Nix in thinking they really are just a couple of guys away from division contender ASSUMING less injuries. Put another way - I believe Nix thinks they should have fewer injuries this year (because last year was worse than normal) and therefore the Bills are better than a "6-10 team" which is why he thought it was worth pulling the trigger this year on the mega deal for MW. AND therefore OBD may be a little less concerned with depth than those of us who see them lose a ton of guys to injury far too often. Not to dispute that - as they've said - "you can always use more depth" - just that I don't think they're focused on it as much. -
How Much Cap Space Is Left
BobChalmers replied to DefenseWinzChampionshipz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We had a 3-0 team when we beat him that went on to 5-2 before the bodies started dropping. W/o the (yet another) flood of injuries we were headed to 10-6 last year. With Kyle Williams healthy and Mario in the fold the over/under on the Bills should be 11 wins. -
Did Jimbo Reveal Something About The Upcoming Draft
BobChalmers replied to Mr. T's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
OMG - that is one heck of a qualifier!!! I am surprised they aren't still reporting MW left town without a contract Tuesday night. Of course - now they have Billick and Baldinger going on about what a lousy waste of money it was for the Bills to sign him. We will literally never win with those no-brain front-runner fools until we actually win a Super Bowl or 3. I get that they focus on winners - what's annoying is how they give other bad teams a pass they don't give the Bills. ESPN and SI, on the other hand, are all over us now. It will be interesting to hear what Peter King has to say. -
Agree except for Carrington, who I would hope is being allowed to lose weight to get back to his proper college form as a 4-3 DE.

Why Stephen Hill WILL be the pick at number 10.
BobChalmers replied to mob16151's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nix already said he's not interested in interior OL - the same time he said they were going to be aggressive in FA this year and most of you ignored him. He said they need help at OT, that they can take an OT and move him inside if they have to, and they need a 2nd WR to go with Stevie. It makses sense - the team really started the collapse when both Bell and Hairson went down and they had to start moving Levitre all over the place. They're going with either OLT or WR depending on who falls to them. Mark it down. As for Hill - he's skyrocketed up the draft analysts' boards since the combine, for what it's worth. I think Mayock has him at #3 WR. Seems a little nuts for such a small body of work in college but his workout was pretty amazing. -
There is everything exceptional about the level of spending they are attempting here for this one player. Sure - maybe they should have done more other years - but that doesn't mean spending the most on a single defensive player in the league isn't a big decision. Their prior history only weighs on this psychologically - not mathematically or practically. By definition - it's the biggest risk ANY team of all 32 is taking on a single defender.

And how many people on this board tried to "educate" me on how "[i am] delusional if I think Nix has control of the money." blah blah blah? He obviously knew from the money guys that he had permission to go all out or he wouldn't have been talking up their FA aggressiveness for this season. Nix is a straight shooter, knows what the team needs, and has the backing of the management to do what he can to make them winners. It's not an easy fix - but I don't see what the current regime has done blatantly wrong to try to fix it. Maybe making the inexperienced Edwards the first DC was the one clear error - but even that they've addressed now. I have to say though - at this point (and price) I'm having mixed feelings about what I want to have happen. I'd sure hate to see them get locked into a guy who doesn't ultimately provide much. Don Banks' article (from the TBD front page but linked below) in SI was a pretty reasonable - and sobering - argument against Mario Williams. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/don_banks/03/14/free.agency/index.html?twobillsdrive

Other FA Signings Compared to Stevie's Deal
BobChalmers replied to Mr. T's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah - and and add in Garcon's deal with the 'Skins which is also positively rodiculous. Would you trade Stevie for Garcon?? I sure wouldn't. -
Oops - except he isn't leaving Buffalo tonight. Mind you, they still may (probably?) not get him. I tend to think you can't use your 1st rounder for need, but you're right we sure do need pass rush. W/O Mario, theyre going to have to get lucky/smart with their picks past round 1.

Mario Williams: Officially a Buffalo Bill
BobChalmers replied to buffalo_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Makes you wonder where hegets his information. This obviously false, unless Mario flew home, then back to Buffalo in time to have breakfast at the hotel, visit the stadium, and meet his fiancee at the airport. In that case La Canfora is spot on! -
SD was desperate because they didn't do what the Bills already did - SIGN THEIR OWN GUY! They overpaid. Bills didn't think Meachem was worth that much.

Robert Meachem visits Bills, signs with SD
BobChalmers replied to mrags's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
they aren't done yet - multiple WR's still out there... only one legit pass rusher though... -

Spot on. Doesn't mean we get Williams - but it doesn't mean we don't either. Hang in there Bills fans! -
Mario Williams: Officially a Buffalo Bill
BobChalmers replied to buffalo_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah - except that the national reports are also saying that the offers were already put out there and the Bills offered the most - which is why he's in Buffalo right now... Why in Hades must so many Bills fans insist on being so negative...? -
He said they have a good chance to win the division, he didn't promise they'd win the Super Bowl. He's also not a loud/foul-mouthed publicly foot-fettishing fat slob. That may play into it a little.

Mario Williams: Officially a Buffalo Bill
BobChalmers replied to buffalo_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really??? Because it'll go right back to hating, saying Ralph is cheap, Nix is too old, etc if after making Mario the top offer and flying him up to Buffalo, he still decides to go somewhere else?? Because at that point you really have to ask what the heck these so-called-fans want OBD to do. NIX HAS DONE EXACTLY WHAT HE SAID HE'D DO. If you've been on here previously doubting him, it's time now to kiss his old wrinkly butt.
