If you believe Buddy,....
BobChalmers replied to Stormin Norman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's true. They have the talent everywhere but at QB and LB to easily be a playoff team. Gailey has coached them right out of wins in three games now. This is odd and sad, because he was calling some good games his first two seasons. I don't know what's happened to him, but he's lost whatever edge he had. -
Goodell floats novel idea for replacing kickoffs
BobChalmers replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Given what they've done to kick-offs now, I think I'd actually prefer this crazy idea. -
Matt Flynn? [yet another QB thread]
BobChalmers replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really just don't get "humor" like this or the attitude behind it. Please name the bad trade Buddy made:... ... ... ... Yeah. Nix's draft results are mixed, but one thing you can't accuse him of is making crazy trades with his draft picks - in fact, a fair criticism might be that he's too conservative with them. Same here. I really don't think Quinn's gotten enough of a shot yet to write off. -
Joe Flacco - interested?
BobChalmers replied to DJasper Probincrux III's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's my view as well. OTOH If he were available, he'd be worth pursuing. He's never going to be the most accurate guy - the Bills would have to run a very different scheme to use him, but he's a better complement to their strong running game. Absolute cannon of an arm - prossibly the best deep-ball in the league. -
If the bills had drafted AJ green and andy dalton
BobChalmers replied to buffalover4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am not at all convinced Dalton would be worth a damn without Green. -
Fitzpatrick has to be in top three
BobChalmers replied to gjv001's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
...AND IF ONLY THAT WERE THE SAME THING AS ACCURACY. OMG, Honestly. Just watch the man throw, please. He's above, behind, in the turf. He's innacurate as hell, even when the receiver catches the ball, they are often so contorted reaching for it, or slowed on a ball behind them, that they can't get the yards after catch they should be. He also is running a scheme designed by Gailey to throw a lot of short easy to complete passes with the field spread horizontally. Fitz has always had terrible accuracy, and sadly, despite having a coach brought in specifically to help is sorry mechanics, he's actually regressed this season. -
Add me to the list. I had been a supporter but today put me over the top after a string of badly coached games.

Chans Presser - Poorly called plays comment?
BobChalmers replied to Hammered a Lot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Billick would take the job (or any head coaching job) in a heartbeat. But besides a guy like Billick who has been on the outside for a while, how is this not an appealing job? They have talent at most positions now and no track record to live up to immediately. The GM/Owner HAVE spent money on players. QB and LB are the glaring weaknesses that they would have time to fill with their own guys. Most any potential head coach would take that. Having said that, Gailey will still probably get to pick his own QB next year, and Wanny will be allowed a season to add some LB's the team so obviously needs. -
Looking ahead to the Colts next Sunday

We need Indy's receivers to drop a bunch of Luck's passes the way they were yesterday @ NE. Cripes that kid is good. Sure he made mistakes here and there, particulary when they got in a huge hole, but many of his passes are so perfect it's frightening. -
The team is not out of Playoff Hunt
BobChalmers replied to djp14150's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I said before the Titans game that that was the game that would decide their season, and I was worried about the attitude of the team sounding in interviews like they were looking past it to the bye. The current standings only add to that - The Bills will finish 8-8 or 9-7 and TENN will be the game they should have won that would have gotten them in. -
Some of us old folks might argue that point! Kelly was the only HoF QB, but Jack Kemp and Joe Ferguson were definitely "franchise" guys who led the team for a lot of years and to a fair bit of success!

He's not going to be there after 10.

QB's are more important than LBs, and though the Bills need more help at LB, the real question, as always, is whether or not there even IS a game-changing QB available in the draft. There really are years with none. Friends, I give you the first round of the 2007 draft: There are 3 sure HoF players on this list, and a couple more with a chance if their teams start winning SB's. Both of the two QB's in the first round were total busts. One of the 3 Hall of Famers was the MLB Patrick Willis. Arguably, Trent Edwards (3rd round) was as good as any QB in this class, although I'll still give Kolb (2nd round) the edge. 1 1 JaMarcus Russell Raiders QB Louisiana State 2 2 Calvin Johnson Lions WR Georgia Tech 3 3 Joe Thomas Browns T Wisconsin 4 4 Gaines Adams Buccaneers DE Clemson 5 5 Levi Brown Cardinals T Penn State 6 6 LaRon Landry Redskins DB Louisiana State 7 7 Adrian Peterson Vikings RB Oklahoma 8 8 Jamaal Anderson Falcons DE Arkansas 9 9 Ted Ginn Jr. Dolphins WR Ohio State 10 10 Amobi Okoye Texans DT Louisville 11 11 Patrick Willis 49ers LB Mississippi 12 12 Marshawn Lynch Bills RB California 13 13 Adam Carriker Rams DE Nebraska 14 14 Darrelle Revis Jets DB Pittsburgh 15 15 Lawrence Timmons Steelers LB Florida State 16 16 Justin Harrell Packers DT Tennessee 17 17 Jarvis Moss Broncos DE Florida 18 18 Leon Hall Bengals DB Michigan 19 19 Michael Griffin Titans DB Texas 20 20 Aaron Ross Giants DB Texas 21 21 Reggie Nelson Jaguars DB Florida 22 22 Brady Quinn Browns QB Notre Dame 23 23 Dwayne Bowe Chiefs WR Louisiana State 24 24 Brandon Meriweather Patriots DB Miami (FL) 25 25 Jon Beason Panthers LB Miami (FL) 26 26 Anthony Spencer Cowboys DE Purdue 27 27 Robert Meachem Saints WR Tennessee 28 28 Joe Staley 49ers T Central Michigan 29 29 Ben Grubbs Ravens G Auburn 30 30 Craig Davis Chargers WR Louisiana State 31 31 Greg Olsen Bears TE Miami (FL) 32 32 Anthony Gonzalez Colts WR Ohio State

Yuck. Who's our OLT after this - Hairston??? And what do our CB's look like when Aaron Williams in the initial number 1 CB?? We are much better off with the draft as is. Tannehill looks OK, but I wouldn't trade Glenn and Gilmore for him straight up today.
-
Because? What about the current regime has given you any indication they aren't willing to pay for the players they think help? $100M for Mario not enough for you? Or are you now trying to start a "RALPH SPENDS TOO MUCH!!!" thread to go with all the "RALPH IS CHEAP" posts??
-
YOU CANNOT POSSIBLY THINK THE SECONDARY IS WORSE THAN THE LINEBACKERS. Gilmore a bust? WTF? The safteties have regressed?? OK, Wilson looks a little old. This team has half of its wins because of Jairus Byrd.

Spiller is effing rediculous
BobChalmers replied to Over 29 years of fanhood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love CJ, but honestly, I thought he had a pretty bad game last night - he really reverted to trying to take too many cuts. Beyond what even Mayock was pointing out, I saw a bunch of cases where holes were there if he just ran straight ahead, but he got himself running sideways too often and waited too long to turn up field. -
I usually disagree with the Chan detractors
BobChalmers replied to Chilly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with bascially everything on this thread - 3rd down playcalls, overuse of Choice in the critical situations, the pointlesness of their Wildcat, and the positive fact that Chan puts together a good playbook and gets a lot of yards out of questionable talent at some positions - we're all seeing the same things - something's going wrong in Chan's head causing some silly play-calling. I'll add this - I don't remember this happening much (except for Choice and the failing Wildcat) if at all; last year - I'd love to know what's changed. If I owned an NFL team I would walk down to the sidelines and fire my coach right in the middle of the game if they lined up empty-backfield on 3rd and short. Why in Hades would you give up the threat of a run, particularly when your team is among the best running the ball? -
The other problem with Fitz is he is innaccurate and even on his completions he is throwing above and behind his receivers which prevents them from making the plays they should even when they do catch it. The YAC is coming from the scheme - it would be much higher if he were a more accurate passer. Moreover, the running game would be even better if he could generate a deep threat - but he can't. Fitz isn't the worst part of the team - that dishonor goes to the LB's and it's not even close - but he's more of a liability than an asset, which is to say, he's in the bottom half of the league.

Thursday Game will dictate the rest of our season

THIS - I said it before the Tennessee game and I stand by it. That was the game they had to win. -
Positional Needs for DraftTek - November
BobChalmers replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
BINGO. I believe the reason the pass rush (which HAS improved) is disappointing is because teams can beat our LB's all day long with quick throws before Mario and company have a chance to do anything. A LB has to be able to cover for a couple of seconds - they also have to be able to shed the occasional block and make a tackle. ILB/MLB should be the top priority - with QB right up there - followed by more LB's. I'd rather give Brooks, Rodgers, and even McKelvin if they resign him another shot before using another high pick on a CB when they need LB's and a QB so badly. For those who mention Safety - I think that's where we will see Aaron Williams line up next year - the possibility that he was more safety than CB was always an issue. -
They are audibling to a RUN play when Brady barks that. Scott made some nice plays in pass-D - noone expects him to be a run-stuffer. My problem with Sheppard as a long-term answer at MLB is that the better MLB's can play 3 downs, and since he cannot get playing time on passing downs, while Barnett can (even while playing poorly) then Sheppard is clearly terrible on passing downs.
