  1. Seriously - I don't understand why people here have any interest in the Polians. Bill WAS great, but he's too old to have that big a job now, and his son's reputation is horrible.
  2. Well, in football terms - Elway won two Super Bowls by having the sense to hand the ball off. I love the guy, but Jim Kelly lost Super Bowl 25 by doing EXACTLY what we have all been railing against Chan Gailey for - calling pass after pass while Thurman Thomas was racking up 10 yards a carry on way too few carries. This argues for keeping him away from the coaching - the management is a giant unknown - and Kelly IS a great competitor and a winner, and that's all good.
  3. Wow I hope you are wrong. That would probably be the worst possible outcome. My favorite part of this if true is the timing - do it immediately and get in the front of the line for a replacement.
  4. I think this is a fair assessment - but as you said - THIS season the resutls were bad, and Chan's coaching in particular looked really bad in the process. Bad game planning, bad time management, bad appearance of player preparation, and a brutal mishandling/misunderstanding of his talent - eschewing Spiller for Fitz and Freddy. The last point - just way he screwed up with Spiller - is damning enough to fire him. On top of that, the guy looks fried out there, understandably so, but that's not continuity anyone wants - maybe not even Gailey. I know Nix said earlier Gailey was safe - but things got a lot worse since he said that. The Rams loss and the coaching failures that led to it, followed by the Seattle embarrassment, I think set Gailey up to be fired. I think he knows it too.
  5. Well, I will admit that he has reputation/credibility PLUS plenty of belly-fire by all appearances. Both would be new to the Bills from decades now.
  6. I really hope not. I view Gruden as VERY overrated. He took Tony Dungy's ready-to-go team to the Super Bowl and used his inside knowledge of his opponent (the Raiders) to spy out their offense. The Buc's accomplished next to nothing in the remainder of his tenure.
  7. Yeah - what's up with that? He's always had spotty arm strength and poor throwing accuracy, but I don't remember him making this many bad pocket decisions in prior years. Heck, wasn't his pocket presence what won him the job over Trent Edwards? This season, multiple times each week Fitz seems to ignore huge available spaces to slide to and just folds up. That, and now when he does move out, he doesn't ever seem to throw it - are there really no open receivers even when he starts scrambling?
  8. Yeah - my take is I'd be happy to have him for a year or two while we try to find a real starter. The 2013 draft class being what it is, we need a Plan B at QB for next season, and I would rather it be Tebow than Fitz at this point.
  9. This entire article is speculation based on a Nix quote from November 2.
  10. He's too old guys - have you seen him interviewed recently? He was handing the Colts to his son which is a big part of why they fired him. I'm not talking "age" (or age discrimination) here guys - I'm talking about you can tell he's slowing down - a lot. Yeah - he WAS an awesome GM. Right now there's nothing to discuss regarding Polian.
  11. Quoting your own tag-line, the Bills have a very good backup QB on the roster - Ryan Fitzpatrick.
  12. I would both like and guess Billick. He wants the job, he has credibility. He's an offensive guy who knew how to work with a good defense and DC and let them do their thing while supporting them. Mind you - Gailey has a lot of similar qualities - but he lacks the SB ring and credibility that goes with it, and Gailey is clearly fried. Billick should be refreshed and ready to go - he's been spending all his time relaxing and watching game films. "Know" is a strong word, but Nix's most recent interview comments were not encouraging for Gailey. Sorry I don't have a link.
  13. I'm fine with firing him AFTER the season.
  14. And don't forget, Polian was putting his less-than-effective son in charge of everything in Indy, which is precisely why they fired him. If you think Nix is old - listen to a Polian interview these days. He's in no shape to be a GM anymore.
  15. How many did Donohoe hire? Just Williams and Mularkey, right? Levy's FA moves were so brutal he didn't stay long enough to hire Jauron's replacement.
  16. OK - I think the meaning was "IN-season". It would be stupid to fire him rather than wait until after the season is over. All that does is make the franchise less appealing to potential hires. Moreover, I should think Buddy needs to figure out for sure how much of what is wrong with the defense is on Wanny vice the players.
  17. I don't doubt that Nix is still here next year - but the question was about Gailey. What makes you think Nix isn't giving up on Chan now too? Just because they both have southern accents doesn't mean they are joined at the hip. Good point but I doubt either of them saw this complete a collapse coming. Nix is allowed to change his mind based on events. I also think those comments came before Gailey started really going nuts on not calling Spiller's number. That's been a national embarrassment I can't believe Nix is unaware of.
  18. This is the important point to remember. Embarrassing Chan doesn't help us get a better coach to replace him. Buddy will wait until the season is over. I give Gailey about a 40% chance of being back. A more interesting question - what to do with Wannstadt. As bad as Gailey has looked on game-day, etc., the defense has looked worse. Do they blame the coaching for that on OBD?
  19. That's the way to go if possible.
  20. What? Cut the guy the Bills took in the third round??? Who did Seattle take in the third.... I wonder....
  21. They are. There isn't an NFL LB on this team. Barnett is getting abused on nearly every run. He really should just retire. Mid-game would be fine.
  22. Thank you. Probably the most reasonable post on this thread, which means it's also probably wasted on the audience. I sure would have liked Cousins for a 4th rounder and I was really bummed when the Redskins took him - but how much would you give up for him now though? Surely not a 1st?
  23. That part is just wrong, sorry. Losman when the offense made sense for his talent, finished an entire NFL season rated #11 and Losman->Evans was as feared a deep ball combo as there was in the league. Then Dick "it's hard to win" Jauron retooled the offense for short passes and runs behind a bad OL, and Losman failed in the transistion. Edwards - in retrospect arguably the best QB in his draft class - played for the same lousy offense and an even worse OL than Losman had.
  24. I would love Te'o but I can't imagine he slides that far. The Bills desperately need a difference-making 3-down LB.
