  1. I don't think this is that silly at all. I'd rather have him on the bench than Thigpen.
  2. Sorry - I meant Jets D is more of a "46" not a 4-6. The "46" name has nothing to do with the DL/LB allocation.
  3. No they are 1-2 pieces short for a 3-4 as opposed to the 2-3 short for the 4-3 they tried to run, check your own list. The difference is we'd rather have Carrington on the field starting in the base package than any of the "NFL players" currently lining up at LB. 3-4 base lets the Bills do that, 4-3 base does not. (This is possible assuming Anderson can play OLB in a 3-4.)
  4. You should read this too regarding the Jets defense .. not really a 3-4 but more of a 46. Posted elsewhere but copied here for your convenience. http://www.scardraft...anHybrid46.html Interestingly, 2 of the top players the writer called out in the 2011 draft for this scheme are on the Bills (Dareus at DE and A. Williams at FS).
  5. DeHaven's good but did you know Bobby April is back on the street with Reid having been canned in Philly?
  6. Heaven forbid Mario play a position (3-4 OLB) where he got 5 sacks in 5 games in 2011!! Why should he name anyone assistant HC?
  7. What is really exciting about this - it's fully public that Pettine wants to escape Ryan's shadow. My take is he's going to be severely motivated to outshine his old boss.
  8. We only ran the last "scheme" for one season, did it poorly, and, oh by the way, we fired the guy who came up with it. In other news, it was awful. Pettine and his team have been flexible as heck over the years, btw.
  9. I'd have a problem with him if he was 13. He couldn't buy the beer OR be the designated driver... Just sayin... My only serious concern is if this is another Curtis Modkins hire - IE, the thing I was most happy to hear from Marrone was that he's going to be the CEO - not the de facto OC the way Gailey was. At least Marrone's still not calling the plays, so I guess I'll just trust this isn't a contradiction. Hackett has the pedigree, obviously, so I imagine he brings plenty of his own ideas to the table.
  10. There's a few threads on this already. Mario was a 3-4 OLB his last season in Houston though, to answer your specific question. Had 5 sacks in 5 games before he tore his pectoral.
  11. Mario, Anderson, and Merriman all become OLB's in a 3-4, so we actually would be short FEWER LB's in that alignment. Sticking with a 4-3, we are really desperate for a stud 3-down MLB. He's not on the roster, and Manti Te'O shattered my dreams that he was that guy on Monday night (P-U he stunk!!!). It might actually be easier to come up with capable ILB's, particularly if Bradham can be one of those guys. OTOH, I don't know for a fact that Anderson CAN play OLB - he has the body and speed for it, but my understanding is he hasn't actualy done it, and he's way too small for a 3-4 DE. See Chris Kelsay from two years ago - no position at all from one of your top-paid DL's is a bad idea for a new scheme. "Too much change in one year" is kind of out the window, regardless - they only played the current base scheme for a year, and they looked pretty bad doing it, and oh, btw, Wanny was fired. Whoever they hire is going to have their own scheme(s).
  12. I'm embarrassed that it took me a minute, but that's really funny - bravo, sir! Seriously - how can that even be a question at this point - he's still available, and I haven't heard any other teams trying to get him.
  13. That's the point though - he is by no means a lock to go 1 or 2 even among QB's. He has something to prove still if he wants to be at the top of the draft boards. Kiper has him 3rd among senior QB's. Scouts Inc. has him at #23 overall. Take it up with them, and stop pontificating to us that it's a no-brainer, because it's obviously not.
  14. Kiper has him as his #3 QB right now: http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft2013/story/_/id/8802529/2013-nfl-draft-mel-kiper-top-5-senior-nfl-prospects-every-position Scouts Inc. has him as the #23 player overall: http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft CBS has him as the top QB going #4 overall to the Eagles: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft He's going to be a first-rounder, but my point is, if other guys shine in the Senior Bowl and combine, he could fall.
  15. Right so don't compare Smith's justifications for not playing int he senior bowl or partiocipating in the combine. Smith is in the 20's on most mock draft boards, and he hasn't helped himself with his performance on the field in months.
  16. Interesting question, since he just handled Smith pretty easily in their bowl game, I doubt Marrone could have been too impressed.
  17. Are your seats any good? I may take them. They actually have better personnel for a 3-4. Since Mario and Anderson (probably) and Merriman can all play OLB. Explained numerous places including on wgr.com - go look.
  18. ...he will "smell their breath to make sure they are still as I remember them... Well, as a means of checking familiarity with old friends, I guess that's better than smelling their butts canine-style.
  19. What top QB?? Geno Smith is no Andrew Luck or RG3. He's nuts not playing - particularly after stinking up his bowl game, Smith has a LOT to prove. He will plummet down the board if another QB (Glennon, Nassib, Wilson) shines. Try more like #23 pick. He is not going #1, and this stunt will likely prevent him from even being the #1 QB in a very weak class.
  20. Actually, wasn't his recent celebrity dating experience with Eva Longoria, who's in her late 30's I believe?
  21. I am with you until you dissed KW - playing DT with a pair of bad achilles tendons is no joke. It's conceivable his body is simply failing him after years of hard fighting in the trenches, but I am not seeing any good reason to doubt his effort. Similarly with Wilson - he may just be old at this point - nothing to do with effort from a guy who's done everything his coaches have asked for years now.
  22. Well, according to the numerous NFL players who have spoken up in praise of Morrone from their past experience with him as their coach, it sounds like you do it by being honest, setting high expectations, making those expectations clear, and explaining the reasoning behind what you are asking for. Several have pointed out that his experience as a former NFL player on the OL gets him a lot of credibility. Marrone is 6'5". He was an NFL offensive lineman, after all. No shock he's an imposing physical presence.
  23. Seriously - I tuned in hoping to see him look good and get excited about the Bills maybe getting him. HE PLAYED LIKE BUTT LAST NIGHT, and he looked intrinsically small, slow, confused, and weak while doing it. It makes no difference who the OL was, because even when he got to a ball-carrier unopposed, HE STILL BLEW THE TACKLES. Yeah, one game is not his career, etc., but that was the biggest game of his life so far and he either sucks or he was not prepared to play - neither makes me want him as a top-10 pick. Where I grew up, "couple" means "two" and we might cut you slack up to "three". Unless "a couple" means 10+ in your neck of the woods, you weren't watching the game very closely.
  24. Huh?? Rodgers only "fell" to #23 overall. Favre and Marino are from another era of football. Marino was competing with 5 other first-round QB's, two of whom went to the HoF, and he still went in the first at #27 - what the heck kind of "fall" is that?
  25. I'll take him too - in the second round - maybe. Jones looked good - and sadly the Bills may need a center/guard.
