  1. Yeah - the OP gets this - he's talking about the Bills "cheating" and raising a legal stink with the NFL. Ain't going to happen - tempting as it may be to several franchises. Al Davis is dead - otherwise I'd give him a 20% chance to actually try some stunt like this.
  2. Btw - it's not a "4-6" it's a "46". The number 46 refers to one of the Bears' safety's jersey number when Buddy Ryan ran this scheme back in 1985. The flexible play of this safety was the key to a lot of the scheme. They don't really use 6 LB's. Thank goodness, because the Bills don't have 2 LB's worth starting right now.
  3. I really don't think the Bills need a pass rushing OLB/DE nearly as much as they need a run-stuffing MLB/ILB who can also cover. Remember they still have Anderson hopefully coming back from injury, and Mario was rolling once he had his surgery, As for EJ Manuel, I seriously doubt he lasts to the 3rd round after his Senior Bowl performance, and I'd be nervous about the 2nd with teams like the Jets, Chiefs, and Eagles all picking in front of the Bills.
  4. This was evident in the Senior Bowl too - he panics with any pressure, and dumps it off too much, even when there is no real pressure. Basically he is a less accurate Trent Edwards. No thanks.
  5. And more of the same in the Senior Bowl. I would stay away from him. Since they are all big risks this year, I am actually starting to lean more towards Manuel. He has the biggest upside, and if they are all inconsistent, why not gamble for a big payoff? He looked like a man among boys in the Senior Bowl - all three South scoring drives were with him behind center. He has more command back there then the others, plus he's a bigger stronger athlete. I'm also for taking two QB's regardless of who they are. The Bills probably need THREE total since I don't expect Fitz to stay, and Brad Smith is not an answer.
  6. What makes you think Geno Smith is going remotely that high?
  7. This is just the dumbest thing I've seen in a while. Why in Hades would anyone give up a 1st round pick, much less a 1st and a 2nd, for a player IN THE FINAL YEAR OF HIS CONTRACT???? That would be STUPID, and Al Davis is dead, so it's not going to hapen. New England traded a FOURTH for Randy Moss. Marshawn Lynch was a THIRD.
  8. So if they cut everyone, sign Matt Moore, then draft Nassib at #8, does Matt Moore star in the sequel to Groundhog Day? As for the OP - sorry, I think you are way over-thinking the FA impact of an empty QB stable. The Bills will have an easier time attracting a Moore/Smith type of player with an empty roster - IE, a FA QB would take less $$$ for a clearer path to becoming a starter again. You are worried about the Bills being a weak position because they essentially have no fallback position - but they would - the fallback position would be every other FA and draftable rookie QB. Other FA's are all the competition the Bills need to get a fair deal from a QB. Fitz on the roster only counts as one QB in that bargain, and hurts with the possbility that the new guy thinks he can win the job.
  9. Another FSU fan/alum myself, I agree with all of this including appreciating Ramius' excellent report. I guess the best way to view Manuel in the context of the draft is he's probably the best possble SECOND QB to take. If the Bills were counting him to be the man, that would be bad, but as a "potential value" guy he might be among the best ever such picks.
  10. Banks was hardly that solid on Glennon for the Bills. He'd probably change his mind today if he had heard how poorly Glennon has looked in practice this week. He wrote ths purely on conjecture without having seen the Senior Bowl practice reports yet. "Just got a hunch that Glennon's size and arm strength will grow on NFL personnel men as the draft approaches." 11. That would be sort of depressing since they can't start for you for 10 years if you don't re-sign them!!!
  12. In fairness to Wilson though, please don't gloss over the fact that he took the Seattle QB job in camp over both Travaris Jackson (easy) and Matt Flynn (hard to beat out the guy they spent a fortune on). I happened to be out in the Seattle area on business when camp was happening this past summer and listening to their local radio Wilson was setting the world on fire from day one of camp. They designed the system to take advantage of him later, perhaps, but he was winning the job with their existing system. As for Cousins, I strongly suspect the Bills had every intention of taking him in the fourth and were probably as surprised as many of us were when the Redskins took a 2nd QB. He was one of the few QB's buffalobills.com was talking up before the draft.
  13. Tweeting Torey Smith about his dead brother?? Wow - that is a new low. Has anyone mentioned recently how nice it is the Ravens kicked their behinds?
  14. And Ravens too, right? OMG!! Jamarcus Russell is actually Rex and Rob Ryan's brother??? I'd rather bring back JP Losman or Trent Edwards or give David Carr a try for that matter!!
  15. I don't understand any position other than MAYBE QB being ahead of LB. WR? Sure, but nowhere near as needed as LB and QB. He listed them in that order? I guess WR is a bigger problem if Nelson can't come back? I just think it would be horrifying to go into yet another season w/o a HUGE upgrade at two LB spots and I don't know how you'd do that in the 3rd round and later. I'd actually rather suffer another year with FItz before I did that. I would argue there are several decent upgrades at QB from FA available, which is also part of why I am willing to wait a bit in the draft for one. Nix really should be fired if he's arguing he still needs a WR when he just traded up and skipped over QB's Wilson and Cousins to take TJ Graham, btw.
  16. If he thinks Chip Kelly is an A- he is discredited. I was seriously relieved when the Bills did NOT get Kelly. Talk about an underqualified risk. Prior to 4 years at Oregon he coached (as an assistant) at Columbia, Hew Hampshire, and JOHNS HOPKINS???? Does JHU even have a football team?? Only a few years as a H/C at any level, and suddenly he is the sexy pick for an NFL job?? INSANE. Look to the Eagles to be competing for the #1 draft pick the next couple years.
  17. He's consistenly inconsistent. I don't know if that's fixable with time/coaching. When he's on he's amazing though. I guess that makes him a bit like Cam Newton - who, bizarrely, is one of the least appealing of the new QB's from the last two years, right? Who would you rather have - Newton? Or Luck, RG3, Wilson, Kaepernick? I would submit any of the last four seem like better prospects right now.
  18. You mocking the media or being serious? Lewis' words on the field seemed to go way beyond what I'd heard Tebow say/do. Tebow seems pretty focused on his own thankfulness for his own opportunities win or lose. Lewis was implying God was on the side of the Ravens winning the game. I'm not terribly offended by any of it, but Lewis' seemed pretty clear that God was helping his team win ball games and I find that presumptious at best. I suspect there are plenty of good prayers being said in most locker rooms - and most post-game kneel-downs prove that out. To take the attitude that your team is more favored is kind of obnoxious.
  19. Kiper has him "rising" all the way up to the second round.
  20. Being an FSU guy, I can tell you you can't appreciate Manuel's limitations watching highlight films, because the guy's BIG problem is his lack of consistency. Having said that, he IS a tremendous athlete, and I would have no problem drafting him somewhere 2-3 but I'd have a plan B in case he needs seasoning or just plain busts because he can't get more consistent.
  21. Bradham is the exception that proves the rule. His physical play is especially noticable on the Bills' roster.
  22. Yeah - that's fair really - when they brought him in, they hadn't given up on Fitz yet, and all they had behind Fitz was Thigpen. (TJ == Fitz) > Thigpen Agree with others regarding Matt Moore - the guy's pretty underrated really - he's one of the better FA options out there, assuming Flacco is re-signed. You could argue Moore over Alex Smith with a lot of credibility.
  23. At the QB position I think that's practically a given. From most mocks, etc. out there, it looks like the talent is defense-heavy anyway. Luck was a once in a generation prospect - better prospect out of college than any QB since Elway - yes that includes P. Manning, who had a few small question marks. Luck had none. RG3 was a damned good prospect. 1983 was 30 years ago, so yeah, at QB for sure you don't get drafts like this, pretty much ever. Have we mentioned how horrendous it is Nix didn't get Wilson or Cousins??
  24. You'd think that because you are a reasonable outside observer - but this pattern of "deny first, than cover up as possible" didn't start with Penn State. Politiicians pull this stunt time after time, it always ends up making things worse for them in the end, and none of that stops the next guy from trying it.
