Bills ranked 29 out of 32 in new poll
BobChalmers replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills are listed below 3 teams they beat last year - Cleveland, Arizona, Chiefs. The Bills have beaten the crap out of KC two straight years now, and every time they are the underdog. This is all small compared to the issue that the Bills keep stinking at ~6-10, but it's still irritating that national buffoons keep exaggerating HOW bad the Bills are and discount what they do well. "We still like the 1-2 punch of C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson, but that’s pretty much where it ends." Really? So you don't like Kyle Williams, Stephon Gilmore, Mario Williams, or Stevie Johnson? I have $20 that says this "writer" couldn't name the Bills young CB. He credits New Orleans with improving their defense with the hiring of the perpetual mediocrity Rob Ryan as DC (look his stats up - to NFLN's credit they did and ripped him big time), but I guess is ignorant of Mike Pettine? -
Pettine's favorite flavor is not "vanilla"

The "Eagle 2-5", something the Rams ran back in the 80's(?) when they had so many DL injuries they couldn't do much else. -
Sullivan on WGR this morning
BobChalmers replied to Ramblin' Rob's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it does to some extent - one reason I am much happier getting (former NFL player) Marone than (former JHU assistant) Chip Kelly. See also Gregg "Cobra Kai" Williams. -
"Pettine's guys turn Gilmore into Revis" An over-priced oft-injured PITA who asks for a new contract every 2 years? Scan the AFC East right now - Pettine or no - who is better than Gilmore? My point being, Gilmore is already good - don't underestimate him by wishing for Pettine to turn him into someone.

What is Brad Smith's role this year?
BobChalmers replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A "veteran presence" is of absolutely no use to a talented young WR you had to cut to keep this guy. Not trying to hate on Smith, but I think too many of the young guys are stepping up to use a spot for him. -
Guard position battle not going so hot

Thanks for your service to our country! (I assume you have been out of contact in Afghanistan or somewhere since your post would be spot-on 4 years ago, but is pretty off-base in 2013.) -
Johnny Manziel: "Too many red flags."
BobChalmers replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in College Football
Way to miss the point completely. The issue isn't that he's drinking/partying etc. The issue is that Manziel has demonstrated that he is an IMBECILE. Only an imbecile would choose the Peyton Manning camp to party himself into a hangover. Only an imbecile would brag about his partying all over Twitter. Drinking isn't a disqualifier. STUPID is a disqualifier for a top NFL QB. And yes, combine that with his already lacking size/strength and there is no way this kid is a high pick a team wants to count on anymore. -
Manny Lawson article

Your credibility may have dropped below zero with this line alone. You could not have watched any Bills games last season. Barnett was the worst player at any position on the field last year - it wasn't even close. It was so obvious to the Pats* that Tom Brady once ran an entire TD drive where he specifically targeted Barnett (successfully) with either a pass or run EVERY SINGLE PLAY. Barnett was THAT bad. He used to be pretty good, bu the hit the age wall hard and he is gone as he should be. -
I hope Dustin Hopkins wins the kicking job
BobChalmers replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So Astro, have you read what you wrote and wondered (as I do) why you are at all conflicted?? You make a pretty strong case to go with Hopkins. Lindell has been in decline and it showed last year - the Bills just grabbed the top college kicker - keep the kid and don't look back. -
How Long Have You Been A Bills Fan And When Did You Know?
BobChalmers replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Watching them lose to the Steelers in the 1974 playoffs on TV with my Great-Uncle George. I would have been 11 at the time. I mostly lived in Maryland already but still had lots of family in Buffalo. Brought the habit of watching them lose home with me and became an avid fan entirely by myself - even though it was rare I could watch a game. Twice a year against the Colts and an occasional lucky double-header. -
NFL.com Top 100 Players - Need some help with the premise
BobChalmers replied to C-Man's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed - if what you say is true, I have even more reason to hate my least favorite segment on NFLN. -
So are we a little less excited about the Branch signing now??

If you don't know - the issue with Lance is all the people he tried to destroy with lawsuits over his professed innocence, when he was FoS all along. He is scum of among the lowest integrity you will find.

EJ says this offense is easier than Florida State's ...
BobChalmers replied to Lothar's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
These two threads are in no way similar - suggest you reconsider and delete. This thread is specific to EJ's comments about the simplicity of the ofensee - IE it is more about Hackett and the offense that EJ as a player. -
Comparing Marrone to Gregg Williams is kind of insulting. Williams was a certifiable 100% blow-hard from the beginning with no NFL playing experience and no head coaching experience beyond HIGH SCHOOL. IE, he talked/acted tough to compensate for his total lack of actual toughness. It was somewhat apparent in Buffalo, and his behavior in NO he was eventually suspended for was hardly a surprise.

Bill Polian on Jerry Hughes

Dude I am a huge geek and that was too geeky a reference for even me to stand!!! -
Logic fail.

If I remember correctly, FSU's receivers couldn't catch a cold in 2011. Hands of stone - and Manuel was also injured part of the season. In fairness to his teammates in 2012 - they also have a young man by the name of James Wilder Jr. (if that rings any bells - it should - if not, you are too young to remember his father, the multi-pro-bowl Buccaneer RB) who is a beast of an RB, but too young for the draft this April.

You have nailed it, sir.

Bills' Post Draft Roster (as of 4-29-13)
BobChalmers replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I strongly suspect Travaris won't be on the final roster - he and the loser of Tuel/Corp will be gone. Manuel will be 2nd string. Winner of Tuel/Corp with be 3rd. -
Bolded, Italicized, and Underlined one hell of a big IF!!!! I'm glad they took the chance on him - just as I am glad they took a chance on Manuel for his upside - but I'm definitely NOT going to BANK on it.
-
Unfortunately for Nolan on that argument - he was high on Barkley and had him as a first-rounder. I don't believe I did that - so odd comment after quoting me. I do say the Jets are a dysfunctional circus - particularly in their handling of QB's. That puts me in line with roughly 98% of the reporters out there. My point relates to the OP in that by many accounts Geno Smith could use a less volatile situation - something which (the seemingly far more mature) Manuel will actually get from the Bills for at least the next 3 years or so.
-
Actually, some versions of these and/or related concerns WERE out there and that they were was a major sports news topic just a week ago. Other directly football-related concerns about Smith highlighted how bogus his stats were - 28.8% of his completions were behind the line (ESPN's Numbers Never Lie just ripped him on that Thursday before the draft - Compare with Manuel who had the highest yards/attempt of any of the top prospects). It was also clear Gruden wasn't impressed with Smith. There were three players I dreaded the Bills taking in the first round - the two guards (great players but why not resign Levitre instead unless we are spinning our wheels?) and Geno Smith. When you combine the question marks he already brings with the ever-more-ridiculous circus in the Jets organization I would now lay 3-1 Smith is a complete bust and out of the league in 5 or less years.
