Tyrod Taylor held to higher standard bc he's black ?
BobChalmers replied to Game Manager's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And the coaching staff was so unimpressed he was benched for the playoffs. I've missed where that was stated. Some may think it's just is a lousy excuse for being criticized for not doing one's job particularly well. -

"“It’s always going to be twice as bad just because of who I am – an African-American quarterback,” Taylor says, echoing a familiar refrain among people of color, regardless of professional status. “Look across the league, man. We’re held to a certain standard. We almost have to be perfect.” No - I think I got it - he thinks better than 182 yards a game and leading your receivers equates to "almost perfect" and he thinks that requirement is based on fan or others perceptions about his skin color. -

The issue with his comments here is that it sounds like a dodge for coming to grips with his own poor performances. Racism exists to whatever extent and it sucks, but it's not why he can't lead his receivers on a crossing route. It's a really dumb thing for him to bring up when he's clearly not performing well. This pretty much ends his career with the Bills, I believe. "Insult the customers" is never a good business play, and making excuses really doesn't sound like part of the McBeane process. -

Yeah - pretty much mostly BS. EJ isn't mobile, and Warren Moon sure wasn't. In fairness to the concern though, I've read a lot of folks here calling EJ a mobile QB, and I have assumed it was b/c he was black, so yeah, there's some of that. OTOH... If Taylor wants to get less criticism for his play, he might try HITTING HIS DAMNED RECEIVERS ACCURATELY. Even better - try LEADING them in their routes - maybe even throw them open? I know, I'm asking for miracles because I'm racist. OR, he can continue to throw over their heads, behind them, or at their toes, and continue to whine about how unfair it is to be paid millions to be a mediocre QB. -
What do the Bills do to fix this offense?
BobChalmers replied to Do The Reich Thing's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm assuming you mean Dawkins at LT in which case, I've been thinking the same thing. Beyond that, they hired a mediocrity at OL Coach/Run game coordinator, so unless Juan Castillo suddenly gets better than his track record or they find someone better to replace him, the run game they've had for the last two years is gone and they're stuck. I've posted this before but worth repeating - NO ONE here in Ravens-land was anything other than happy to see Castillo go. I think the Ravens just got their revenge on us for the Lee Evans trade. TT isn't going to pull them out of this, regardless of who the receivers are. -
Bills vs Bye: Predict The Score
BobChalmers replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really don't think it's a must-win for the Bills, simply b/c TB is their toughest match up in the next five games. They could easily lose then win 4 straight to be 7-3 hosting NE. -
Fire Rico Now; be done with it.
BobChalmers replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Same title as Castillo with the Ravens and doing reasonably well. Ravens traded up with us on that, big time. Revenge for the Lee Evans trade! Tough to get someone good off the street this time of year. Remember Rico wasn't McDermott's first choice already. In fairness, Juan Castillo is the "run game coordinator", and I believe McDermott hired him BEFORE Dennison, no?? -
Yeah - all I can say about this to cheer myself up is that McDermott will figure out he needs to improve and address with hopefully better coaching options in the off-season. He hired who he could get year 1. No one, I repeat NO ONE I have talked to down here in Ravens land was sad to see Castillo go. General consensus was "thank God he's gone". Ditto for Vlad. They're fairly happy with "run game coordinator and heir apparent OC" Greg Roman down here, btw.

SAL M: Bills WRs have no business being starters.
BobChalmers replied to JM2009's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What do they need WRs for - they are 0-5? If they're only "dropping" balls thrown at their shoelaces or behind them or above their reach, I'm less concerned by them than getting them something better to catch. Please direct us to a highlight reel where TT accurately leads his receivers other than bombs. I was watching multiple (though not most) QBs playing on SATURDAY who do this repeatedly. We have one on our bench who can do it most of the time. The defense was the problem, and the running game, not the passing, was the good part of the team. YES - which is why it is critical OBD figures out if Peterman can be the guy or not. -

D&C >> BN Agreed. Unfortunately, if they need to fix the QB position, that alone will use most of those picks, and that new QB won't have the help he should. Maybe they make a play for one of the big FAs. They're also going to need DT help too, unfortunately. OBD really needs to find out what they have in Peterman. And yeah, TT wasn't getting it done with last year's WR corps either - including a healthy Clay. These WR may be bad, but so is the guy throwing to them (or not throwing to them, more accurately). -
Gameday Thread Bills @ Cincy 1st Half
BobChalmers replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Zay is going to break out big today!!! (I hope) -
Cincy can't score either though - this week could very well be the Carolina game in reverse - something like Bills win 11-6 behind Haushkamatic. And the Dolphins are easily the worst scoring offense in the league right now, so I feel pretty good about winning low scoring games against them. He'd be an even better fit if we had some good WR targets for more bombs, which he's as good as any QB in the league at launching.

Boldin does want to play football
BobChalmers replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Always my theory on that. He looked REALLY SLOW AND BAD. One more loss and the Giants could be trading players for low picks. A 7th for Brandon Marshall, anyone? -
No more XX Bills fans (Title edited)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_starting_quarterbacks_in_the_National_Football_League No, not really, but it can help. If my count is right, 7 of the 32 starters were #1 overall. 5 more were drafted 2-4. 2 were 11th, one 12th. Here's a good list to consider: the following currently starting QB's were available when the Bills 1st round pick came up (IE, no tank needed). Ones in bold have taken their teams to the playoffs, though they aren't all great QBs. Five of them have won Super Bowls. Tom Brady Kirk Cousins Russell Wilson Derek Carr Drew Brees Josh McCown Jay Cutler Aaron Rogers* (Bills had traded their pick away) Jacoby Brissett (not really the starter) Dak Prescott Trevor Simien DeShaun Watson DeShone Kizer Andy Dalton Mike Glennon Joe Flacco Tyrod Taylor -
So how many here think Rams will keep Watkins next year and beoyond? So true!

Emergency Team Meeting - Regarding Trump comments?
BobChalmers replied to boater's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
How does that matter at all? They are at their workplace, in their uniforms, clearly on company time, by definition representing their company more than themselves. -
Emergency Team Meeting - Regarding Trump comments?
BobChalmers replied to boater's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Huge difference between "feeling sorry" (your term - noone else) for someone and being concerned about ANY American being targeted for private political activity. I'd also suggest that there were a lot of people who were upset about the principle of historical statues being removed w/o being Nazis, etc. -
Emergency Team Meeting - Regarding Trump comments?
BobChalmers replied to boater's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I don't even need them to cut the protesters - the NFL (foolishly, in my opinion) has decided to allow the protests. As long as the NFL says they do, the players can protest. OTOH they should cut any player who isn't focused on winning and thinks they need a team meeting/group hug to deal with a Trump tweet. This is a prime example of lack of mental toughness of the sort that prolongs a 17-year playoff drought. You hear any stories about "emergency meetings" from any other NFL teams? You can bet your butt N.E. didn't need a team hug. -
Emergency Team Meeting - Regarding Trump comments?
BobChalmers replied to boater's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
So now the team really is tanking - but it's the players doing it to themselves. It blows my mind a team with as poor a track record and as many on-field problems as this unit has the nerve to focus on anything other than trying to win. McBeane apparently have several more players to cut. -
well...forget about that 3rd round comp pick
BobChalmers replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
THEY HAVE UNTIL WEEK 1!! (How many times must this be repeated on this board?) Given that DuCasse was a healthy scratch this week, it comes down to Holmes and Davis, both of whom were effective week 1 - we'll see what other WRs come off the practice squad. -
