Why do the Bills Never Have THE GUY?
BobChalmers replied to Domdab99's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Those of us old enough to remember will know that Bruce wasn't strictly "the guy" himself for very long if ever. Dennis Hopper Nike ad aside, the narrative back then was that Reggie White was the better DE. Thurman was always behind Sanders and Smith. McCoy is as good today compared to his competition as Thurman was in his day. Kelly wasn't even discussed as the top QB - and widely regarded to this day as only a distant third behind Elway and Marino in his own draft class. Neither was Andre Reid at WR. What all of that might tell you is that there are very very very few players who dominate at a position, and even if they do it doesn't last long (JJ Watt? broken twice now). You don't need to have the best at a position to win championships. -
30?? I would consider that miraculous improvement by this defense. Let's hope they don't drop another 40+!

That's certainly the logical narrative. Jets and Chargers both got back on track breaking losing streaks playing the Bills.

Why do the Bills Never Have THE GUY?
BobChalmers replied to Domdab99's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He'd have about 10 catches right now with TT throwing to him. McCoy can be pretty special. If you want agility in your RB rather than power, he's the guy. He's getting old though to count on going forward. Pretty tough to rationally complain about how that move worked out. Tre is a pretty terrific rookie CB and we have an extra first next year. -
Here's our problem: Draft Rounds 1-3

Can our new GM have his FIRST DRAFT before we complain about his work? Wow, just wow! -

Seriously - any list that says "Kiko Alonso GONE" and leaves it at that is pretty hard to take seriously. We got 70% of our offense in return for Kiko - C'mon man. -
Hehe - Just my speculation : 70% chance Peterman opens the season, 15% Rookie 1st rounder, 10% Tyrod, 5% FA veteran. And again - assuming NP plays again this year, his play will affect the the first two numbers above. Given some of the reactions, looks like I should start offering bets! HALF a game. But sure - he's terrible. Pitt's defense must have carried him to a 43-42 win over Clemson last year!
-
I think it's pretty likely Peterman will get a few (1-3) more starts this year. Tyrod and the Bills need at least a win against KC or NE to remain at all in the playoff conversation. AND highly probable he will start the 2018 season for the Bills. How he does in his other chances this season and how the draft falls next year will determine whether he's starting long-term or just as a placeholder for the rookie they get.

TO is no Moss. He's a Hall of Famer but no first ballot guy. Had a lot of dumb drops that cost his team. Keep in mind Thurman Thomas didn't get in on first ballot. First ballot on this list for me: Lewis Moss Coryell Atwater Craig Yeah, and frankly his play was excellent but overrated IMHO. People wanted him to be the next Mike Singletary - he was not.

AFC Defensive Player of The Week
BobChalmers replied to The Poojer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Based on his statistics, should they try him out at DB this week? -
About what? My prior statement remains the truth. TT was helpless against the Ravens pressure, NP stepped in still against the first team and performed much better. That was a fact Saturday and it's still a fact. TT was playing in garbage time in the fourth quarter against the Saints and still couldn't move the ball, and NP came in moments later and did. Still a fact. PS - you lost your bet. Too bad there was nothing on the line. Honestly a really terrible idea. Maybe the most foolish thing I've read here in a while and that's saying quite a bit.

I wanna see Peterman start a game again this year
BobChalmers replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And they could be very close to eliminated by then. -

It seems crazy - but he IS the thing that changed right before the implosion (along with signing KB, I guess - hard to blame him though) -

Yeah firing Castillo first before Denison is reasonable, but they are both pretty awful. -
Yeah - that did me in! HECK YEAH - Who needs PETER-MAN when you've got MOOR-MAN! Seriously though - how many NFL franchises have actually sold their punter's jerseys as pre-mades in all the stores? What a brutal indictment of how bad the team has been in this drought. Maybe the Ray Guy Raiders at some point??

Great MMQB article on Tyrod/Bills decision
BobChalmers replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If there's one thing I could change about national sports media, it would be a brutal purge of all the idiot ex-players who don't do their homework before spouting off. It remains incredible to me that the imbecile Marshall Faulk still gets to be employed for spouting ignorance, but at least his role on NFLN has been reduced. It was also the game where TT failed to THROW THE DAMNED BALL on time to Logan Thomas, turning an easy TD into a FG. -
Great MMQB article on Tyrod/Bills decision
BobChalmers replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thank you! So sick of the nonsense narrative that "Tyrod was benched after ONE bad game"!!! -
He absolutely was - sounded like he was one missed/late throw from running out on the field to smack him.
-
I'm curious in regards to Tyrod's skill set
BobChalmers replied to SinatraSinger's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1. He throws a good deep ball when he has time and a fast WR. 2. He tends to protect the ball. 3. He's a good leader (as far as we can tell). 4. His scrambling ability does challenge opposing DC's. It's not nothing. He's been proven to be a "legitimate" NFL starter, and he has a winning record with an organization that has not had one in a long time. IMO that's not enough - and I wanted Peterman to start ever since the Ravens preseason game. TT lacks accuracy, doesn't understand (or otherwise can't execute) timing with receivers' routes, and is among the slowest in the league at getting rid of the ball. All of that adds up to 3-and-outs and a lot of sacks. -
Well for the Cult of Tyrod, it's already started, obviously!

It's a bird...it's a plane...NO...it's....
BobChalmers replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Look, up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, no -- it's a peter, man! ^^^ Or maybe the contrail "Peter-Man" leaves in the sky? Here I was believing the news reports that a Navy pilot was responsible! http://www.wtsp.com/news/graphic-obscene-skydrawings-spotted-in-okanogan-co/492521457 NP is the next Joe Montana or at least the next Frank Reich, btw - I seriously do believe in him. Zay Jones is also the next Jerry Rice. I'm not really kidding. -
Thank you! So sick of the false narrative that Sunday was TT's first bad game. He even stunk up the field in some of their wins too, folks - but the D with all their turnovers carried them. He is at (last season) or near (4th this year) the bottom of the list for taking a long time to throw the ball - they have that stat now, and he's the worst. He was making his OL look bad, and he was failing to see open targets. During the Jets game, Tony Romo was practically crawling through the telestrator begging him to throw the damned ball sooner - IE when the receiver makes his cut and is briefly open!!! Instead Tyrod waits for a perfectly open receiver (that rarely happens in the NFL) and gives the defenders time to recover. He cost them a TD (and likely the game) against Cincy doing the same thing. It's a continuous pattern. Add to that the fact that when he does throw it, he's way too often off target, forcing the receivers to stop and reach up, down, or back for throws, eliminating their YAC chances. His wild throws were well on the way to destroying Zay Jones' confidence. Benching his sorry butt was a godsend for the WRs. They are a better team with Peterman in there - period, and doubly so in a WCO that demands even more than average NFL quick decisions and throws.
