(POLL TIME!) What WR's Make the roster?
BobChalmers replied to Boca BIlls's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I picked 7 b/c I'm pretty sure they'll keep 7 - Brown/Beasley/Jones/Foster/Roberts/Williams/McKenzie -
Mayfield looked terrible last night...
BobChalmers replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
True - but I'm less worried when it's a smart kid in a meaningless preseason game immediately admitting he screwed up. There's every reason to believe he'll work it out over time. Worst case, he becomes Brett Favre? ? Speaking of his media coverage and JA being a smart kid - has anyone EVER heard a media figure point out he had the top Wonderlic score (tied with a few others) at the combine? Dramatically better than all the other drafted QBs including the "genius" Josh Rosen. I had no idea until I looked them up. Not saying Wonderlic is all-important, but it seems a bit odd it's never mentioned. https://wonderlictestsample.com/2018-nfl-draft-class-wonderlic-test-scores/ -

Again - responding to someone else's point about Allen getting a lot of unfair coverage overall. Which, BTW was ALSO the OP's point. Focusing on one (certainly) bad pass is a bit off topic. -

Sorry - are you a national sports writer/TV talking head? There are a ton of them who won't show/mention anything he does right. I wasn't replying to a comment about that one throw - which was bad. Edited: I put the rest of what I was responding to for context. Hopefully that helps. -

It is. A decent percentage of them won't ever forgive him for his teenage tweets. They'll never admit it, of course, but I am pretty confident that's the issue. -
Cam Newton suffers foot sprain, leaves in walking boot

Comparing Allen's off-field behavior to Newton's is not even attempting honesty. -

He's a conceited loud-mouth ####### who isn't remotely as good as he thinks he is. Just curious - do you appreciate his "opinions" regarding female sports beat reporters trying to ask him football questions? The example DOES argue strongly against the notion that giving your starters live action preseason work is a BAD thing though. -

I'm assuming Cam hurt his foot getting it stuck in his mouth. -

All the returning WRs will have reduced roles - the first two guys on the depth chart are Brown and Beasely. Honestly, nothing to see here. -
Receiver competition with two games left
BobChalmers replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For all the haters on our leading WR the past two seasons, would't it be even more sensible to question Foster at this point? What's he done this preseason/camp? If you go back and watch Allen's highlights from 2018, you will see a string of great Zay Jones plays in there - they aren't giving up on him any time soon. -
Are you drafting any Bills to your fantasy football team?
BobChalmers replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We do IDP and I don't live in the area, so yeah, I pick up steals on defense every year. We count tackles/assists .5 each, sacks are 2, INTs are 5+yards/10 Back in the day, I took Bruce Smith as early as the 3rd round - out of 32 rounds/12 teams - and didn't regret it. He was a tackle machine as well as a dominant sack artist. I had Edmunds last year - I'll certainly be happy to get him again if I can. Milano can be a steal. Josh Allen with all his scrambling is actually a legit consideration as a late QB1 - certainly a strong QB2. He was the top QB in our league 3 different weeks I believe. I'm going to jump all over Beasely this year - even though we don't do PPR. Other than those two, I'm not keen on any of the offense - the RB situation looks like a committee to say the least, Brown might be a WR3 type? -
Late night discussion: Should Josh Allen run less in 2019?
BobChalmers replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The vast majority of his 2018 "runs" were scrambles, forced on him by our woeful combo of OL that couldn't block and receivers that couldn't get open. As long as that's the case, there is nothing wrong with him running. There were VERY few instances of him scrambling when he shouldn't have. The hope this year is that with better OL and WR play he won't need to scramble as much, but the way this question is often (and here) worded makes it sound like it's on Allen or the coaches to change something - misses the mark badly. -
Mitch Morse is already being fitted for it - sorry
-
The Bills were definitely in the mix earlier in the offseason when Clowney was discussed. Seriously though, dude does not strike me as a "process" guy.
-
Yeah - that too with Waddle out for the year.
-
To protect him from injury while they negotiate trading him for Clowney...? I'd be a little bummed - I loved the Nsekhe signing and am not convinced we want Ford at ORT instead of ORG.

Bills TC Day 15 (8/14) Joint Practice #2 with Panthers
BobChalmers replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
ESPN is almost as broke as most local newspapers - and to follow on some other threads - this is a lot of why national media figures are often so clueless and just regurgitate others' reporting. They literally can't afford or aren't paid to do real journalism. And I LIKE this new guy Marcel Louis-Jacques!! -

An injury would scuttle a trade? -
God bless you! (sorry - couldn't help myself) Damn it - you beat me to it!!!

That, or the REALITY that national media have no incentive to put any energy into informed coverage of a small market team. They get caught ALL THE TIME spewing complete nonsense that proves they aren't putting in the time to earn their paychecks. The all-time classic, of course, was Marshall Faulk having to make a weak apology for saying the Bills wouldn't be good b/c they needed to upgrade at OLT - when they had pro-bowler Jason Peters at OLT. More recently, Nate Burleson apologized for leaving Tre' White off his list of top 5 rookie CBs after the 2017 season. This is a pretty constant behavior, and since the lazy incompetent Faulk is still employed, I am pretty sure they all know the consequences are minimal. Reporting on the Bills is taken as "vacation time" by the nationals, and they usually mail it in with little to no effort applied.

Bills Training Camp Day 13 (8/11)
BobChalmers replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This has been the smart move all along IMHO - glad they are getting there. Ty is definitely one of the best 5, and he's a OT, not an OG. Add that so many scouts thinking Ford could be an elite OG but only a good OT. Before Waddle went out this was a no-brainer. Possibly. On the other hand, Zay has been the team's leading receiver both of his two seasons, no? At this point I'm going to be pleasantly relieved if Morse plays ANY games in a Bills uniform. -

That went out the window when Ford moved to G. -
This is also a good clip to share with all the national and other media idiots who try to sound smart saying Allen needs to learn to pass from the pocket so he doesn't get hurt. No, idiots, he HAD NO POCKET (and no open WRs), so scrambling was the smartest and safest thing he could do. That is one hell of a short stick! Same.
