No less a Bills fan than William Shakepeare, when he ran into a so-called fan at the Big Tree Inn who said the Bills playoff window was closed, waved a chicken wing in his face and called him "O gull, O dolt, as ignorant as dirt!" When Robert Saleh said that the Jets defense was going to "embarass" Josh Allen in today's game, Shakespeare called him "a poisonous bunch-backed toad," a "foot-licker," and "an elvish-marked, abortive, rooting hog." About Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, Shakespeare said he has "not so much brain as ear-wax." Shakespeare said that against the Bills defense the Jets offense was "roast meat for worms." Finally, when considering Zack Wilson as a quarterback, he said, "The soul of this man is in his clothes." Trust me, you don't mess with the Bard of Avon.

They just need to win the games. They easily could have beaten the Jags, the Jets, the Pats. Despite whatever injuries or drawbacks they've had, they ought to be 7-1 or 6-2 at the worst right now.

Nine of ten pundits at the NFL website pick the Bengals over the Bills, eight of eight pick the Bengals at the CBS NFL website, and seven of ten pick the Bengals at the ESPN site. That's 24 of 28 total picking the Bengals.

There were plenty of times when passing was not working that Daboll continued to try passing instead of "pounding the rock." Case in point, in 2021 when the Bills' lost to the Jags 9-6, Allen threw 47 passes. They ran the ball with the running backs a total of nine times for 22 yards. Allen ran the ball 5 times; some of those were undoubtedly scrambles. Dorsey is much more willing to change strategy rather than hit his head against a brick wall.

And running Allen instead of Cook offers the wonderful opportunity to lose the franchise QB for the rest of the season. Cook getting the same fifteen yards as Allen is boring. /s

I think it's good that he is running less, and fewer plays are being called putting him at risk of getting destroyed by some linebacker or 300 pound DT. Doesn't mean he can't scramble or execute a called run play now and then. But not as a regular practice, hurdling people and getting lit up on the sidelines rather than go out of bounds. If he kept going the way he was going, the probability was he'd end up like Cam Newton, career basically over by age 31.

If he's not playing up to his contract he won't be playing as much, no matter what the contract says.

I'm not convinced that Poyer, Hyde and White will be starting at the beginning of next season, or at the end of it (though it's hard to say that the replacements for the two safeties are on the team right now). White's not over the hill in years but the two major injuries make him suspect. Morse is no kid either and they've been grooming Bates to be his replacement. We have yet to see how much Miller has left in the tank; he may recede to "elder statesman" among the pass rushers next year, with many fewer snaps. The others you list are good bets if they aren't hurt.

Yes, if you take the age of the entire roster this is true. You're missing my point. I'm talking about the age of the starters, and going forward after this season.

Part of this is the number of injuries they have suffered, but I think there are signs that the Bills will be significantly younger going forward. Consider the following players who are starting or playing significant snaps right now: Damian Williams--rookie O'Cyrus Torrance--rookie Dalton Kincaid--rookie Christian Benford--2nd year Terrel Bernard--2nd year James Cook--2nd year Kaiir Elam--2nd year Greg Rousseau--3rd year Spencer Brown--3rd year Plus others who are coming along: Quintin Morris--2nd year Khalil Shakir--2nd year Ryan Van Demark--rookie Alec Anderson--rookie Kingsley Jonathan--2nd year Now we may have doubts about players like Brown and Elam, for sure, and some of these guys have not seen the field much, but at least some and probably many of them are going to be the regulars after this season. The team seems to me to be investing in younger backups to mix with the older retreads and free agents with an eye toward them taking bigger roles in future. Of course all teams do this, but it does suggest the Bills are trying to stay relevant for the long haul.
