I was yelling about Hackett, but in the end it comes down to Marone. I have never been more frustrated by play calling in a game the Bills were winning. Run-run-pass in a long yardage situation with the Jets sending everyone at Orton. They did not have a first down in the second half (save for the third-quarter TD ten-yard drive) until the fourth quarter, and that was by penalty. What the hell is Marone thinking? Does he really think he's going to get six turnovers against every team they play. If they take this tack against the Chiefs they will be blown away.

The idea of bringing in all these totally inexperienced famous players as coaches and expecting them to be better than people who have spent decades coaching is ludicrous fantasy. Very very few great players make good coaches. The ability to play and the ability to teach others to play are different abilities. How many Hall of Fame players became Hall of Fame coaches? How many great scientists are even adequate teachers? This whole post is silly.

This is a ludicrously stupid question. Ask me in December.

Orton was very impressive in that presser. He handled a tough situation perfectly, keeping account of a number of different issues, and answering quickly and precisely. I don't know how much if anything his self possession and intelligence in that circumstance will translate onto the field. After all, if he can't throw, he can't throw. But I have to feel that the guy is going to go out there, not be overwhelmed, and give the best he's got, earning the respect of his teammates.

EJ threw with anticipation repeatedly in the second Jets game. Go watch it. For instance, he hit two long passes on successive plays (the second for a TD) to Graham and Goodwin. IN both cases he had to fire the pass before the receiver broke open. Also, for all those who say he never or can't throw long, these were both long passes, over thirty yards in the air.

Nope. I'm not sure it is entirely rational, but I think EJ has more potential. Have not been impressed with Tannehill.

This is an extremely rational reaction. It doesn't mean the Bills won't stink this season, but it offers more reason to watch them than the (understandable) knee-jerk pessimism that seems to prevail right now.

Because in the first game I ever attended Bills cornerback Haygood Clark intercepted George Blanda's pass with 27 seconds left in the game and ran it back 66 yards for the winning TD on a beautiful, sunny September day, the day after my birthday, at the Rockpile, in 1966.

Jerry Sullivan is a jerk. He has always been a jerk and always will be one. Occasionally, like a broken clock, he is right about something, but this is not one of those times. And even when he is right he is still a jerk.

Typing in ALL CAPS does not make something more true. Spiller made same bad plays, but the play calling for him was Stone Age. Hackett did little to get Spiller out in space, and ran him between the tackles as if he were Marshawn Lynch. Hackett did not impress in his first year as OC. IMHO, if the Bills lose Spiller he will be a superstar under some other, smarter, coach.

SD will beat Denver today. Denver will fold when it counts like a cheap tent. My main reason for believing this is that it will give the Pats a home game against the Chargers for the AFC championship. Pats will obliterate the overmatched Chargers in Foxboro. If the Pats have to play Denver in Denver, then it's possible Denver could win because of the memory of what happened to them last year, but I don't see the Broncos stopping LaGarette Blount. My only hope is that the NFC team can beat the Pats in the Bowl. But I would not count on that either. The way the Pats have become a running team behind this come-out-of-nowhere Blount is too depressing for words. If someone manages to keep it close, then Brady will carve them up. The Pats don't have the best personnel in the league, but they have the psych out on everyone. A team like the Colts or even the Bills can hang in there until the fourth quarter against them, but will invariably fall apart in crunch time. The Pats just do not beat themselves, and I have to respect that, even though I &%#@&* hate them.

I think the current regime has done a terrible job in using Spiller's talents. I would not be surprised if they let him go after his contract ends, and he will end up on a team whose OC will not keep bockheadedly running him between the tackles. Even with his injuries this season, and the braindead play calling, he had decent production. He has a good attitude and is a good citizen--no Marshawn Lynch. I expect him to star for another team. All you who want to dump him, be careful what you wish for. This is a classic Bills scenario.

...to my near infinite disgust. I do not trust the Broncos to beat the Chargers. The Pats will beat the Colts, who do not have another miracle game in them. So the Pats get the AFC championship game at home against San Diego, the last team to qualify for the playoffs, possessors of one of the worst defenses in the league. I'd like to think the Chargers could beat them, but that's a pipe dream. Everything is falling right for the Patsies, as usual.

This is not true. He lofts some passes--as with the long one to Goodwin that he should have caught--it dropped perfectly into his hands, but Goodwin got destroyed by the safety and muffed it. But other passes, like the 28-yarder to Chandler down the middle (I believe on the same drive), or several of the middle-of-the field passes to Woods, he throws it much more on a line. Go back and look at the tape if you don't believe me.

Despite his bad games, I see lots of potential and some accomplishment already in EJ. I won't say that he's guaranteed to be a franchise-level QB, but I think he's go much more upside than Losman, Edwards, and Fitzpatrick. I just don't understand those people who say he can't throw. And I think there was a lot more going wrong to make the Bills lose badly against Tampa Bay than EJ's admittedly poor play. This board gets hysterical after losses. I guess fourteen years out of the playoffs will do that, but I suggest those of you screaming to draft another QB in round 1 step back from the cliff.

In the KC game the defense allowed only 9 points, and three of those came after the Bills turned over the ball in their own end of the field. The only two touchdowns scored by KC were from interception and fumble returns. They shut down the KC running game, and most of their passing game. That was probably one of the defense's best games of the season, wasted.

Cry me a freakin' river, Tommy boy. Makes up for the blatant hold that wasn't called on Brady's touchdown pass to beat the Saints.

I watched most of the game against the Saints. Geno had "good game" only to the extent that he didn' turn the ball over. The Jets won that game on defense and their running game. They desperately kept the game from resting in Geno's hands. They ran wildcat plays with Cribbs; they limited Geno's throws to an absolute minimum, and still he went only 8 for 19 for 115 yards and a QB rating of 62.4. If not for the D and New Orleans turnovers the Jets lose that one. Geno is making Sanchez look good.
