  1. I have a friend who is a rabid Bengals fan and he says there is a vocal contingent of Bengals fans who are fed up with Taylor and screaming for his head. The grass is always greener. Those calling for McDermott to be fired seldom name the coach they think is going to come in and instantly win a Super Bowl. When the do give a name it's as much wishful thinking as analysis: they completely discount those many things that McDermott does that are hard to come by in a coach, somehow expecting this new guy to have all those qualities plus never make a mistake and never have his kicker miss a tying field goal in a playoff game.
  2. I am very happy about the team's performance this season overall but not happy about the injury situation. I know that injuries happen on all teams, and it's part of the game, but I'm very bummed about Coleman's injury. Even if it does not put him out, I can't see how he's going to play effectively with ligament damage when his strong point is making contested catches. Also the injuries to the D-line and linebackers (Smoot, Carter, Bernard looks hurt, Milano still out for some time) plus Benford--possibly even Allen--makes me nervous about the team going forward. Though I have to say that I'm always nervous. There is no joy in Mudville. . . .
  3. No matter what issues he had with the Bills or the Bills had with him, I hate to see this. Especially tough for him since he's on an expiring contract.
  4. Tastes differ. I hear some fans say they can't stand Beth Mowins' voice. For me, Harlan's bellowing is ten times worse.
  5. I have come to hate Kevin Harlan as play by play announcer. His bellowing is obnoxious.
  6. This Mevis guy's percentages in college were not that great except for one season. 84% overall. I'd like to see a breakdown by distance. weather condtiions, etc. I don't have much confidence in Bass right now, but I can't say this guy would be a solution.
  7. After your four hundred posts excoriating him no matter what the topic is, some people are going to suspect that you don't like Sean McDermott.
  8. With the Bills' injuries, the coaching switch in NY, the fact that the game is being played in New Jersey, and the Jets' desperation, it's like everything is stacked up against the Bills for this game. Under these circumstances, if the Bills manage to win it will tell us something about the team and the coaching.
  9. After firing Saleh the Jets will play their best game and beat the Bills. That’s the vibe I’m feeling anyway.
  10. I think Samuel is going to have a game—at least the opportunity is there. He is not a chump. Sure. We’ve got good boundary corners. We’ll see if the safeties can play adequately.
  11. Two tight ends, extra o-lineman, pound the ball on the ground. Samuel in the slot, Coleman wide. Mix in Hollins and Valdes-Scantling for variety, but mostly run it (Hollins can block), pass to tight ends, running backs. Take an occasional shot down field if the Houston defense crowds the line of scrimage. Bernard is back in at linebacker. Focus on limiting Collins and hope Cam Lewis does not get eaten alive by the Houston slot receiver (probably Diggs).
  12. I'm not trying to insult you. I've questioned my own fandom at times. Why insult me?
  13. Why follow the team, if that's what you think? Seriously. Seems like it would give you nothing but grief.
  14. The injury list is daunting, but I don't think the Texans will roll over the Bills. I expect a close game.
  15. For pity’s sake, get a grip on yourself. The guy is 20 years old and has played four games in his NFL career.
  16. Yes, the Bills got punched in the mouth. Beaten up on both lines of scrimmage. But I still believe what I said at the start of the second half: the Bills are not as bad as they looked in this game, and the Ravens not as good. Each game is a test. The Texans game will be a stiff one. The Bills need to win one of the next two. I'm worried that Allen injured his arm on that crazy fumble play. We'll see what happens.
  17. The Bills are not as bad as they looked in the first half, and the Ravens are not as good.
  18. Hold your horses. Fourteen games to go.
  19. Of course Mina Kimes is right about Josh Allen. Here's why: When other football analysts do videos from their homes, on the shelves behind them If they even have books on the shelf, the books they have are biographies of Vince Lombardi or picture books of NFL history, along with their photos of Tom Brady or Lawrence Taylor, little plastic football helmets, or pennants for various teams. Mina has a book by Vladimir Nabokov and a copy of Don DeLillo's 827-page postmodern novel Underworld (which happens to contain the novella "Pafko at the Wall" about the 1951 playoff game between the Giants and the Dodgers where Bobby Thompson hit "The shot heard 'round the world."). The woman's got brains.
  20. I've detested the Dolphins and Cowboys for decades--since the 1970s at least. My dislike of other teams waxes and wanes, depending. Patriots, Jets, Titans, Steelers, Ravens, and the Chiefs in their current incarnation.
  21. God I hated that Rex hire. When they hired him instead of just promoting Schwartz to HC, or at least keeping him on as DC, I knew they were in trouble. The switch to 3-4 after they had one of the top defenses in the league under Schwartz was just a sign of things to come.
  22. I'm always nervous about the Bills, but this Jags game is another test. The Jags have played so badly and they will be a desperate team. They have some talented players who could break out. And the Bills have had a number of inexplicable games against the Jags going back to the 1990s. I want the Bills to squash them like a bug but I'll be happy if they eek out a win and nobody gets hurt.
  23. Mahomes can only dream about having the career that Trent Edwards had.
  24. Michaels is old and tired but I'd rather have that than Kevin Harlan bellowing like a gored water buffalo.
