Well, I didn't hear any team trying to get buffalo's spot. I don't think any team coveted him enough to move up to get him. There were reports of things like the eagles trying to move up as far as 12 and other teams and whatever. But no mention of the bills. I just don't think it was a real option unless they didn't want to get the value. -

What if trading back wasn't an option? Because I don't think it was a real option. I don't think any teams were interested in the 9th pick, especially since most teams were targeting the mid round picks more, according to reports. Also, I think spillar fills the need at WR more than Dez. We don't have a QB that can utilize a WR who takes a lot of times more than a year to develop. Spillar will probably become the number 1 recieving target or at least one of them. SPillar isn't just a running back, but a reciever as well. If spillar can help with the passing game a lot, wont that fill your dire need to up the passing game? -

Also, I don't think they could have gotten value for trading down. All the reports for people trading up didn't seem to want the 9th pick. -

Try telling that to tom brady and his crappy defense Or how about the jests where QB was their weakest position? The jests could win if they had Edwards as their QB. All he has to do is hand it off to the running backs and let the defense to its thing. And every now and then he can check down if he wants. -

i mean, I don't love the pick either. I would have rather have grabbed a player like Ghram who could pass rush or something or maybe a player like morgan. Hell, I think Mcclain would be a bill if the raiders didn't take him. But this thread isn't to discuss whether this pick was good or not. There are other threads to complain about this pick and why putting money into the position is wrong, how the backfield is over crowded, he is a luxury pick, RBs are easy to replace, etc. This thread was mainly to comment on a highligh reel. Not to crusade against the pick and the rebuilding process in general. -

Wel, yeah, you did say that. You said his speed was just like the rest of the nfl. no one was talking about the speed of BC, GT, and UVA players. That goes without saying that the average college player on those teams is slower than the average nfl player. but saying his speed is "just like the rest of the NFL" is saying his speed is just average, which is nonesense. -
Great article on draft grades.....

I don't know about jackson being over-rated. He isn't elite like some RBs, but he is a solid starter and he is even better in a two back system. Plus he threw a TD pass that was better than most of the ones thrown by our QBs! -

Is his speed really that average for the nfl? -

Well...... first off, who are these damn good players that Nix cut? Second.... I believe our two biggest weaknesses would have been LT and NT. You can argue QB, but there weren't really any in this draft that would be instant starters except maybe bradford. We got our NT in the second round. And as for LT, we didn't get a high pick at LT, but we did get a mid pick. Is that position fix? probably not. But it isn't like he ignored it and didn't address it. And 3rd.... I don't think HE is the one who picked the 3-4 scheme. I believe it was the coaches. If this team sucks this year (probably) it isn't going to be all on Nix. It is going to be because the team has been screwed over by two regimes over a decade, we are in a tough division, we need at least one more year of rebuilding, and young players are still developing. -
Projected Starting Lineup - Please Help

I just don't see maybin starting at OLB. At best, he is brought in on 3rd down only. -

oops. And I like he says nice things about us and all.... but I really wish people wouldn't use "high motor" when describing our players. It just triggers bad memories. -

hey! he mentions us twice! twice! -
it is cool and all and I think that he will be able to get to the QB after we develop him more, though that is far from a sure thing. What sucks though is that he will be almost worthless on stopping the run most likely. And that is going to kinda suck. I don't think he was worth the spot we took him in. There were just too many players that brought more to the table. Someone mentioned oher, and I would like to throw cushing out there too. Both those players would have been a lot more help than maybin, both in the long term and short term. And I know people will also say Orpako (sp?) as well would have been a better pick.

I like what he said about picking troup over cody. Cody was almost a risk with the questionmarks of his work ethic and conditioning issues. Cody is better off with balt where Lewis will keep in line and we are better off with Troup who is more of a safe pick and don't need to babysit to make sure he is putting in the effort and taking care of himself.

A lot of franchise QBs get picked in the 2nd half of the first round. Aarron Rodgers and Big Ben are the first ones that come to mind. We don't need a top ten pick to get a franchise QB. Especially with the QB class that is expected to come out next year. I don't know how well we are going to do, but I can't write off the season until at least game 8. Last year, we sucked but we were still able to beat the phish once, the jests once, and almost beat the *pats. sure we are behind them all, but they are not all mighty by any means. With this new coaching staff and our new defensive scheme, we have no idea how we will match up to them this year. If this coaching staff is better than jauron, then winning 3 divisional games shouldn't seem impossible (though I don't think it is likely). Plus if we get all our players back healthy, that will only make us better as well. I also thought a lot about the Jests campaign to win it all this year. Their agressive attitude and smack talk just seems like a lot. I think they will be awesome this year, but I think it is also risky making this attempt to win it all with a questionable QB still in development. If he regresses, or stays the same, I think the jests could lose thier first playoff game which would just tear apart that locker room and all those 1 year contract players will jump ship. there is just too much hot air in their for them not to burst. We have seen rex ryan act all bad ass and we have seen him cry. That locker room has drama hell written all over it, and the only way to avoid it is win everything. -
crazy Coleman didn't get drafted. And it is crazier he chose us when there were probably others calling him up.

We're not going to be a good team in 2010
DanInUticaTampa replied to Deep2Moulds46's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Spillar pick did help fill a need I think. He is going to really help the passing game and help fix the need at reciever. Especially if Trent becomes our starter, I can see spillar being trent's new check down favorite. Plus spillar can be used as an extra blocker to protect the QB if needed. As for the rest of the guys, I don't really know. But they seem to expect troup to play 30+ snaps a a game. With the addition of troup and Davis, this team should be well improved on run defense, which will be great. So it looks like we can stop the run and stop the pass, the only thing this defense really needs to do is rush the passer. Which it has the potential to do, but there are a lot of question marks. Overall, I think that if the spillar pick was an OT, a lot more people would like this draft. And I might even like it a little more myself. But personally, I think that this draft would have been a lot easier had the maybin pick last year been michael oher. If this draft works out well, I think our biggest needs next year will be QB, LT, and OLB with most of the other positions being at least ok if not better. -
All I have to say is I hope he is right and I can't wait for september
