Nice. I like reading different people's perspectives on this issue. I like this one a lot -- a soldier over in Iraq: http://bootsonground.blogspot.com/ This one's good too -- an Iraqi dentist: http://healingiraq.blogspot.com/ Let's not turn this thread into a PPP thread please... CW

That change is definately worth the millions I'm sure they spent designing it CW

[OT] What's your best excuse for calling in sick?
Fezmid replied to stevewin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What about people with children who have to take a lot of sick time to take care of their kids? Where do they fall into this whole hierarcy? CW -
[OT] What's your best excuse for calling in sick?
Fezmid replied to stevewin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, maybe I look at it differently because if I miss work, I still have the same number of projects on my plate the next day (and oftentimes will have to work extra hours later to get it done anyway). Plus, even if I'm really sick, I need to be available by cell in case something comes up. Heck, when I went on my honeymoon to London, I had to give them the name and number of the hotel I was staying in, "Just in case." Things get a little harrier when, as has been mentioned, you need to find someone else to cover your time or if other co-workers will need to work extra hard that day. CW -

I wouldn't say "it's raining," I'd say, "I don't have a bike." CW -

As an employee, I'd say that you're a crappy manager if you base raise/bonus on whether I use one of my *benefits* or not. Would you not give a bonus to someone who maxes out their 401(k) plan? Didn't think so. You pay people to do a job; if they do their job, even with taking days off, who are you to judge them? I'm a big proponent of "mental health days." Yeah, you might not be physically puking in the toilet, but sometimes you wake up and realize that you need to recharge your batteries that day. You'll also be more effective on the job the day that you go back. My cat's have unplugged my TV and my answering machine before... Never the alarm clock though. CW -
Moss for Moulds & any other player on our roster
Fezmid replied to Justice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Giants seemed to stop him in the playoff game a couple of years ago. Easily. The Eagles did a good number on him as well. No way do I want Moss on the Bills. Honestly, I'd probably stop watching them if he was traded for. The guy's a disgrace, and no it's not just for the faux-mooning. He's assaulted the refs a couple of times, he's run over a traffic officer once, he was removed from a flight for being beligerant towards a couple of passengers, he was fined by the Vikings for being beligerant toward team sponsors, and the list goes on. No way, no how should he ever wear the red, white, and blue (or Buffalo nickel either!). CW -
But if they're so incompetent, would they even think about hiring out the planning portion? Doubtful... CW

My thoughts exactly (and I'm not an old fogey ). A wedding *needs* to be planned; there's a lot of things that need to be done beforehand - flowers, halls for 100+ people, food, pictures, video, etc, etc, etc. What's involved in a bachelor party? Call some girls up, buy some alcohol, get a hotel room (or just skip that and go to a few strip clubs). Not much planning involved there. Would you go through a service to throw a dinner party at your home for friends and family? There's more involved in that than a bachelor party... Not to rain on the parade, but I'll echo everyone else's sentiment - don't quit your day job. CW

This guy dies and ends up going down to hell. He's terrified when he meets Satan. Satan tells the guy, "Welcome to hell! We're not as bad down as as people think though. I'll give you a choice of which of three rooms you want to spend eternity in." Satan leads the guy to the first room with a concrete floor and everyone is standing on their head. It doesn't look too bad, but the guy thinks that eventually his head will start to hurt on the hard rock. The next room has a floor made of mud, and everyone is standing on their head here as well. While the floor is definately soft, he doesn't want to mess his hair up so decides to see what option three is. The third room smells really bad, as it's covered in crap. However, everyone's sitting at a table in the middle of the room eating donuts. Satan then turns to the man and says, "Choose what room you will spend eternity in!" The guy thinks about it for a minute, then decides that, although the room smells bad, the thought of eating donuts for eternity sounds pretty good so picks room number 3. "Very well!" The guy starts eating the donuts, thinking that he made a good choice when ten minutes later, Satan walks in and says, "Break's over, everyone get back on your head!"

Well, at least now I understand why the thread was moved... CW

Yes, that's what I meant. If he needs to post and say "I have raw footage, now what?" it's going to take awhile to learn the ins and outs. I remember that it took me about 120 hours to do a simple 3 minute video when I first started. Now I could whip through that in less than a day (excluding CPU render time). It's a relatively steep learning curve. CW

Video editing isn't easy. Start reading about it on websites and pick an easier project to begin with. rec.desktop.video is full of excellent information. However, if you don't know what USENET is.... CW

Using the laws of today, I would've probably been charged with a felony while I was a student in high school. Why? I did a lot of fiction writing, and in one of my longest (and best) stories, a high school student kills a couple of student as well as a couple of teachers and a police officer. (it's later found out that he's been possessed by a demon). I even had one of my old English teachers read and comment/correct portions of it, and she thought it was very well done. If I did that in today's day and age, the teacher would probably be forced to report it to the school who would in turn contact the police. Lovely. I'm sure Stephen King would be proud. CW

Why'd this get moved? We can talk about companies firing people for smoking, but not kids being arrested for drawing? Weird. CW
-
Steve, they're being charged with a FELONY. You could go rob the local convenience store, injuring the clerk in the process, and not be charged with a felony. And their "actual depictions" were stick figures.. It's just another over-reaction to Columbine. CW

http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/01/26/drawings...s.ap/index.html I have to agree with the parents on this one. They're *kids* and they didn't actually *do* anything. This is right up there with the girl who was charged with a felony for writing a story where people died. Lunacy. EDIT: Sorry, forgot the (OT); I'm usually so good about including that too... Mods, feel free to modify the subject line. CW

So using your theory, the company should also fire anybody who's married and/or has children, right? Because family insurance plans cost more than individuals. I just looked through my open enrollment papers last month, and my insurance is costing my company roughly $100/month if I recall correctly, while a family with children is costing the company over $250. So again, should people with families be fired because they cost more to insure? Early on, someone brought up the idea that people who drive red cars should be fired as well, because studies show those people with red cars get more tickets and get in more accidents. Accidents = medical bills = higher insurance = FIRED! And why should I be paying social security? I'm only 29, why should I subsidize their costs later in life just because they were too stupid to save for their own retirement? Screw that, I don't want to subsidize others. </sarcasm> CW

Season one was, by far, the best season. They had awesome games and they went all over the place. The second one was kinda lame... As were the celebrity ones... The first season of Mole was one of the only "reality" shows that I might've actually considered going on for a second. CW

Tues. Buff News - Bills Ready To Go With Losman
Fezmid replied to Mark VI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He had 2 less rushes this season and STILL managed more yards. Seriously though, he was very mobile in the pocket, sidestepped blitzers much better than his first two seasons (even when he was on fire in his first season). I still think cutting him outright would be a mistake. But time will tell. CW -
(OT) Anyone ever converted your fireplace...
Fezmid replied to TheMadCap's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No experience with converting, but I have a gas fireplace and we use it a lot; if it were woodburning, I'm sure we'd only use it a couple times a year due to the hassle. They have some really nice models that look a lot like a "real" fire as well. Ours is, sadly, low quality and looks like a gas fire for the most part CW -
Again, they weren't fired for job performance, they were fired for increased health insurance premiums. And who here doesn't take breaks? Should people who drink coffee be fired, since they walk to the coffee pot to get refills (and often stop to talk to others on the way?)? It's ridiculous. CW
-
This is completely different than the "alcohol for a bus driver" issue, or even the "no motorcycle riding in the offseason" argument. These people weren't fired because smoking impaired their job performance. They were fired because it *increased* insurance premiums for the employer. Yes, people who smoke have more health issues later in life, but it's not like "I started smoking yesterday and will die tomorrow." CW
-
Does that mean they'll have to fire people who work at McDonalds... Meaning there won't be anybody working at McDonalds... Meaning there will be no fast food? CW

I can't wait for the JP excuses to begin!!
Fezmid replied to kota's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Do you not know how to read quotes??? You said DB can't beat NE beacuse of a "passer's block." I pointed out that he has, in fact, beaten NE. Then you spewed some other crap and now you're accusing me of wanting to keep DB based on that one game?! You're cracked dude. CW
