It didn't flip at all. I smell a fix. In other news: Not THAT is how you return an opening kickoff. CW

Colors are ok; I've never been a fan of the white helmet personally, but I know a lot of people are. It's just the poor road-killed Bufflao... CW -

To me, it looks like the Buffalo on the helmet is dead... CW -
If you want software that automatically backs up your data to separate harddrives, I highly recommend "Second Copy 2000" -- http://www.centered.com. It's cheap (only $29.95), and works extremely well. It can even keep multiple revisions of the same files. I use it to automate my backups to my backup server. CW

I was looking at the Klipsch reference line; was originally going to go all-out with the RF-7/RC-7/RS-7, but now that my wife is in graduate school, I'll probably look at the 35 or 5's. Havn't looked too closely at the Paradigm's yet, as I'm still a few months away from finishing (electrical rough-in is done; next up - insulation!). I'm looking for high-end because I'd like to keep the speakers for 10-20 years if possible. Electronics increase in power/capabilities every few months, but from my understanding a great pair of speakers will last me a long time. CW

I'm getting closer to finishing my basement and want to listen to both Klipsch and Paradigm speakers, as I've heard great things about both. As luck would have it, there's actually a small audio place just down the street from me that is an authorized Paradigm reseller. Gotta get down there to listen to the speakers at some point. Another word of advice about speakers (in addition to the great advice about avoiding Bose); don't get sucked into the hype about speaker wire. You don't need to spend a fortune by buying Monster cable or crap like that. For the most part, wire is wire. Don't buy the hype. CW

That's a very good question... Our CEO recently said you'd be famous if you could find a one-sentance description of what we do as a company. At our core, we're a financial document company; we print prospectus, do SEC filings, etc. We also do other printings (you know those subway cards and stamps? We print one of those, and another company prints the other.) However, we've been growing quite a bit in the past 6 years (when I started, we had about 8 HP-UX servers, now we have about 90 HP-UX and Solaris servers...) So now we do document management for legal firms (ie: company one sues company two, and al of the documents for the case are sent to us; we scan them and put them in a big database for easy OCR searching). We also do stuff with real estate, but I'm not really sure what... There's also thiings like document translations, securities law (ie: paperwork when companies merge), etc. It's pretty broad. CW

I must admit, I do enjoy waking up my boss at 2am when something crashes... It's like petty revenge (If I'm up, you are too!!!). Oh well. Hey, that's me! And yes, it sucks... Luckily, our stuff doesn't go down in the middle of the night very often (maybe once or twice a month). I'm pretty sure at least one development group at my company considers the sysadmins to be computer janitors... But luckily, most of the groups seems to think highly of us. I've never missed a football game I wanted to watch; we've had downtimes that would cut it close to me missing the start of a Bills game (I live about 30 minutes away from work), and I tell everyone, "I don't care if this ds done or not, at 11:20am CST, I'm leaving. I'll work on it again after the game's over." I've never had to walk out unfinished yet, so they probably think I"m just kidding around... CW

And yet you said pretty much the same thing as I did..... Drop 'em off and pick 'em up at specific times. Besides, decisions should be made with logic, not emotions, fears, joys and stresses. That's why I think a non-parents perspective is a useful one - we're more level-headed. CW

http://www.avsforum.com Do some searching in the speaker forums. If you can't find an answer there, then post and you'll get better answers than you probably would here. CW

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not a parent, which means that everyone will probably just dismiss my entire post. But since I'm working on a Saturday night and have nothing better to do than wait for my damn servers to finish patching, I'll tell you anyway Personally, I think parents are way too overprotective. The reason I always hear is, "The world isn't as safe a place as it was when I was a kid." Well you know what, that's a load of hooey. EVERY generation says "things were better back in the day." Hell, I STILL hear people complain about cars, saying that that cars nowadays are made like junk. Excuse me? They're actually much more reliable today than they were 20-30 years ago. But I digress. I was struck by an episode of "All in the Family" I saw a few weeks ago. Michael and Gloria were talking about having kids and Michael goes off on her saying, (paraphrasing) "No way, this world is not a safe place to bring kids into! There's polution, wars, kidnapping, etc, we're not bringing kids into this world!" Sound familar? Personally, I think a lot of the crap you see on TV and read in the papers has been going on forever, but you just never heard about it. With the power of internet, you can read about stuff that you NEVER would've seen before. You think the article about the girls who were sued (and lost) because they tried giving cookies to their neighbor would've made the nightly news? Doubtful. So you hear all this crap and assume things are getting worse. I disagree. How many kids are there in this country? 80,000,000? More? But you hear a few stories in a year and you want to wrap them in bubble-wrap? I'd have no problem sending my 11-12 to the mall or a movie or something for a few hours with her friends. I'd drop her off at the mall and she better be ready to be picked up at a specific time or she'd be grounded for awhile. But kids need to learn independence and not be coddled their entire lives. That's how they become adults. Ok, off my (childlress) soapbox. CW

Just wondering if anyone else is sharing my misery. I was supposed to have downtime on a couple of production servers from 6am-4pm Sunday morning... But Thursday morning they decided to make it 10pm Saturday - 8am Sunday. I'm definately not an evening person, so this really sucks for me... Just wondering if anyone else is miserable right now too? I've made a few posts about this sort of thing in the past week or so. If you backup (and everyone really should), buy a second harddrive and an external USB enclosure and use that for backups. Harddrives are much more stable than the dye in a CD/DVD. I've said the same thing in relation to the DVDs I make -- copy everything to your harddrive, just in case the dye starts to deteriorate. You can never have too many backups of data. And while I'm on the backup kick, you should always have an offsite backup of your data in case your house burns down or something similarlly tragic. Burn copies (or buy an offsite harddrive) that you give to your parents, siblings, etc, or buy a safe-deposit box. CW

It works just fine with Mozilla/Firefox, you just get a notification when you first start. Why? Because I made it with Powerpoint, a M$ product. CW

I don't believe that; why would you physically mark the place when anyone with a laptop can easily find wireless networks on their own? Call me skeptical. CW

:I starred in Brokeback Mountain: Ms. Young http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/02/04/costly.c...s.ap/index.html The part I find amusing: "Wanita Renea Young, 49, said she was at her rural home south of Durango around 10:30 p.m. when she said saw "shadowy figures" outside the house banging repeatedly on her door. She yelled, "Who's there?" but no one answered, and the figures ran away." followed up with: "The teenagers' families offered to pay Young's medical bills, but she declined and sued, saying their apologies were not sincere and were not offered in person." The parents probably didn't want to knock on her door and send her to tthe damn hospital again. Again, :I starred in Brokeback Mountain: Wanita Young. CW

I have no idea what tagging is. However, if you're properly secured, you shouldn't have a problem. Does your friend have a hardware firewall/NAT router? If not, have him buy one. Frankly, a hardware fireewall will protect you from 95% of the threats. The only other things to worry about are downloading attachments (use anti-virus to protect) or browser exploits (use Mozilla, Firefox, or Opera to avoid). Keeping Windows systems secure (for a home) isn't really as tough as people make it out to be. Your friend should buy the firewall and then reinstall Windows from scratch. It takes an average of 14 minutes from the time a Windows server is put on the Internet until it is exploited if it's not patched - you can't download and install Service Pack 2 in 14 minutes, so the firewall is a must. http://www.fezam.com/security CW

Tagliabue Buffalo or Arizona home game
Fezmid replied to millbank's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Preseason is fine. Regular season? That'd not only hurt the city of Buffalo financially, but would be a major detriment to our playoff chances IMHO. That said, I don't see the NFL moving regular season games. Ralph already generally plays 1 home preseason game and 3 road games; I wouldn't be surprised to see two "home" preseason games this year, one of them being Toronto. That actually makes sense from the regionalization of the team. CW
