  1. The belly button that people can point to?! I've never heard that phrase before and not sure what it means.
  2. Thanks for increasing my insurance premiums, appreciate it. (although realistically, they probably could've had THEIR insurance pay it, which indirectly impacts everyone anyway, so... I guess that's just the way of the world...)
  3. So too sick to talk to the mother or the police, but you can drive to get new glass...? Seems to me that you're lost your window of opportunity.
  4. Everyone knows that unicorns don't fly... That's a job for a Pegasus!
  5. Wait wait wait... Am I the only one who noticed that the article shows two of the three deadliest school shootings were NOT in the US, but were rather in places that (supposedly) have stricter gun regulations...?? "The Sandy Hook massacre brought back such horribly vivid memories for me of Dunblane, the worst mass shooting in Britain in my lifetime." Dublane: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunblane_school_massacre "Along with the 1987 Hungerford massacre and the 2010 Cumbria shootings, it remains one of the deadliest criminal acts involving firearms in the history of the United Kingdom." And, shockingly, the killer did all of that with four handguns and not a single rifle. Who would've thought that?! Also, this part made me chuckle: "To me, this is a warped, twisted logic that bears no statistical analysis and makes no sense. Do you fight drug addiction with more cocaine?" Yes, Piers, in some cases you actually do. Ever hear of methadone? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methadone Whatever.
  6. Say what you want about Bachmann, but she's much better than the liberal media portrays. For example, she was key in getting the bridge over the St. Croix river green-lit (connecting Minnesota to Wisconsin). http://www.startribune.com/opinion/editorials/138084528.html?refer=y&vi_adid=W It's funny reading a left publication though: http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2012/09/new-bachmann-ads-blast-stimulus-while-touting-stimulus-projects "Bachmann's signature legislative accomplishment, which is likewise touted in the ad, is the congressional authorization of a new bridge connecting her hometown of Stillwater to Houlton, Wisconsin, pop. 386. (Critics have compared the proposed bridge to the infamous "Bridge to Nowhere," noting that Stillwater and Houlton are already connected by a bridge, and there's an interstate bridge 10 minutes south.)" Yeah, I-94 is 10 minutes to the south, and gets REALLY congested when the Stillwater lift bridge (which is ancient and ready to fall down) is closed for repairs - which is constantly. Plus, downtown Hudson, WI (which is where I-94 connects to) is pretty much non-driveable when everyone's is driving down it to get north (one lane, each direction). You may not agree with her soundbites, but she DOES do a good job pushing things through that help her constituents by never giving up.
  7. Yeah, because the Bills would never spend $100M on the top player in free agency.
  8. I'm actually more shocked about everyone saying "just make insurance pay for it." Why should insurance cover it when the kids are at fault? That just increases everyone's premiums. Take responsibility. (I'm not saying you don't agree with it - just pointing out what part of the thread I was shocked at).
  9. Like others said - call the police. They'll come out and talk to the neighbors for you. That said, if you're friendly with the neighbors, then talk to the mom. I'd also take pictures - just in case.
  10. Does someone who isn't an American citizen receive constitutional protections? Serious question, I don't know the answer. Answered the question myself: Sounds like they do. http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/rightsandfreedoms/a/illegalrights.htm
  11. You used the word extra, not me. The team signed a lease to stay in WNY. If they hadn't, they could've moved so that WAS an alternative. Now you have to compare the the tax revenue for the next seven years to the amount WNY is paying over that same time period. New York taxes income at roughly 9%. The Bills have a payroll of roughly $79M. So in one year, that's roughly $7M in tax revenue and over seven years, is roughly $50M (or higher, as salaries continue to rise). (I know that's not an exact number -- they only pay taxes to NY on the home games, but opponents pay taxes on games in WNY, so we'll call it a wash). http://www.sportscity.com/nfl/salaries/buffalo-bills-salaries/ That doesn't count the extra property tax revenue from players who live here, sales tax revenue from players who shop here, hotel taxes from visiting players, etc, etc, etc. Plus, I'm not sure who gets parking and concession revenues - I'm sure the Bills get some, but probably not 100%; anyone know? On top of that, there are other part time and full time jobs to support the stadium, concession stands, restaurants, parking attendants, etc, around the area. I remember reading about financial hardships people had the last time the NHL had a lockout because nobody was going to the stadium. All of those people who are working are also paying taxes. I have no idea if it's a net zero proposition in our case, but it's hardly "fleecing" the city/state. Honestly, I think most people would see it as a pretty good deal. (I know people in MN do).
  12. Team moves to [Toronto|Los Angeles|London|Wherever], county/city/state receive no more tax revenue... Seems pretty straight forward to me. If the team was building a billion dollar stadium (like they're doing in Minnesota), and the taxpayers were on the hook for $800+M (like they're doing in Minnesota), then I'd agree that you'll never make that money up in tax revenue. But a "paltry" $150M over seven years? Shouldn't be a big deal I wouldn't think.
  13. Have any facts/links/research to back that up with? Seriously.
  14. The deal is FAR cheaper than most. And the tax revenue will more than make up for the "paltry" amount the city/state have to pay. The team could've demanded a new stadium like other teams are doing - but they didn't.
  15. Why wouldn't Spiller deserve to go? Who deserves it more? ESPN had an article where they picked him as the top RB in the AFC (and second in the NFL behind AP).
  16. I want a 2013 Charger, but am really worried about reliability. Was the transmission issue under warranty?
  17. Exactly, think of the children!!!
  18. Yeah, I know -- only ~13k/year. But that's still pretty good I think! Wife has an '04 Corolla with ~230,000 miles on it. She drives a lot more and we usually use her car for cross country trips. She was rear-ended last week, so we'll probably take the money (once she gets an estimate on damage) and put it towards a new car at this point.
  19. Not seven whole years! (I'm at 13.5 and ~175,000 miles, but am too cheap to buy a new one. )
  20. The Verge is just assuming intent, but you can't do that - you have to go with what it really says. And it's still bad.
  21. Yes, it's the same as a ranch house, but I don't think it's slang. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranch-style_house
  22. Really? Why not?
  23. Dropbox did the same thing last year which, IMHO, is even scarier than pictures. http://www.neowin.net/news/dropbox-legally-owns-all-of-your-files
  24. More details of the incident. Judge lowered bail. http://www.startribune.com/local/east/183841961.html
