There Goes My Plan for Early Retirement!
Fezmid replied to Stl Bills's topic in Off the Wall Archives
You're joking, and I'm just missing the sarcasm online, right...? -
Just a little LAMP post. A couple of weeks ago, I was given a press pass for the Minnesota Swarm game. That allowed me to be on the field during warmups, before the game started and before the gates to the arena were opened. (they play at the Xcel Energy Center, same arena that the Wild play in). Here's some of the shots I took: http://500px.com/fezmid Or (same photos, presented a different way): http://fezmid.500px.com/ I kinda like this one (although I should do some post-processing on it to remove the grain from the ISO): http://fezmid.500px.com/swarm/photo/21 I've also received a lot of compliments on this one: http://fezmid.500px.com/swarm/photo/7 Anyway, just wanted to share. EDIT: FYI, for those who aren't paying attention, the Swarm beat the league leading Toronto Rock in the first round of the playoffs last weekend, and are playing Rochester (best defense in the league, defending champions) this Saturday at 7pm ET, televised nationally on CBS Sports.

Funny article in the Strib -- Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton was heckled at an open forum when he started campaigning for raises for lawmakers: http://www.startribune.com/politics/statelocal/205387651.html That's fine, but his quote about the incident is the best: "It was rude and if they can’t handle the truth, they can’t handle the truth, but that’s the truth as I perceived it," Dayton said. The truth... as I perceived it. Nice.

I could probably do that with my dog. We have him trained pretty well. I can drop a piece of bacon right in front of him, tell him to "leave it," and he (very reluctantly) won't touch it.

These are pretty cool - I hadn't seen them before. Carrie Fischer was making out with everyone - Luke, Han, Chewy, C3-PO, the list goes on! Chewy cops a feel at one point too. http://imgur.com/a/HGtG0

Yeah, we did - aren't you reading the thread at all?! http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/157846-darick-rogers/page__st__140#entry2797675 I think it's more the fact that we have only one established receiver on the roster. The Bills give him the best chance to make the roster compared to other teams. Of course with all of the other receivers we drafted, who knows.

Nice, thanks for the link. Cordarrelle Patterson said he's looking forward to playing against Gilmore the most. Did they go to school together or play against each other in college? Just thought it was a weird statement.

Board was down. -
If the Jets really wanted Austin, they could've offered us a couple of first rounders to move up a pick.

Former NFL Player, Myron Rolle, A Disgrace to the Game
Fezmid replied to Jauronimo's topic in Off the Wall Archives
"Rolle is retiring from football so that he can go to medical school. When was the last time you remember a pro athlete making that choice?" Robert Smith from the Vikings... -
I actually agree with the sentiment -- one tragedy shouldn't mean a complete re-write of laws. In this case, the administration is using the victims to try and push their own anti-2nd amendment agenda through by playing the sympathy card. That said, he probably shouldn't have said that last sentence as it dilutes what I think he's trying to say. http://www.startribune.com/entertainment/tv/204097941.html

Did you know that FICO (the company that makes your credit score) helps make the NFL schedule as well? http://www.fico.com/en/FIResourcesLibrary/NFL_Success_2495CS.pdf

Have you ever worn Bills gear to an away game?
Fezmid replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've worn Bills stuff to a couple of Bills/Vikings games, as well as a Bills/Packers game. At the Packers game, I actually ended up sitting next to another Bills fan - what are the odds?! The fans were very respectful in Green Bay and we had some great conversations (I'd ask about players on their team, they'd ask about the Bills). The Metrodome is a different story - a few jerks up in the upper deck, but nothing directed at me. I also wear an old-school Sabres jersey when they play the Wild. Never an issue. -
NFL and taxes - I never knew this
Fezmid replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This isn't really news. I live in one state and work in another -- all of the salary I earn at my full time job is taxed in the state I work in. I get a credit for taxes paid and can apply it to the state I live in (to help offset capital gains, interest, etc). It's annoying having to fill in multiple returns though. -
President Obama Proposes Cap On Retirement Savings
Fezmid replied to TakeYouToTasker's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Yes, it's new. It's based on the total VALUE of your investment accounts, not by your CONTRIBUTIONS. According to the article, anyway. -

It does not give a max on how much you can put into a deferred account. It gives a max to how much you cann HAVE in your accounts. From the article: "So Mr. Obama proposes to "limit an individual's total balance across tax-preferred accounts to an amount sufficient to finance an annuity of not more than $205,000 per year in retirement, or about $3 million for someone retiring in 2013." Balance, not contribution. So if I invest $1, and it somehow turns into $3M after 5 years, I can no longer invest any more money into my retirement. And what happens to funds over $3M? Who knows... So (again, based on the article, I haven't read any of the official budget proposal) that means the government needs to monitor your retirement accounts to know if you're at the $3M level or not because it's BALANCE, not CONTRIBUTION. -

So you're ok with the government knowing exactly how much money, to the penny, you have at any point in time, and being able to legally look at that data whenever they want? Because that's what has to happen to keep track of this cap. -

Again, all of the things you list hit EARNINGS, not SAVINGS. The government has no right looking in my investment accounts to see if I've saved "enough." They can cap how much I can put in a 401(k) per year or how much I can put in a Roth IRA or whatever, but they shouldn't be allowed to say, "You've saved enough over the past 20 years, you don't need any more money now." -

Which seems to the MO -- if it doesn't impact a majority, then we can go ahead and do it because there aren't as many people to complain. Putting aside the ridiculousness of having a cap on the amount of money you can have IN a retirement account (not how much you can CONTRIBUTE, which are two totally different things), why does Uncle Sam have a right to know exactly how much money everyone has in their portfolio at any point in time? Maybe I'm being naive in thinking that they don't have that access now, but if they do - they shouldn't. -
When the refs screw up and don't call a penalty on the Pats*, can we call CBS to have them review? That'd be sweet.

When my wife was in the hospital years ago, I was told I couldn't stay there after a certain time. The nurse told me to go home. I really didn't want to (home was a good 35 miles away), so tried to convince her to let me stay. After some back and forth, we reached a compromise where she gave me a keycode to some private doctor/nurse lounge, gave me a couple of pillows and a blanket, and said I could sleep in there and come back at 6am. That's what I was thinking when reading this story; it's a non-issue.
