Trust me, i take whatever King says with a grain of salt; the guy mails it in IMO. And how do some of you figure there was no competition? What i and others were getting at was that the others in camp (brohm especially) didn't take advantage of the competition and press Edwards for the job. Throughout the camp and preseason games Edwards was the best guy. I was just hoping for a closer "competition."

Edwards certainly rose up an earned the job, just surprised (disappointed?) the others didn't really come close to challenging him. @Gugny...Oh the Leinart threads have already started my friend. God help us all.

A bit unexpected - I was hoping Brohm would make a stronger push for the job but Edwards certainly did enough to fight him off. I guess we're keeping 3 and Levi gets PS'ed.

He does have a way to go and is probably still fine tuning his play at guard, but he made the all-rookie team last year and was solid in his 1st year.

It works both ways. The OP was lauding Clausen after his first preseason appearance, which was mediocre at best btw. I think some were just pointing out his 2nd appearance was dog**** and cursing the front office for not taking the kid already is just asinine. No shortage of Notre Dame fanboys on this board.

The salary situation isn't necessarily a bad thing or evidence of RW's frugality. Overpaying for players, especially ones that don't deserve the money (e.g. Haynesworth in WA, Dockery here in '07) isn't a good thing. 25th in payroll for a 6-10 team? Seems about right to me.
