Bagging the 3-4 Altogether?
Zulu Cthulhu replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
KW could play 3-4 DE nicely. He's shown playing nose tackle this year that his althleticism makes up for the perceived lack of size. -
Bills vs Browns Snow Bowl part 2 this sunday!
Zulu Cthulhu replied to buffalo_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ugh i was at the blizzard game in cleveland in 2007. Snowing so bad we could barely make out the players on the field. -
my new first 4 round mock
Zulu Cthulhu replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No offense, but says who? You? Sorry but i am unconvinced. I have yet to come across a scouting report listing him as a top 10 pick. I see many calling constanzo a 15-32 pick. I would link but i am posting from my phone. He is very strong and smart, but his speed is borderline for a nfl left tackle. Believe me, as a BC alum myself i am rooting for the kid. It is also extremely early - he could shoot up draft boards based on his combine performance and interviews. But right now, he would be a reach for the Bills in the first round. -
my new first 4 round mock

There's nothing wrong with drafting offensive line, but there's no justification taking Costanzo that high. The Bills will have a top 5 pick, and taking him there would be 20-25 picks too early. -
Very very good work steampunk. Hard to find that kind of reasoned analysis around here these days. I was on the fence with Whitner, but you convinced me.

Draft BC's LT Costanzo
Zulu Cthulhu replied to BuffaloBillsMagic1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Costanzo is a good prospect in a very weak OT class. It wouldn't make much sense taking him with such a high 1st round pick. There's way too many good defensive line/OLB prospects this year to pass all of them up for a OT. The AJ Green idea may seem crazy to some, but he is the best wideout prospect in quite some time. Walter football lists him as the best since Calvin Johnson (and megatron was the best since Randy Moss). Given Gailey and Nix's draft history, it wouldn't surpise me if they took him. -
It seems Poz gets caught in coverage and taken advantage of at least once a week, but overall I agree with the OP and he should be resigned. I agree with Florence as well, Whitner: still on the fence about him - I just don't know how much better he is than his backups.

Nah Jauron isn't around anymore

I am assuming (and it may be a hopeful assumption) that gailey and his defensive staff will figure out what kind of defense they are going to install and teach next year. This year's experiment with the 3-4 was a colossal failure. If the team really wants to stick with it, then they are pretty much committed to drafting quinn with their 1st pick, and going defense for at least 4 more picks after that. Quinn looks like the legit hybrid DE/OLB of this year's draft. Sorta like Orakpo last year : (

You're doing it wrong. Sarcasm works best when it's subtle.

What message is the league office sending?
Zulu Cthulhu replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What message? That dirty players who throw cheap shots and taunt sometimes get what's coming to them? I think that's a great message for my kids. Don't be so naive. I think most kids have at least a vague awareness of what a fistfight looks like. -
Sabres may be for sale- per ESPN
Zulu Cthulhu replied to RocBillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Too early to tell this is really going to happen, but if you could picture the perfect owner in your mind, this guy would be it. Tons of money, passionate about hockey, ties to the local area. Now we just need to find a new owner for the football team... -
What message is the league office sending?

Great point. If the discipline policy's stated purpose is player safety, i think it's pretty clear which action has more potential to cause serious injury. Andre may be a big tough guy, but he's no boxer and probably doesn't know how to throw a punch that would cause serious harm. The Seymour pimp slap was similarly harmless. -
What message is the league office sending?
Zulu Cthulhu replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is a fine schedule that the league follows for on field infractions, so the union can't turn around and say fines from the league are completely arbitrary. Harrison is fined so much because he is a chronic offender and has moved up that schedule. Commissioner is just following his previous precedent with these two players. So calm down children there is no conspiracy. -
I agree kelsay should be used this way, although i'm still not sure he'd be worth the money. Most of the time, teams use their best rusher at RDE, since the QB can't see them coming. That's why LTs are more highly paid than RTs. Their jobs are more important and they usually are playing against an opponent's best rusher. Schobel was our rush end until his retirement. While some teams with elite defensive ends move them all over the formation, usually teams try to rush the qb from the blindside. Otherwise, like meathead said, the DEs responsibility is containment. Kelsay did this pretty well opposite schobel and has shown good containment the last few games when the Bills moved to more 4-3 sets. I've never attacked kelsay for not gathering a bunch of sacks - that's never really been his job. But i really don't understand what Kelsay's job is going to be going forward, if the Bills are going to continue to convert to the 3-4. I don't think they've scrapped the transition althogether. After this year, when the team acquires more players that fit Edwards' scheme, how often is kelsay going to play? He can't play OLB in a 3-4 (or DE in the 3-4, meathead, he was never a candidate for that position so i don't even know why you would suggest that.)

Both are deserving for sure. I've given up trying to figure out HoF voting. I've heard peter king attempt to describe how these powertripping writers debate during the process and it sounded like a complete cluster****.

Hilarious rant. Great use of 28 pt. font. Question - since when does the right DE go against weaker tackles? The RDE plays opposite left tackles, usually the stronger OT of the two since they protect righty QBs' blindsides. Please correct me judge meathead with more of your "facts", as i was blown away by your last batch.

+1 i completely agree with all of this. My comment on stroud wasn't in his defense, i just brought him up as another who was playing out of position earlier in the year and sucking as loudly as kelsay. But why does kelsay get absolved by many here after two weeks of showing up, while stroud's marginal improvement is overlooked?
-
Thanks '86 and sorry for responding so snidely. The unabashed kelsay love rubs me (and others on here) the wrong way. I can't "show love" to CK just because he isn't playing so horribly anymore. He transitioned from bad linebacker to mediocre defensive end, that is all. But defenders are right - he did play decent a lot yesterday. But that 3rd and long play was pivotal, and he missed ben. Marcus Stroud has been roundly heckled here week after week too, but he had the same # of tackles and sacks as kelsay had yesterday. I don't see any "show stroud some love" threads yet.

Reality would be nice. Not spinning someone's opinion into oblivion would also be nice. Assuming things that were never said and attributing them to someone else - it would also be nice if we stopped that, right '86? I only said kelsay's form was bad on that particular play. He was out there pretty much all day because he was playing better, i said that already. Your wallbash has been duly noted. But you won't find any reality here. This is where you misread my post and then i reply to your scribblings in kind.

Sure as big as he is he's more difficult to tackle than an average sized QB would be, i suppose. But to highlight that fact in this discussion just stinks of excuse-making, in my opinion. Getting to the quarterback is a big part of kelsay's duties on the field, isn't it? He's proven to be useless as a 34 OLB. End rusher is his game and he's much better at it than he was as a linebacker. So kelsay doesn't make that sack on that down. Maybe big ben is that elusive. But watching that play live yesterday, kelsay didn't even disrupt roethlisberger; he used poor form and spun off him. Bad play, period
-
Alright biz clearly big ben is impossible to sack. Which is how kelsay was able to get him down later in the game. And carrington was able to as well. Make excuses for him. Fact is that yes, there are more than 3 plays in any game. But some plays are more important than others. Stevie's drop play was a big one. 3rd and 16 in a tie game late in the 4th was another. Kelsay whiffed - he didn't even slow ben down. As waa already said kelsay does get credit for even being in position to make that play he failed to make - obviously he's getting blocked 15 yards downfield less these days.
-
It's not fair to compare kelsay to bruce, because kelsay couldn't carry bruce's jock. Which is sort of the point - kelsay's just not very good, and "well, he played well for what he is" isn't a very convincing argument for keeping him on a below average defensive line for the next 3-4 years.
-
Becoming like clockwork at this point : ) He played better again lining up in the DE spot, but as others have pointed out, his tackling was lacking. Egregiously so on the big ben sack whiff. I know you reflexively make excuses for kelsay, but "big ben is tough to take down" isn't even a good one. We aren't talking about a 180 lb defensive back getting shedded by ben on a blitz - kelsay's a defensive lineman for god's sake. He shouldn't be bouncing off any qb like a pinball on a 3rd and long play. I give credit to kelsay for just getting in position to make that play, but he failed and ben's scramble set up the late field goal that gave pitt the lead. If people are going to scream at stevie "you gotta make that catch!", then those same people should be telling chris "you gotta make that tackle!" Btich all u want, but be consistent.
