What happened to the slant, wr screen, having Evans go over the middle on a short third down, play action? Why can't more receivers play like Welker? Is it really that hard to throw a 2 yard pass on third down, or scramble for the first down?

QUOTE (AnthonyF @ Nov 12 2008, 07:35 AM) * I've watched plenty of OC's call a shotgun in 3rd and 1's and 2's (New England did vs. us) and are generally very successful. It should be easier to convert passing then running imo. There are a number of options and formations and movement that should make it easy.... While the play calling is bad, it has been Trent's decision making from the shotgun has been questionable abyssmal. Fixed Funny Chicken or the egg..... If a Trent fan, nothing is his fault and it is all the OC or after affects of the concussion..... I equally blame Trent & OC.....

Love it..... Sounds so familiar.... Never the Qb's fault.... Actually Edwards had pretty good protection Sunday. He played bad plain and simple..... Coaching staff called a lousy game too, so no it was not all Edwards fault....

2 Bad throws????? Take off the rose colored glasses.... He was terrible, bad throws, bad decisions, bad field management and we had the ball in good field position today. But as with JP the coaching staff did not help him....

Key Plays by the Men in Black and White
AnthonyF replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The onside kick while too little too late had me shaking my head...... The Bills are awarded the ball, somehow they then change their mind and there is not even a booth review in the last 2 minutes..... Almost unheard of.... offensive line holding too??? That said we lost the game and frankly did not deserve a win, but fishy nonetheless.... -
Isn't that what I said???? I'm sure Jauron would have had a better play call.... Like the third and goal from the 2 with Lynch today
-
Look you can defend him all you want and blame it on the run game, but today he was just awful. He did have time to throw and he made some terrible reads, bad passes and lacked any sense about what to do. However here's a bone..... The coaching was lousy, right on par with that I used to complain when JP was QB..... Back to the chicken vs. the egg argument.... Is it Trent, JP or the coaches to blame. Need I say I expect/demand 300 yards vs. Cleveland.....
-
You are playing a better team and you have a chance to win the game from the 2 yard line, vs. kicking the point, still leaving time on the clock 25 seconds for SD to try and win or hoping for the luck in OT...... Great call, bad result.....
-
Actually I go back to screwing up the Johnson/Flutie debacle and the Tennesse game where RJ was pathetic..... As for Edwards I just am not happy with his play recently and have always thought the raves he has drawn from many has been ridiculously over the top. I want an open offense, multiple looks, some innovative play calling and see if Edwards is the QB of the future. Schopp and the Bulldog just referred to it as a "slump"..... I am not so sure....
-
Actually we did have an opportunity today and Edwards did have time. Threw lousy passes, showed no leadership, made no audibles, when the announcers noted they were there and basically accomplished nothing. He was the MVP 3 weeks ago I thought. Plenty wrong today, but Edwards was at the top of the crap pile......
-
Off target, bad decisions, no long attempts at all and 120 yards passing. Good field position and did absolutely nothing. Can also blaim the coaches for calling 3 run plays on first and goal.....

When will Trent throw for 300.....
AnthonyF replied to AnthonyF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But Aaron only played basically a half of football in those three years.... As for enjoying rushing and defense.... To each his own... We have a good (maybe very good QB), good RB and Evans as a go to receiver. I want that breakout game. I admit I was very leery after people went on and on about Edwards game vs. San Diego and the comeback vs. Oakland. Nice games, but not as good as some stated.... -

All the power to the Titans..... They are winning and undefeated. Great Defense yada yada yada..... Are they fun to watch? Not really.... Excuse me for liking offense and expecting some from the team. Our defense is not going to carry us. The best we can expect is that they play okay to above average. We have a QB, whom many have been quick to anoint and I too am happy with his play. Now however I want to see the next level, which is 300 + 2-3 td's a game. BTW We have now seen Quinn look good in his debut, Matt Ryan look more then competent, Aaron Rodgers an Philip Rivers too (all QB's with virtually zero NFL experience before they got a start), so yes I have high expectations and goals for Edwards. -

Yes I want stats, which are a good indication of the skill level. Should I check your old posts and guess you have called Trent the greatest QB in Football???? I want a track meet from our team and qb..... If we can't do that vs. Denver & Cleveland there are more questions to be answered. -

='Thoner7' date='Nov 7 2008, 04:44 PM' post='1203508'] There is no need to throw for that many yards unless you are down. Our D has never put us in a situation to need to throw for that many yards. Also our running game, if better, would help keep us on the field longer. Additionally we rarely take shots down field, probably because we cannot get an 8th man in the box with our lackluster run game. You need to complete a lot of 5 yard passes to throw for over 300... Excuse me.... Are we 8-0??? We have been down and in almost every game. New Orleans have not had to be down for Brees to throw for 300 yards. Was New England and Tom Brady down when he was throwing for 300????? Always an excuse.... EASY SCHEDULE ACCORDING TO WHAT? Terrible Pass Defenses..... BTW people were gaga over Edwards vs. San Diego, a defense that has since canned Ted Cottrell where every QB this year (except Matt Cassell) has looked like Tom Brady/Joe Montana. -

Sorry I want to see a 300 yard game, 2-3 td's and a convincing 4 quarter win. Considering that 2 weeks ago people were annointing him the second coming, mid-season MVP, talking extension and so on and so on..... Let's see a real breakout game. So tired of the crap always about as long as it is a W and we have a balanced attack. Got news for you, if football was that boring 70% of your audience would tune out regardless of the # of wins. -
Hate to belabour the point (maybe not), but after seeing Cutler throw for 440 and Quinn in his debut for 250, I want that breakout game. Considering easy opponents with lousy pass defenses coming up, I want to see 4 300 yard games, which is not this statistical anomaly people seem to think.... Cleveland, Denver, SF, KC all should be torched..... Miami in Toronto too and revenge vs. NYJ???
-
Can I say it looked almost identical to Edward's first game vs. NYJ last year? Good presence, check down receivers and short completions against a terrible team at home. It was the perfect place to start him. Heck if they didn't start him, Anderson would have probably had similar #'s and he'd still be in. Problem is we have been easily dinked and dunked on for 3 + years now. Until we start asserting ourselves on D everyone will look good....

Something being lost in the shuffle with the offense...
AnthonyF replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Our problem is we are moving the ball but not throwing it to the endzone at all.... Evans made a nice catch as did Hardy and Fine was wide open last week. Otherwise we seldom even try and throw to the end zone. The int for a TD was a classic example of the Bill's bad playcalling and decision making. Why on a third and goal we make a throw that has no chance of resulting in a TD is typical of the Bills. Throw it to the endzone for a change. Yes the Bills are moving the ball regardless of the lack of running, however they are still not using some of the skill players they have, with no slants, quick hits to RB's out of the backfield or WR screens (1 last week). -
Actually it was very smart....... Denver has one of the worst D's in the league. Allow Anderson to QB and a good game and Quinn is anchored to the bench again. This is the perfect place to start Quinn and I expect he'll look good like everyone does against Denver (except Russell). Much like everyone completing 70% vs. Buffalo and San Diego.
-
I thought he was much closer to the line and agreed that he had more time to throw and seem to decide to throw it away for no reason.
-
He threw it away and that is what bothered me and he was almost at the line when he did it. I'd like to see a replay too or confirm what I saw.....
-
Saw that too..... Also thought he made it on 4th down. In any case the third down play is what bothered me the most as Edwards threw the ball away for no reason, when he was almost at the line of scrimmage and easily could have picked up the first down. He threw the ball away.... It was not an attempted completion.
-
Missing the point that Trent had an easy first down if he ran when no one was open, so it was a good call..... What he did was just throw it away when he had the first down if he ran it.
